Chapter 1449: This too is fate

Chapter 1449: This too is fate

Liam looked at the monk and listened to him, only to shake his head at the end. "No."

The monk's smile froze. "…No?"

"No break," Liam said calmly. "And we're not going back."

The monk's shoulders slumped instantly. Of course. Why would fate ever be kind? "Amitabah," he muttered and sighed dramatically, which Liam ignored.

"Give me the coordinates."

The monk hesitated for a moment. Then sighed again. He extended his hand, and a faint ripple of light appeared, forming a set of symbols in the air. A teleportation circle as well promptly appeared, and just like that, the hunting resumed again.

A few more days later... a similar scene repeated again.

"Aaaaahhhh!"

A loud scream tore through the air as the monk was dragged across a jagged stretch of blackened ground, his robes caught on something that was very much alive and very much trying to eat him.

"Senior brother! Senior brother! Please! Please! I will really try my best next time. Please save me this once. Aioooo! I am dying here! Please!"

A massive, tar-like limb rose from the ground, stretching unnaturally as it chased after him. The surface of the land rippled like liquid shadow, countless eyes opening and closing beneath the black crust.

The monk tripped and rolled, crashing face-first into the ground. "Amitabah!" The limb slammed down right where his head had been a split second earlier.

Liam stood a short distance away, completely untouched. He casually sidestepped another shadowy tendril, as if avoiding rain. "Why are you panicking so much?" he asked calmly. "It's not that dangerous."

The monk froze for a second. Then slowly turned his head. "Not that-" He choked as another tendril brushed past him, missing his face by an inch. "-dangerous?!"

Behind him, the ground split open. Another dozen tentacles erupted from the ground. Just as everything was about to turn disastrous, a thousand swords, no even more appeared, filling the air like a storm of light. A blinding golden brightness flooded everywhere and when the monk was able to see again, the black thing was no longer alive.

"Amitabah..." The monk collapsed flat on his back, arms spread out, staring blankly at the sky. When he woke up again, Liam was still there, sitting in front of him with a gentlemanly smile on his face.

"You demon!" The monk shrieked. Realizing that he had spoken out loud, he quickly corrected himself. "Haaa... Ha.... I didn't mean you. I thought we were still back there, senior brother."

Standing near him, Alex chuckled. "Sure, you definitely did not call my husband a demon."

"Of course not." The monk had a completely serious face.

"Right. I almost forgot how shameless you were." Alex scoffed and then stopped paying him attention, turning back to Liam. "Are you going back out there again?"

Before Liam could answer, the monk quickly blurted out. "No. No." He couldn't care less about how Alex treated him. All he cared about was getting out of this thing alive. "Senior brother, even I cannot continuously divine one fate encounter after another. You have to give me some time."

Liam showed no expression on his face so he quickly added. "My accuracy depends on it. Just give me some time and see for yourself. You will definitely get better results."

Liam still did not look convinced and the monk started sweating. Luckily for him, another voice interrupted them. "Give him the time he needs. I have something for you."

Everyone turned around to see Kaden standing there with a scroll in his hand. "Your fate is changing in exactly an hour. Take this and go. Your life and death will depend on what happens in the next hour."

Alex rolled her eyes. "That's awfully convenient. If Liam came back two days later, you'd still hand him the same thing and deliver the same rehearsed lines, wouldn't you?"

Kaden smiled. "Miss Alex, you don't believe in what I do, do you?"

Alex did not say anything.

Giving a glance at the monk, Kaden continued. "Perhaps you have only met people who did not give you much reason to believe."

The monk stiffened.

Alex crossed her arms. "Or maybe I just don't believe people who speak in vague riddles and call it wisdom."

Kaden smiled faintly, completely unbothered. "Doubt is natural. It is also… predictable."

Alex raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"

"Yes," Kaden said calmly. "People doubt what they cannot see. They mock what they cannot understand. And when the result arrives…" His gaze shifted slightly toward Liam. "…they call it fate."

"Liam coming here today, right now, right this moment is fate."

"Sure." Alex scoffed again. She placed a kiss on Liam's cheek and prepared to leave, not wanting to disturb him anymore.

However, before she could leave, Kaden suddenly looked startled. "Wait, Miss Alex. What if I tell you that our conversation right now is also fate?"

Alex froze in her steps.

"What do you mean?" Liam asked.

"You should take her with you this time. Trust me."

"Hmmm?" Liam raised a brow. If Kaden handed him a set of coordinates, he did not mind going there and checking things out but as for as trusting him went... "I will think about it.." Liam replied.

Kaden shook his head solemnly. "There is no time to think about it. Leave now and leave with her. This is all I can do to help you. The rest depends on you."

He handed over the scroll to Liam and then right in front of the monk's eyes, he teleported and left.

"what the fuck? Senior brother! That bastard left?! He left just like that?!" The monk started freaking out. "How could he leave just like that? Both of us are your slaves! We are supposed to serve you for all eternity! He can't leave yet! Come on, senior brother. This is bullshit!"

Liam ignored the monk as he stared at the scroll in his hands. It was a teleportation scroll. He took a minute and closed his eyes. When he opened his eyes again, there was no more hesitation. "Alex, let's go."
