Reincarnated as an Energy with a System

Chapter 1877: Exit

Ning kept his eyes on Forgath for the rest of the evening. The imp mingled with other guests, laughed at their jokes, raised his glass. He acted like nothing had happened.

But Ning noticed the way Forgath’s eyes kept darting toward him from time to time, looking for opportunities when he wasn’t looking. The man was planning to leave soon.

However, before the fundraiser actually began, he couldn’t leave. The fundraiser was there for impoverished children, so the head of the non-profit came to thank them all on the stage. He personally named Forgath and a few other billionaires who were giving away millions for charity.

There were some plays and fun events set up by the children from a local orphanage, as well as a meet and greet where they got to go around and talk to their favorite superheroes.

No one knew Ning, however, so none of them came to talk to him. A few kids did mention how great his suit was, so he was smiling by the end.

An hour later, the party reached a lull and people began making excuses to leave. Forgath finally made his way toward the exit as well, his eyes darting toward where Ning was.

Ning was looking straight at him with a smile on his face.

Ning followed, barely keeping his distance. The exit had no reporters and only guards, so Forgath slipped out quickly. Before Ning could even get to the exit, a few other people in the party walked over to him, trying to strike a conversation.

Ning spoke a few words back, but it was quickly clear that they weren’t there to talk to him. They were only there to delay him from reaching the exit. Forgath must’ve asked them to do so. Maybe even paid them. As soon as Ning realized that, he ignored them.

Just as Ning reached the exit, he saw the figure of Forgath slipping into a black limo with tinted windows. As soon as he entered, the doors closed and the limo took off.

Ning remembered the make and license plate of the limo, ready to follow the imp.

However, when he finally appeared at the gate, a few of the guards moved toward him.

“I’m sorry, sir. But we have been told that you are harassing a man. If you don’t mind, we would like to ask you a few questions,” one of the guards said.

Ning was about to speak when he saw one of the guards in the corner of his eye bringing out a strange bracelet from his bag. He was trying to be sneaky about it, but Ning could see him doing so clearly.

“If you don’t mind, I have something important to do. If you wish to talk, please visit the Star Hero Agency and talk to my agent.”

Ning stepped away from the first guard, and just as he did, the man with the bracelet lunged forward, arm outstretched. Ning dodged the metal band in his hand, the suppression cuff glinting under the lights. As he stepped away, the man fell before him. Before he could think of saying anything else, another man was already bringing out another suppression cuff.

’God! These things are supposed to be super expensive. How many fucking cuffs do these people have?’ Ning thought with a confused look.

The second person came from behind, reaching for his wrist. Ning shifted his weight and pushed the man with his shoulder. The man hit the ground hard, wind knocked out of him.

“Stop right there!” another one shouted.

By then, the other guards had stopped caring about the suppression cuffs and a few were even starting to bring out their guns. Ning couldn’t even be sure if those guns had rubber bullets or actual bullets. He was more or less certain that the guards hadn’t been paid off yet, but at this rate, he just couldn’t be sure.

He had to deal with them without hurting or maiming them.

Ning moved. He grabbed one of the guards’ wrists, twisted it, and sent him crashing into another. Another one swung at him with a baton. Ning ducked under it and drove his elbow into the man’s ribs. The guard went down gasping.

Ning saw one pointing his gun at him, and without even thinking, Ning took the baton from the fallen guard and threw it at the guard before he could react. The gun fell from the man, and in that chaos Ning neutralized a few other guards. In just a few seconds since the conflict started, Ning had taken care of all the guards there and was already running away.

Ning ran out, a few more guards following behind him to catch up, but that didn’t matter to him anymore. The moment he was far enough from the venue, he heard the notification.

The moment the notification came, Ning knew he was free. He turned into a bat and launched into the sky, flying high up in the air in a matter of seconds. The guards following behind him were forced to watch with slack jaws as there was nothing else they could do anymore.

Ning immediately flew down in the direction the limo had gone, finding it less than two blocks away, unable to get away as quickly due to the congested traffic. The car weaved through the traffic still, getting out of the denser zone and into one that was much easier to drive in. The instant there were fewer cars on the road, the limo took off.

That hardly mattered for Ning though. With wings beating hard against the night air, he flew through the sky, chasing after the limo. The limo was fast, but it could never reach his speed. He appeared above the limo less than a minute later and transformed back into his human form, plopping down on the roof with a heavy thud.

“You can stop, Forgath. It’s better for you if we just—”

In the middle of Ning speaking, the car suddenly vanished.
