Chapter 1616: Frozen
Chapter 1616: Frozen
Ning couldn’t worry about Shara just yet as he had to take out these two men before he went after the boss who had made his way upto the second floor.
‘I’ve tried projectiles, I’ve tried it on myself. I’ve even tried it on my weapons,’ Ning thought. ‘So the only thing that’s left is to check if my powers work when I touch someone.’
Thinking so, Ning moved to the right, dodging the man that came for him. He turned the knife around in his hand, using its hilt to strike him right in the throat.
As the man proceeded to grab his own throat, Ning pushed against him, sending him colliding with the other man who was about to attack.
‘Not that either?’ Ning thought. He felt nothing happening, no powers being used. There was no feedback.
‘The hell is my power?’ Ning thought, confused. He should’ve used it by now. Despite his current memories being fake, Ning knew for a fact that what he remembered was the correct thing.
And the thing he remembered was his being able to create water from his hand was more or so instant. So the fact that he couldn’t use this power concerned him.
‘I must be getting the activation method wrong,’ Ning thought, but now was not the time to stick around and experiment with what he was doing right or wrong.
As the last man tried to grab his friend who was shoved toward him, Ning arrived from the side and gave a strong kick right between the legs. Within a second, the man was falling to the ground, crying in pain.
Ning was about to continue a barrage of attacks when he suddenly heard screams from upstairs.
‘Shit!’ Ning thought, and punched the shoved man in the jaw, not even bothering to check if he was knocked out, and ran up the ladder.
He quickly made it upstairs and froze in shock as he saw a shocking scene up there.
Right next to a door that had been broken stood the boss with his hand stretched out inside. However, he couldn’t move anything further than that as his entire body was encased in thick white ice.
Ning slowly walked forward, confused. He looked at the statue of ice, not understanding how it came to form.
“Shara?” Ning asked. “Are you alright?”
“I… I…” the girl responded in a stutter. “I froze this man. I… I did it somehow.”
She was too confused to understand what she had done herself. Ning was surprised that she had done so.
“What?” he arrived by the door, looking inside to see her cooped up in the corner. “How did you…”
No, that didn’t matter right now.
He looked at the man frozen in ice next to him and knew that if he didn’t do something soon, he would die. He pushed the man backward, shattering the ice around him.
The man gasped in deep breath quickly, while shivering the entire way through.
Ning gestured for Shara to walk out. Shara was still shaking from either fear or adrenaline. Her emotions though were all over the place while she held onto her gold tightly.
She looked at the pathway before her and behind her, noticing a trail of blood.
She panicked. “You’re hurt!” she said, quickly noticing the cut on his leg. “You’re bleeding.”
“Oh yeah,” Ning said. He then realized that he must’ve been full of adrenaline as well to not notice the pain until it was brought up again.
“I’ll be alright, don’t worry. For now, we need to leave.”
The two of them walked down the ladder and arrived upon two men who were starting to get back up. The very first man Ning had downed was back up, and the one he hit in the nuts was struggling to remain standing but was still back up.
“Look,” Ning said. “We can fight again, or we can go our own way. Your boss is dying upstairs. If he isn’t given warmth in a couple of minutes, he will most likely die of hypothermia. So you can choose to fight me and lose, or save your boss.”
The two men looked at Ning and slowly stepped to the side to give way for him to leave. They were angry but they did not wish to fight him anymore. Anyone who could defeat four grown men at once was not someone that they could afford to fight against.
As much as they hated to let him go, they did in the end.
Ning walked out the side of the door, cautious the entire time. He kept his knife pointed outward and fully showing just in case they got other ideas again.
After walking outside, both Ning and Shara made a run for it.
Now that they were out, Ning could feel the burning pain of the cut in his leg and could ignore
it no more. Just as he was thinking that, he heard something.
<Ding!>
<You have helped protect Shara and defend her gold.>
<You have received 2 points as a Reward>
‘Oh, finally,’ Ning thought and quickly opened the Status page. He saw the 3 points that he had managed to earn in a short time and clicked on it to see what he could buy.
[POINTS SHOP
Minor Healing Potion: 1 Point
Minor Physical Enhancement Potion: 1 Point
Random Minor Weapon: 2 Points
10-20 Silver Coins: 2 Points
Minor UNIQUE Energy replenishment Potion: 3 points
]
Ning stared at the shop, somewhat surprised, but also somewhat disappointed. He was happy to see more added to the list of things he could buy, but they weren’t as good of items as he would’ve hoped to get.
The last one did make him quite curious though. What exactly was a Minor UNIQUE Energy replenishment potion? Judging by the way ‘UNIQUE’ was written, Ning had a feeling that it was the same Unique as the one in the ‘Current World’s Energy’.
‘So does that mean I can replenish some of the energy I use up upon using my power?’ he wondered. But that brought him to the more important question here.
Where the hell was his current power?
