Chapter 73 - Sack Of Potato
The cold wintry breeze blew over the wisteria gardens entered the guest room where Wan Yi Jun and Ming Yue were immersed in an intense argument about whether to visit the hospital or not.
Ming Yue, who had no proper identity proof or insurance papers, refused to go to the hospital no matter how many times Wan Yi Jun tried to persuade her. However, Wan Yi Jun, who got fed up with her denial insisted on either calling a doctor home or letting him check whether she is telling the truth or not.
"Show me your wounds." He demanded while standing before Ming Yue, like a huge mountain that overshadowed her tiny figure under his towering and majestic stature.
"Master, how can I do that? You are my master, and I'm just a maid...and how can..." Ming Yue was running out of excuses as well as her patience before an adamant man, hellbound on treating her wounds.
"Then I assume that obeying your master is the most important thing?" Wan Yi Jun rebutted in the same tone when he felt that Ming Yue was playing the "status" card to stay away from him. Of course, he wasn't fond of their distinction as master and maid, even hearing the word started to irk him for some reason. But at this moment, he didn't hesitate to use his authority over her.
"Then let's go to the hospital." Wan Yi Jun wrapped his arms over his chest and asked her once again,
"I can't go to the hospital."
"Why?"
"It's just a scratch, master. I just have to put some disinfectant on it and I'm good to go." Ming Yue gave a vague reply and tried to escape the awkward situation. Going to the hospital with proper documents or letting Wan Yi Jun check out her wounds- which one is most dangerous?
"Okay. But how are you going to disinfect the wounds on your back without anyone's help? Wan Yi Jun agreed only to argue with a much more difficult question. He has noticed that Ming Yue has changed the bandage on her palm, but leaving the other wounds untreated only meant one thing- Her arms didn't reach the wounds.
"I'm flexible, master. Also, my arms are long enough to touch... Ahhh..." Ming Yue, who tried to demonstrate her flexibility by reaching out for her back, let out a wail as soon as she raised her arms. Only when she felt a throbbing pain raising from her left lower back, did Ming Yue know that the tree branch had hit her hard, and she fell pretty badly onto the floor.
Watching her pathetic efforts to prove him wrong, Wan Yi Jun couldn't help but sneer in anger.
"Are you crazy? Stopping moving around." He grabbed her hand and stopped Ming Yue from putting up an acrobatic display before him.
"Either let's go to a hospital or let me bandage it for you."
"Master, why are you putting me in this terrible situation. Didn't I say that it's okay?"
"Didn't I also say that I will take care of your full responsibility."
"But this is my body, my responsibility."
"Are you worried that I might misbehave with you since it's just two of us?"
"Miss Ming, I am sorry that If I give off a pervert vibe, but you are hurt, it is not just a scratch, but something serious. Did you see the blood trail, and do you have any idea how much blood must have been lost by now? No matter how well you clean this house and compound, it is more or less a jungle. One nasty microbial infection and you are done."
"I have someone I like..."
"What?"
"I'm planning to get married one day...you can't take-"
"I too have someone I like, other than that girl, I have no interest in a woman in general. I can assure you that I don't have any ulterior motives towards you."
If you feel that I'm taking advantage of the situation and harassing you, go ahead and report me to the police or labour office.
"You think I can afford to lead a legal case against you, master. No never."
"What should I do to make you trust me?"
"You should believe me when I say I'm alright?"
"Ahhh."
"See, this is what I said. Let's check your wounds and If it is something trivial, both of us can sleep without any worries. Or else let me try to call a doctor here since you refuse to go to the hospital."
"Hmm."
"Hmm?"
"You can."
"I can? What?"
"You can take a look."
"Thanks for trusting me. Let me get the first aid box."
"What are you doing, master? You can't just do that."
"Sorry, sorry...That's how we normally do it."
"Look over there,"
"Yes, sure."
"You can look now.
"There is one minor wound and few scratches....and a bruise. How did you get a bruise?"
"The tree branch hit me slightly."
"This is not going to end well, gets dressed quickly and let's get checked. What if you broke some bones?"
"Do you think I will be able to stay like this If I broke my bones?"
"Of course. You will stay like an emotionless statue even if you break all of your bones.
"Master, I'm telling you it's nothing. I got sensitive skin, even if someone grabs me, it will leave a bruise. If I put some pain relief patch it will be alright."
"We have to go out to get pain relief patches."
"I got it with me."
"Where did you get it?"
"
"Huh, I will stay on the ground floor itself. Since it is next to the kitchen, it would be easier for me."
"Hmmm, as you wish then. Good night, Ming Yue."
"Master, are you going to stay here only? What about your room on the first floor?"
"I'm too tired to shift to another room. I will just sleep here today and leave tomorrow."
"Yes, good night, master."
The glass shards shattered all across the floor, like a giant abstract art while making it impossible for a person to move inside the room without getting hurt.
It took a moment for Ming Yue to regain her bearings from the shock of the sudden accident. She took a deep breath to calm her pounding heart.
Since she stood facing in the opposite direction of the window, a few of the glass pellets hit her back, but still, she didn't even move a little bit.
Just as she looked at the broken window with narrowed eyes, hurried footsteps were heard from outside, followed by Wan Yi Jun's worried voice at the door.
"Ming Yue, what happened? Are you alright?" He knocked at the closed door and inquired. He just came down to take some water from the kitchen, and all of a sudden, he heard a loud crash from Ming Yue's room.
"Give me a second, master." Ming Yue replied while tiptoeing towards the door without stepping on the glass pieces.
She somehow managed to reach the entrance and pulled open the door to see a distressed Wan Yi Jun at the doorstep.
"What happened?" He asked once again and scanned Ming Yue, top to bottom,
"The window broke." Ming Yue casually answered and widely opened the door to reveal the room's state. "I mean the glass broke," She corrected herself and moved to a side so that Wan Yi Jun could enter the room,
However, instead of stepping inside, he just stood there and looked for any injuries on Ming Yue.
"Did you get hurt?"
"No, master." Even though she felt a stinging pain from her back, Ming Yue pretended that she was alright.
"What happened here?" Wan Yi Jun inquired as he looked at the shattered glass on the floor.
"I was standing here and all of a sudden, the window glass broke down."
"Hmm." Wan Yi Jun attentively nodded and carefully walked towards the open window,
"Master, don't go over there." Ming Yue warned when she saw Wan Yi Jun walking over the sharp glass pellets on the floor while wearing a pair of house slippers.
Hearing her voice, Wan Yi Jun stopped in his tracks and looked at the window.
Under the dark sky, he could see the faint outline of Wisteria garden's traditional annexe house.
The haunting sight of the old mansion where Wan clan lived for hundreds of years, along with the howling sound of cold wind and the murmuring of the trees, sent a chill down Wan Yi Jun's spine.
Though he haven't seen anything supernatural in the compound, he had heard from others that they had seen some figures wandering in the traditional house, scaring everyone else.
For some reason, Wan Yi Jun felt that someone was watching him from the darkness.
No matter how much he tried, he couldn't find any traces of any intrusion or external force.
"Did they change the window pane?" He asked while focusing on the glass pellets on the floor. Even though several trees grew beside the building, he couldn't help, but overlook that the windows got broken by the tree branches.
The intensity of the crash was so high that the entire window glass broke.
"Yes. Maybe the workers have forgotten to lock the windows." Ming Yue came up with an excuse and bent down to clean up the mess on the floor.
"But I asked them to use the
"Ahhh..."
"What are you doing? You have already injured your arm. Leave it there,"
"What if someone steps in it?"
"Who is there to step in it apart from us?"
"But, still, we need to clear out the glass pellets."
"You can clean it when your wounds heal. As for now, let's lock this room and get a worker to change the window glasses."
"I will take the room next door."
"Take the guest room on the first floor."
"W
Ming Yue went to one of the empty rooms for maids.
Her mind was still spiralling even at the thought of staying at this place. However, more than anything else, her mind was agitated by the fact that she would live under the same roof as Wan Yi Jun.
She placed the suitcase in one of the corners and picked up her phone,
Before leaving the rooftop house, she has contacted her big brother and Tora to make sure that they still don't know about her plan.
However, she still needs to inform Yojiro and let them know that she reached wisteria gardens safely.
After all, she had given a word that she would call them every day.
"Hmm...I'm safely returned home. He was tired, so he went to bed early. Did you eat something? Hmm, Where is Kousuke? Nechan is safe here, don't worry too much and go to bed...Hmm, I will call you tomorrow. Bye, bye."
She ended the phone conversation with a smile on her face.
She left the
