Chapter 461: Revelation
Chapter 461: Revelation
The guild master also felt that something was amiss from the beginning; however, when he saw the red-coloured paper crane that was sent by Edmond, he was anxious and worried about Edmond and stopped thinking about it.
Now, when he was warned by Rulf’s intuition, he suppressed his anxiousness and started thinking about the past events that were related to demons.
“I felt the same when I rescued the demon killer mercenary squad members,” the old guild master finally started talking after thinking for a moment before saying,
“One, why did the demons try to move the demon killer mercenary squad members away from the cursed abyss?”
“Two, why did they start the invasion from the middle section of the cursed wilderness?”
“More importantly, why are the demons so careless this time and revealed their presence to some mercenaries in the cursed wilderness which made us issue bonus missions?”
“And last one, why did they want all of our top mercenary captains away from the guild and wanted them to enter the cursed wilderness but not cursed abyss?”
Finally, after saying all the questions in his mind to Rulf, the old guild master took a deep breath and looked into Rulf’s eyes before asking him, “Can you think of why they did any of the questions I asked?”
“That’s right! I have the same questions in my mind but can’t think of any particular reason for their actions,” Rulf had already thought about those questions that the old guild master had asked; however, he shook his head as though he didn’t know the exact reason for their action.
Every time, the demon started the invasion from any one of the human towns and didn’t waste much time before moving to the other towns and cities.
However, now they had chosen the middle-section of the cursed wilderness as their starting point and before that, they even revealed their existence which alerted the mercenary guild.
That, in turn, made many mercenary squads enter the cursed wilderness and even the two top captains, Demon Killer and Blood Rose were sent to clear the demon in the cursed wilderness and cursed abyss.
“That’s right! Now that I think about it, they wanted to destroy my mercenary guild,”
All of a sudden, the guild master thought about some reason and became angry while releasing the powerful aura from his body that even made Rulf shiver for a second before getting used to it.
“Guild master, calm down…calm down. It is not good for your health to become angry,” Rulf hurriedly tried to calm the old guild master while withstanding the huge pressure from the guild master’s body.
The old guild master was only angry for a moment but all the trees around them were destroyed and not even a blade of grass was not seen within a 100 meters of radius around them.
“Phew…,”
When the old guild master was calmed down, Rulf heaved a sigh of relief before angrily looking at his master and started scolding him, “Hey, old man, did you just forget your injuries? And how many times have I said to you not to become angry for every single thing?”
Rulf only scolded the old man because he was worried about him as he knew that the old man in front of him was known for great anger. What’s more, his wounds were still not healed from the fight, he had with the sixth demon king.
“Hey, brat. Who are you calling an old man?” The guild master smacked the back of Rulf’s head before saying, “As for my anger, how can I stay calm when those lowly demons were trying to destroy my guild.”
The mercenary guild was the blood and sweat of the old guild master, who worked very hard for many years and finally got permission from the king of the Zrochester province to build a guild in Goldcrest town.
So, when he thought about the possibility of the demon trying to destroy his mercenary guild, he was unable to control his anger.
“I know that you care about it but there is nothing valuable in the guild building and we can always construct another one if it is destroyed by them,” Rulf said in a serious tone and this was his first time speaking like that to the guild master which made the old man’s face became serious that made Rulf shudder.
When he saw the serious look on the guild master’s face and thought back to the punishments he had received from his childhood and said with a fake laugh, “What I mean to say is, there is no need to open up your injuries that are almost healed because of that.”
“Hmm”
After hearing Rulf’s words, the old guild master thought for a moment and nodded his head as he believed what Rulf said had some truth to it.
‘Phew…finally his face became normal. Otherwise, he would have sealed my cultivation and thrown me into his battle tower,’ When Rulf noticed that the old guild master’s face became normal, he finally heaved a sigh of relief.
“Nevertheless, I will not let them destroy my mercenary guild that easily,” The old guild master didn’t show any anger on his face and said that he would try his best in stopping the demon invasion.
“Yes, sir. I will not even hesitate to die for the mercenary guild,”
Although Rulf looked like he never cared about the mercenary guild, it was his home where he had grown for many years.
All the words he had previously said were for the sake of the old guild master since he was more important to him than a building he had grown.
“Looks like Edmond and his squad has already started fighting the demon army. Let’s go and help them,” The old guild master finally concluded that the demons were after his guild building and since Edmond had already informed him about the demon army, he wanted to go and start killing them before the true demon experts came out of the portal.
Rulf didn’t say anything and only nodded his head and started rushing towards Edmond’s direction.
“By the way, Guild master, why do they want to destroy the guild building? And there is nothing those demons will gain from destroying it, right?” While they were running, Rulf thought of something and asked without slowing down his speed.
Although the guild build was valuable to the old guild master and Rulf, there was nothing valuable in it and those demons would get nothing but just some bricks. So, he asked the guild master to know what was the actual reason behind it.
“They are testing,” The old man scoffed at the demons’ plan of destroying the mercenary guild and replied to Rulf.
“Testing? Testing what?”
Rulf, as usual, didn’t understand the old guild master’s words and asked what they were testing.
“I think the sixth demon king wants to know whether I am healed or not from our last battle,” The old guild master tightly clutched his hands into fists and explained about what he had thought behind the actions of the demons.
“What?” Rulf became shocked as he had never imagined this possibility.
