Chapter 456 - 456: The Poor Girl
Chapter 456 – 456: The Poor Girl
The women were harmless, except for the occasional jealous glance they shot towards her every now and then. She could hear their heartbeats thumping loudly against their fragile rib cages. Their hands shook as they lathered soap on her body, their breaths spiking with lust as their fingers slid down her contours.
The goddess leaned back, her eyes partially closed, trying to be as less intimidating as possible. Their reactions were of no surprise to her. After all, they were of this world- mere creations laying their eyes on the light that breathed life into them. Unknowingly, they were drawn to her like their wolves to the moon. Yet, they were conscious enough to hold back.
She could sense their fear rising from their own reactions. Luna bit her lips, trying to hold back a smirk. Sliding a hand up her exposed chest, she sealed the bit of her magic that she had carelessly let loose. The very next moment, she heard shocked gasps from all around her.
The goddess released her lower lip from the bite of her own teeth while slowly opening her eyes. She met a pair of dark brown eyes, wide with fright. The girl's face was pale with fear as she stared at the goddess who was batting her eyelashes innocently at her.
The servant looked like she had something to say. Luna raised a brow, waiting for a snarky remark. But none came. It was only a few minutes ago that they were all murmuring to each other in protest about being sent to serve a slave. It seemed that their protests had died down with what little magic that they had experienced.
The girl cleared her throat, stepping away from the tub with her eyes downcast. "P-please step out of the water," She stuttered, "m-milady."
Luna smiled, nodding at the girl glumly. The other servants stepped back as she stood up, their eyes downcast and their back stuck against the wall. Save for the head of the servants, who had earlier invited her into the bath, and the shivering girl, no one dared to approach her.
At the nod of the older woman, the girl quickly grabbed a pristine silken cloth and hurried towards the goddess, her heartbeat rising as she approached her. Luna turned her back to the servant as she hurriedly wrapped the cloth around her chest with shaky hands.
'You frightened the poor girl out of her wits.' The Tohar Sehlah remarked with a sigh.
"Maybe," The goddess replied with a shrug, raising her hands so that the girl could do her work with ease.
The servant looked up at her with covering eyes. "Did you say something, milady?" She squeaked, her voice failing her.
Luna shook her head, smiling as she patted the servant on her head softly. "Your hands are shaking, my dear." She said softly.
The girl's eyes widened, immediately stepping back with embarrassment. "I-I-" She stuttered as she watched the goddess grab the falling material land wrap it around her chest tightly.
Luna chuckled, shaking her head. "It's okay. You all may leave now." She said, turning to the others who immediately dropped their eyes from the sight of her body. "I will get dressed on my own."
"But the lord-"
"Is not here." The goddess replied, cutting off the head of the servants, who had earlier introduced herself to her as Alma.
The woman looked hesitant for a second, mirroring the expression on the rest of their faces. But most of them were expectantly looking at the older woman, hoping to run out of the room at the first opportunity. They were embarrassed and confused about the way that their bodies reacted to her only seconds ago.
Drawing a deep breath, Alma nodded, signaling to the servants to leave. The wolves filed out of the room quickly, picking up the water-filled tub with the ease of carrying a paper. As the last of them vanished from the room, drawing open the curtains for her, Alma turned to the goddess apologetically.
"I'm sorry for their behavior." She said with a bow. "They are young, and they adore the princess."
"Hmm?" Luna asked as she stepped outside the curtained room and into the alpha's bedroom.
She noticed that the bedsheets were already changed, and the blanket that she had earlier left in a pool on the carpeted floor was nowhere to be seen. A soft mauve dress lay spread on the edge of the bed together with a decorated wooden box beside it. A matching pair of silken shoes were neatly arranged on top of it.
"The princess was set to marry the lord," Alma said as she picked up the dress for her. "A-at least that was what she told everyone." She added hesitantly.
"I see," Luna replied as she slid the soft material over her head.
So that was it. That was the reason why that crazy woman was screaming and shouting at her a few hours ago. Jealousy pushed into her heart uninvitedly as the realization dawned on her. She hated that even though the life that the shard spent on this earth was superficial, some woman had the chance to invade it.
The Tohar Sehlah shifted in her mind uneasily, sensing the tension building up inside her. 'My lady, she is only human.' The stone reminded her, trying to push some sense into its emotionally driven master.
Alma cleared her throat, nervously drawing the irritated goddess's attention back to her. "I-"
"Don't worry," Luna replied, gulping down her emotions. "I won't tell on them." She said, forcing a smile on her face.
What the stone said was true. The princess was only a human, and she was a goddess. The shard was hers by all rights. She shouldn't be bothered by such a silly thing. She had hardly a few more days in this timeline, and he'd be leaving along with her. She thought, reassuring herself.
"Thank you, milady," Alma said gratefully as she hurried to braid her hair.
