72 Chapter 72: Enslaving Crows
“Finally, some crows!” Rezen said happily after finally encountering crow-type magic beasts
There were around ten of them around Rezen but the weird thing was that even though they can see him, the crows were not attacking
It’s not like every magic beast would attack everyone on sight but still, most of them do that
However, not only were the crows not attacking Rezen, they even seem to think that Rezen is the same specie as them
That is all because of the dark aura surrounding Rezen
The 3rd fusion spell of the Crow-type [Crow’s Aura]. It’s a spell that changes the user’s aura to be the same as crows
The higher the grade of this spell, the harder it is to notice that the user was actually not a crow
Of course, this is only for the magic beasts with low intelligence since the [Crow’s Aura] doesn’t really change the mage’s body to that of a crow
No matter how much Rezen gives off the feeling that he is a crow if he doesn’t look like one, who would believe that he is one?
Fortunately, all the crows that Rezen encountered this time were just 3rd fusion rank magic beasts. If they were a level higher, they would notice that Rezen is not part of their kind
Since his comprehension reached the peak of the 3rd rank, Rezen easily learned spells from the books that Rain and Florine provided to him
Rezen waved his hand and a handful of Spring Almonds appeared on top of his palm
The almonds immediately attracted the attention of the crows and Rezen threw the almonds on the ground
The crows immediately flapped their wings as they fought to eat as many Spring Almonds as they can
This particular type of Crows is called Nightmare Crows. They have a strong sense of collectiveness against foreign enemies but in the face of benefits, they wouldn’t hesitate to turn on each other
Rezen grinned as he approached one of the Nightmare Crows. His crow and soul-type gem floated in front of him as he created magic circles
One magic circle was purplish black in color which was the crow-type and the other was purple which was the soul-type
The two kinds of magic worked together to let Rezen cast his spell
“[Crow Enslavement]” Rezen muttered as he had his spell land on the crow
That crow instantly turned its head towards him as it cried out, trying to resist the spell’s effect
That crow’s cries attracted the attention of the other crows and all their gaze turned on the two
In return, Rezen waved his hand again as he threw another handful of Spring Almonds
Instantly, the selfish Nightmare Crows ignored their kind that was crying to eat the almonds
These crows knew instinctively that the Spring Almonds were good stuff. The almonds can increase their talent and the chances of reaching a higher rank would rise
Why would they care about one of their kind when they have such good stuff in front of them?
Rezen’s soul was hit by the crow’s resistance and he gritted his teeth. The process of enslaving magic beasts can range from easy to life-threatening
If the crow was a magic beast at ungraded rank, Rezen only needed a little bit of time and effort
However, the crow that he was targeting is at the same rank as him and only his crow-type gem was at the 3rd rank
The crow-type gem is merely a complimentary gem that would make it easier to enslave crow-type magic beasts
The main factor was still the soul-type gem and also the strength of Rezen’s soul
Since he was still lacking in the gem department, it should be almost impossible for him to enslave a crow at the 3rd rank but Rezen has his cheat
While Rezen and the crow’s souls clashed, the former suddenly swallowed something and it was none other than his recovery pill!
The enslavement process involves the soul and would even injure it at times. If the mage’s soul cannot hold on, they would either get their souls destroyed and die or they would stop the enslavement process and fail. Not only would their souls be injured, but they would also fail to enslave a magic beast that would want to kill them out of anger
“This still hurts!” Rezen said through gritted teeth. While the pain in his soul would instantly vanish after taking a recovery pill, it still hurts to get one’s soul injured
Not to mention, this wouldn’t happen only once since Rezen’s gem is lacking
Cold sweat formed all over his body. His face would pale after receiving a soul injury but would turn rosy pink again as soon as he consumed a recovery pill
It was a continuous cycle. After all, even if the mage has a soul and gems at the peak of their rank, it was still not easy to enslave a magic beast at their rank. What more for Rezen that lacks in the gem department?
Finally, after minutes of grinding, Rezen finished enslaving a crow
“T-this wouldn’t do… although this is a good chance to increase my pain tolerance but the pain on the soul is just different…” Rezen muttered
Perhaps, if it was physical pain, he could endure it better. However, the most painful type of pain has always been the one related to the soul
Rezen is still just growing, he still lacks experience. To ask him to constantly injure his soul several times just to tame one magic beast… he might still break down mentally
The crow that Rezen enslaved from resisting turned affectionate. It landed on top of Rezen’s shoulder and rub its head on his cheek
“Little bastard, acting coy now as if you didn’t make me almost desire death” Rezen scolded while lightly hitting the crow’s cheek with a finger
As if the crow can understand what he said, it lowered its head sadly causing Rezen to chuckle before he stared at the other crows
What should he do…
“Hmm?”
Rezen suddenly thought of an idea as an apple appeared on top of his palm. This is the same apple that he used to knock General Leon unconscious
What if he uses this on these crows? What if they are in a coma? Would that make it easier for Rezen to enslave them?
While thinking of that, Rezen licked his lips and he threw it on the crows
That apple looks and feels the same as other apples but so what? Crows would eat everything they could
The apple might be lacking compared to Spring Almonds but the food is still food and they hurriedly flocked to the apple to eat it
The crow on Rezen’s shoulder wanted to eat with them but he stops it lest it also turned into a sleeping beauty
As soon as the crows took a bite, their bodies instantly stiffened as they lost their consciousness
“Please don’t disappoint me!” Rezen said as he cast his spell again
“[Crow Enslavement!]” Rezen muttered and he targeted one of the nine sleeping crows
To his delight, not even the slightest bit of resistance was offered by that crow!
Even the crow’s automatic response to danger seems to have been turned off!
“Great! Great!” Rezen said happily and he moved forward to enslave the remaining crows
After enslaving them, the crows were still unconscious but Rezen simply fed them with recovery pills and they regained their consciousness
Using a recovery pill along with the Poisoned Apple was Rezen’s trick and gamble against Leon yesterday
The crows soon opened their eyes with a change in personality as they all turn into Rezen’s slaves
The crows all flew around Rezen and he planned on trying a spell together with the crows when his senses picked up the movement of mana
When Rezen raised his head, he saw black dots in the sky
Since the Mountain Range was foggy, the visibility rate was low, making it harder to see things
However, in the sky, the fog was being cleared up or pushed back the more time that passed
“Hmm? Wind Sparrows again? What’s with them? Do they have the trait of fighting each other that I don’t know about?”
Rezen encountered berserk Wind Sparrows yesterday and he encountered another group right now
Is this their racial trait or something?
Although Rezen doesn’t know what is happening, his greed still got the better of him as he runs to the location where the sparrows were fighting
Fortunately, it wasn’t that far from him and his newly acquired ten Nightmare Crows gives him more confidence than before
As long as he doesn’t particularly provoke them to earn their full attention, he should be relatively safe
Rezen had his crows spread to serve as his eyes. With the connection that he has with them, he could know where they are and if he wants to, he could give his location to his crows which were pretty convenient
