Chapter 154 Fall
Despite Beatrice's confusion about what they should do, there was no need to be worried about their situation.
In fact, Kyle was confident that his wind affinity and Arashi's help would be more than enough to solve their current issues.
They might be a minute away from flying into all kinds of trees with various sizes, but that was something they could use to their advantage!
By simply controlling the hang-glider, with the use of their wind affinity, Kyle and Arashi were searching for the largest tree that didn't have many powerful hues.
The fewer hues the better.
As such, after some time passed, Kyle had finally found an ideal tree.
Thus, without showing any signs of hesitation, he glided towards it, while informing Beatrice what they would do.
Initially, she had been a little bit confused about what they should do.
But, given Kyle's confidence, there was nothing to be worried about.
Rather than worry, Beatrice began to realize that she had lived her entire life in the wrong way.
Being raised like a princess, she had never been forced to do anything arduous.
All she had done was cultivate while being oblivious to the majority of the problems of a poor cultivator.
Apart from this, learning how to fight was something she chose to do because she wanted to.
However, that was more like a hobby to spend some of the free time she had on her hands.
Because of that, she felt that she had to rely on someone else who would lead her through all possible situations.
It was not even the fact that she had to rely on others that caused goosebumps to spread over her body all of a sudden.
But the realization that her entire mind simply accepted her reliance just like that was unnerving.
In the end, Kyle had just reincarnated a year ago, and his prior life's knowledge was not vast either. It was simply filled with information about a cultivator's past life that had overcome numerous challenges of the Old Universe.
Rather Kyle was but a commoner, who had been unable to cultivate in his past life.
This was something Beatrice found extremely strange considering that Kyle was so determined.
His ambition to become stronger, allowed him to unleash his talent.
Being able to comprehend all kinds of things as long as he had the given time made Kyle intelligent, but that was not exactly the case.
He was sure that his intelligence was average. Yet, his desire to acquire more knowledge was a different matter!
His desires were what fueled his determination, ambition, and thirst for knowledge.
It finally allowed him to be the person he was right now.
Even if that was a good trait in Beatrice's eyes, she couldn't help but doubt his opinion.
That was even more so the case when he began to loosen the hook that attached him to the hang-glider.
Through this his lower body was pulled to the ground as gravity did its work.
He was barely being held by the hang-glider owing to the force he used to hold the pole of the hang-glider!
Under normal circumstances, Kyle would call this insane too.
However, they weren't even 50 meters above the highest treetop anymore!
As such, using his affinity, and soul force, helped them survive a fall of 50 meters.
Luckily, the numerous small tree branches and the wind affinity slowed down their fall by a considerable degree.
Other than that, he could use soul force to hide his body, preventing him from being scratched or injured any further.
And, and even if something were to happen, using his Nurture ability was still possible as long as he was still alive.
Thus, jumping down a few dozen meters should be fine if he didn't hit the ground directly.
Given that, he was quite excited to jump high up from the air, which would give him the first-hand taste of how it was to fly.
Using the hang-gliders was already interesting, but he was forced to glide with it, and it had been impossible for him to truly fly earlier.
As such, diving through the air with small adjustments according to the amount of soul force that was used to exert the wind affinity could work wonders.
Telling Beatrice to do the same as he did, Kyle felt the wind rush at him faster as she reluctantly followed suit.
Yet before they jumped off the hang-gliders, Kyle once again steered the hang-gliders in another direction.
With this, he wanted to prevent any other issues that could happen owing to the fact that the entire surroundings were overflowing with all kinds of beasts.
Through this, they circled once more above the largest tree that had by far the fewest living beings in its vicinity, which was why it became Kyle's choice.
Owing to them hovering around the tree, they attracted some attention from beasts that could see high up in the air.
But instead of moving towards Kyle and Beatrice, they remained silent, cowering in fear.
While the beasts were too frightened to even approach the tree, Kyle was seemingly unbothered. His attention was already on the hues of everything that had once been alive, or undead.
This included everything inside the gigantic tree and the majority of beings around the tree.
In the end, from a greater distance, Kyle couldn't see many things well because the extent to which his Nurture ability was empowered could be described as little.
Only stronger hues were perceivable at a larger distance.
This included the terrifying existences that had been extremely far away, so far that Kyle had not even been able to see them in the open space.
He could only see hazy dots indicating their presence.
While Kyle seemed to be unbothered by the gigantic tree's existence, Beatrice felt somewhat uncomfortable.
Nevertheless, she also agreed that it was the only way for them to reach the ground safely.
Thus after the hang-glider was about to leave the proximity of the tree, Beatrice couldn't help but stare at Kyle.
He had a distinct gleam in his eyes and a child-like smile indicating that was about to do something stupid.
And it was just a moment later that he let go of the pole he had been holding as he said,
"Let's go!"
His voice sounded overjoyed, and the moment Beatrice heard him, she couldn't help but shake her head, only to let go of the pole too.
She had already loosened her hook because she understood that Kyle was not joking.
And even though she had been raised without any real difficulties, Beatrice was unable to comprehend how quickly she had started to trust Kyle.
He was able to make her do so many things for the first time in her life since the Undeads had left them.
It had barely been a few weeks, after all, and the majority of that time had been used to cultivate and sleep!
As such, Beatrice began to wonder if choosing to stay by Kyle's side would kill her before her thirst for blood would claim her life.
Yet, there was no time to think about the dangers that lurked around Kyle, because she was already falling to the ground.
Stretching his hand out, Kyle grasped Beatrice's hand, before he pulled her towards himself.
Even if his soul force control had been strengthened, and he was confident in protecting himself, there was still Beatrice whom he had to look after.
She didn't have an affinity that could slow down her fall, and if he were to spread out his affinity to envelop her, it would be quite problematic.
With that in mind, he used one of the plans he had in mind as he shouted from the depths of his lungs.
"Bite me, while releasing your spirit force and mana!"
There were still many unknown factors about the blood draining effect Beatrice's bite caused.
But, one thing they had noticed before was that releasing mana or spirit force while biting Kyle changed its effect.
Not only was it possible for the effect to last longer the more mana was used, but the potency of the effect was strengthened with the use of spirit force.
The more spirit force was used the higher the potency of the bite, while the duration of the blood draining effect became shorter.
However, at the same time, the more mana was used the longer the lasting period was.
At the same time the potency gradually decreased.
Because of that, Kyle wanted Beatrice to use both her entire mana and spirit force to bite him.
It would rapidly drain him of his blood in order to give him the strongest possible blood draining effect.
It was still not extraordinarily powerful, and the effect caused by the two cultivation energies were repulsing each other.
This, in turn, made them weaker than what they would be if used alone, but that was not an issue.
Instead, Kyle believed that while the blood drain effect was in effect, nothing would happen to them.
In his opinion, even the contrary might happen, and they would be able to escape all kinds of dangers without a single scratch.
However, he didn't want to rely on his luck a lot.
This was at least what Kyle sensed when he felt the blood draining effect reveal its full potential as he circulated soul force through his body with a shockingly high velocity.
Accumulating his soul force at one spot, he immediately began to transmute it with the use of his wind affinity. Aiming straight ahead, he was ready to shoot out a blast of wind that should block his fall.
Unfortunately, he had to see something concrete, otherwise, it was impossible to get the perfect timing.
As such, he held Beatrice in his arms with her back facing the ground.
Her silver hair brushed into his face, almost slapping him. B
But he was still able to see everything when their distance from the treetop reduced to less than five meters.
At that moment, Kyle moved his hand to tightly hold Beatrice. Stretching it towards the ground, the entire energy Arashi had accumulated was blasted out of his arm.
In a matter of a second, Arashi had transferred wind-transmuted soul force to his body, which was instantly shot out of his arm like a bullet out of a gun.
Owing to this, his soul veins were almost torn apart, and a searing heat spread through him right from his soul vessel up to his arm.
By shooting the wind blast out of his left arm, the impact steered them sideways a little, exactly as Kyle had planned because his back was now facing the treetop.
Beatrice was much weaker than him right now, whether it was their cultivation base, remaining energy, or brute physical strength, thus he could endure much more than her!
At that moment the entire soul force from the depths of his body was released from his back, shooting towards the treetop.
Their direction was changed forcibly, rebounding towards Kyle, whose back faced the wind blast, knocking him out of his breath.
While it made him gasp for air, it also slowed down his fall by a large margin, astonishing Beatrice, who was eyeing the treetop.
Yet, a moment later, she felt a warm hand on top of her head, pushing her down to prevent her from facing an injury as they fell through the treetop.
The ginormous tree had a large network of thousands of larger and even more tiny branches.
They were all hidden by leaves, slowing down their fall even further.
Unfortunately, that didn't mean Kyle didn't feel any pain.
On the contrary, the tiny branches jutting out at odd angles scratched and pierced into his back.
They sliced into his skin before tearing his leather armor and clothes apart.
He felt as if his entire back had been through a grater, and it was only when they hit one of the thicker branches that their fall found its end.
Crashing onto the largest branch around, their fall was halted, as they both groaned making Kyle almost lose his consciousness.
He tried to breathe, but it was more difficult than expected, while his back began to ache heavily.
Despite that, he didn't loosen his grasp around Beatrice, unsure if the branch they were hanging down upon might break.
Fortunately, this didn't happen and after a few seconds, his grasp loosened lighty as his arms twitched.
He could feel his nerves, cramping up owing to the force he had used to shield Beatrice.
Meanwhile, Beatrice was finally able to take a deep breath after the grasp around her loosened.
"You really are…insane…"
Smiling dryly upon hearing her scolding, Kyle could barely mumble an answer.
"And you are…quite heavy right now…"
