Chapter 1449: Mommy is injured and daddy is hurt the most.
“Couldn’t you find something else on that person who turned himself in?” The coldness in Ji Ziming’s eyes gradually reappeared as the chilliness in his voice made the person on the other end sweat profusely.
“That person doesn’t have a bad rap, much less a DUI record.”
“Continue investigating, then; I refuse to believe that you can’t find anything!”
“Yes, boss!”
He hung up the call. The cold breeze kept reminding him the season was about to change. Two months ago, the leaves of the hundred-year-old Chinese parasol tree in the hospital’s courtyard were very green, yet they started turning yellow now.
“Daddy, mommy’s calling for you.” He felt someone tugging at his pants and lowered his head to find his daughter peering at him. “Let’s go. Mommy’s calling you.”
“Sure.” He Ji Ziming held her hand as they entered the ward.
“Has the person been caught?” Pei Ge, who was lying on the bed, asked the man, whose face was icy cold, upon his entry.
“Not yet. Someone turned himself in at the police station this morning, but I suspect that he’s just a scapegoat.”
“Then, this incident isn’t as simple as what we see on the surface.”
“Right. Regarding the mastermind behind this, I will still need some time.”
“I don’t have an issue with it. We can go home tomorrow.” The woman looked up at the man. Her heart ached at the sight of his bloodshot eyes. “I can go home to rest.”
“No. Stay here and listen to me,” rejected the man fast. He knew that something else could happen to his woman if she was not in his line of sight. Furthermore, only a few knew about the fact that she was at the hospital. The place was the safest for her now.
“But I’m bored of staying here.” The woman caressed her daughter who was by her side as she feigned unhappiness. “I’ve never liked hospitals.”
“Then, I’ll send you overseas.” Ji Ziming gave it a serious thought before speaking.
“No, I’m finally back in the country after much difficulty, yet you’re trying to send me abroad. I’m not going.”
“I don’t want mommy to go abroad, too.” Ran Ran blinked her eyes and looked aggrievedly at her father.
“Then, stay here for now. Once I find out everything regarding this matter, I will bring you back home, alright?” The chilliness in the man’s eyes subsided as he looked lovingly at the person on the bed.
“Alright, but you don’t have to accompany me here the whole day. I have the kids with me, so you can go to work. Don’t worry; this ward is very secured, and even the doctors and nurses need to scan their fingerprints before entering. Nobody will come all the way here just to harm me.”
“It’s always good to have more safety precautions.” His eyes flickered as they stopped on her. “Rest well and I’ll be heading out. Call me if there’s anything.”
“Okay.” Watching the man leave the ward, Pei Ge felt something that she could not explain. She did not even know what it was herself. She only knew that it was good as long as she was with him. As long as he was around, even the most painful times could be blissful.
“Mommy, I saw daddy crying yesterday.” Her daughter whispered into her ear the moment he left the ward.
“Really?” She was secretly gleeful about it.
“It’s true. Brother and I saw it together. If you don’t believe me, you can ask big brother.” The girl nodded confidently and the firmness in her eyes was apparent.
“Really, mommy. I feel that daddy is hurt the most by this.” Her son nodded in agreement with his sister.
“Then, did your daddy say anything?” Her eyelashes fluttered like butterfly wings. Her face was no longer as pale as when she had just been sent to the hospital. It was a bit flushed, but it was unknown whether this was a result of hearing that or her face was naturally red.
“I even heard him saying sorry.” The girl tilted her head after giving it a thought.
“Alright. I got it.” She nodded and proceeded to hug her children. She thought of the awkwardness when she met that man for the first time. Life was always filled with many unforeseeable things. Meeting him was her life’s most beautiful unforeseeable thing.
Just as Ji Ziming left the ward, the hospital director came to him. Bowing respectfully with a polite smile, the latter said, “Sir, I’m here to tell you something.”
“What’s the matter?” His deep eyes narrowed.
“This morning, I received Miss Qu Jingwan’s call. She told me to report your whereabouts in this city.”
“She’s really poking her nose in too many matters.”
“I rejected it, and she said that she’d make this hospital a target. Sir, do you think—”
“Do you know whose family this hospital belongs to?”
“Know it, sir! This is the Ji family’s hospital. If not for you helping me out, it’s impossible for me to have this position today…”
“Alright. It’s great that you know. If she orders you to do something else in the future, just inform me and I’ll settle it. All you have to do is be this hospital’s director with a peace of mind.”
“Understood.” The hospital director bowed in gratitude to him.
“If there’s nothing else, you can leave first. I still have something to settle.”
“Alright. I’ll take my leave now.” The hospital director turned to leave and the security personnel in place let him out. Behind, the transparent glass door reflected Ji Ziming’s handsome features, which seemed to have been carved by the gods.
His phone rang and he picked it up.
“Boss, I have a new lead.”
“Shoot.” His deep-set eyes narrowed. Looking at the reflection of himself in the glass door, he tugged at his tie and the corners of his lips lifted slightly. “I want to know just who dared to make trouble with my family from right under my nose.”
“The person who surrendered has a bank card with 7 million yuan transferred into it, but in less than an hour, that sum was transferred to another account. The owner of the other account is the person’s wife. They have a daughter who has heart disease, so I guess that the sum is for her operation.”
“Heart disease?” The coldness in his eyes resurfaced.
“Yes. I checked his daughter’s hospitalization record, and she happens to be confined in your family’s hospital.”
“In this hospital where I am now?”
“Yes. I’m presently checking her medical records in your hospital.”
“Alright. Report everything to me.”
“Yes, sir!”
Ji Ziming hung up and tried to arrange the pieces of information in his mind. He looked in the direction of Pei Ge’s ward and saw his daughter speaking to the woman. Constant laughter could be heard from the room, and it sounded as musical and beautiful as the chirping of skylark birds.
He had a feeling that the truth was clouding his judgment, causing him to be lost in a thick fog, unable to find his way back.
