Zhou Huaijin looked at Gu Yunxuan. “I heard that you used to serve at Jiayu Pass?”
Gu Yunxuan had been quite restrained while sitting next to Lord Huai. After all, he only got to speak with minor generals back at Jiayu Pass.
Hearing that Lord Huai mentioned about him serving at Jiayu Pass before, he had his eyes widen in disbelief – he just could not believe that Lord Huai knew about him!

She had only mentioned a little bit about the Gu Mansion when she was with Zhou Huaijin. Unexpectedly, he remembered everything, even the minor trivialities. That warmed up her heart completely.
“Yes, Madame Gu dispatched us two to Jiayu Pass. A couple of months earlier, father brought us back saying that there is a lot to be done here.” Gu Yunxuan answered honestly, sounding a little bitter.
Zhou Huaijin nodded. Judging from his behavior, he could tell that this little brother was not having a wonderful time here at home.
Normally, civilians did not care about the rank of children, but people born in mansions did. Children born by concubines normally had a difficult time at home, but that was only because the concubine did not have a strong family background. The Gu Mansion was different, however. Apart from Madame Gu, no one else in the mansion had any manners, especially Gu Zhenkang.
Gu Yunxuan must have been living a more difficult life than the children born by concubines from other ordinary families.

“I may not be able to dispatch you back to Jiayu Pass, but I can offer you a small position at the Military Department, difficult and unimportant, are you willing to do that?” Zhou Huaijin asked.
“Yes I am!” Gu Yunxuan answered without consideration.
For him that would be an extremely important opportunity. He did not need something amazing.
He could just make efforts to go higher and higher, even if he started from the bottom.
Zhou Huaijin nodded, looked at Gu Chaoyan who nodded back. Zhou Huaijin and she had the same idea – the Second Brother needed an opportunity. Gu Chaoyan had intended to mention this to Zhou Huaijin who could possibly help him to go to Jiayu Pass, but now it seemed nice for him to start from the Military Department.
Zhou Huaijin looked at Gu Yunxuan. He was most suitable to stay at the military, because Zhou Huaijin believed that a steady and intelligent general like Second Brother was also needed there.
However, since Chaoyan liked her Second Brother so much, it meant that Gu Yunxuan was going to help Chaoyan in the future.
So Gu Yunxuan could just be Chaoyan’s representative in her mother’s family.
He did not want Gu Yunxuan to go back to Jiayu Pass, only because Jiayu Pass was way too far for Gu Yunxuan to help Chaoyan in the future – that was the selfish side of his.
However, if Gu Yunxuan could stand out in the Military Department, he would still be able to serve at Jiayu Pass. At that time, he would be going there as a general, not as a soldier.
Zhou Huaijin sipped some tea.
The front yard started to become bustling.
“Lord Ling is here. I am going to check if there is anything I can do.” Gu Yunxuan said as he looked out at the front yard.
“No need.” Zhou Huaijin said directly.
He had never seen a Young Master going out to do errands when a wedding took place at the mansion.
As the drums and trumps started, Zhou Huailing came in with a red robe. He was showing a very fake smile on his face.
