Reborn As A Dragon Girl With A System

Chapter 128 - Alchemy Part Two

Chapter 128 - Alchemy Part Two

Ms. Wakevly smiled as she began to explain. "Golems can not even be put on the same pedestal as an elemental. From what I know of elementals, they are highly intelligent and are able to wield powers akin to gods. They are born from the land, and one may not see one for millions of years. Golems can not do much without the command of their creator. They can be told to do a task, and they will do it even without being shown. How they learn to do such things is still unknown."

"I see. Thank you for the explanation." Kana now had a better understanding between the two. She had heard golems can be made of many different things and take on the attributes of the materials used to make them. So she did not know if they were considered elementals or not. But this brought up another question. "Ms. Wakebly, one more question if may."

Ms. Wakevly liked proactive students who asked questions. She nodded her head and said: "Go ahead."

"What about the rock monsters and water monsters we see out in the world naturally. Are they not called golems as well?" Kana asked.

"They can be considered as such and have been named that as well. But they are more of a cross between a golem and an elemental as they are formed from the elements but are not yet an elemental. It has been said that after millions of years, these golems are able to become true elementals. However, they are usually hunted down and killed for their magic cores before they ever reach that stage. As you know, every being in this world has a system. Everything can level up, just like how trees and other planets can level up to become sentient and even gain humanoid forms. That is why Faegrocaeri, a continent filled with nothing but lush jungle, is home to the Fae race, which are sentient plants. The jungle is said to be very dangerous, and contact with the Fae there is rare. But there are a few Fae villages deep in the forest of Munas as well." As Ms. Wakevly was explaining things, she noticed that she had the class's entire attention, which made her happy.

"Let's continue on the main topic." Ms. Wakevly took out two instruments. One looked like a small stove, while the other was a small cauldron. "These two items here are essential to all alchemists. Many of you might already know, but alchemists, when they first start out, they begin with potions. Potions are a staple of all beginner alchemists. Here in my hand is something you can find anywhere in a field called greenseed grass. Greenseed grass has a compound in it that, once extracted and transmuted with star oil and a mana gem, it will make a low-quality mana potion. Watch carefully."

Ms. Wakevly took a stalk of greenseed grass into the palm of her hand and sent some magic into it while making special hand signs with her other hand and drew out a few balls of liquid from the greenseed grass. The greenseed grass itself turned to dust in an instant when the liquid was extracted. She then took the liquid she got from the greenseed grass, star oil, and the mana gem and placed them all into the pot. With a snap of her fingers, the small stove was lit aflame, and the pot on top began to boil. "Doing this process once things are brought to a boil, you need to begin infusing your magic power into it and swirling the three ingredients together, slowly merging them into their final state. This process can be long for a beginner, so do not worry about how long it takes. Go at your own pace when you first try this out. And when you finish your first transmutation, this is what you should come up with."

With another snap of her fingers, a puff of smoke came from the caldron, and just above it hovering in the air, was a small vial of blue fluid. "And here we have a low-quality mana potion. Now, if you all tap on your desk three times, the ingredients and instruments needed to do this will appear. Along with it will be a small manual on how to create your first low-quality mana potion. I want you all to try this out on your own first. I will assist those I think need help."

Everyone looked at each other and grinned. Hands-on things were always more fun than sitting through a lecture. Kana was no different. She was very excited to try out alchemy. She knocked on the table in front of her three times, and with a flash of light, the items she needed for her task appeared.

Not even two seconds went by before two seats over from her, a loud bang was heard. Kana looked over and saw Mr. Lambert's face covered in black soot. "What the hell is wrong with this thing!? All I did was toss the damn things into the pot and lit the flame. Why did it explode!?"

Ms. Wakevly was having a hard time holding back her laughter as she answered: "You can not put the greenseed grass into the cauldron as is. It will cause the cauldron to explode."

"Why the hell didn't you say something to start with!" Mr. Lambert wanted to yell and scream injustice, but when he looked over at Kana and saw her looking back at him, he closed his mouth, not daring to say more. He knocked on the table again to get a new set of materials.

A few minutes went by, and Kana had finally extracted the liquid she needed from the greenseed grass after many failures. What looked like a simple task to Ms. Wakevly was not simple in the slightest. One messed up hand sign, and the whole process would need to be restarted. With the liquid in the air, Kana glanced at her manual again, read the part for mixture, and prepared to begin the cooking process!
