Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Starting From the Dragon Tribe
Chapter 38: Late Autumn has yet to Arrive, but the Maple Leaves have Already Reddened
“Split Second! So it was that Kotodama.” Fremont was surprised; this sort of divine Kotodama paired with an S-grade would be like a second coming of the legendary dragonslayer, Anjou.
“But, a distance like 10 kilometers would use too much stamina.” Immediately after, he frowned. Split Second was not the sort of Kotodama that could be used for a long period of time.
Theoretically, Split Second can scale infinitely, making it stronger than Time Zero, but this is a misconception.
Split Second can only increase the user’s speed, but not his perception, and the method by which it alters time—is slightly inferior to that of Time Zero: A Time Zero user can truly slow his surroundings by dozens of times, while he himself is unaffected, being able to think, like how to dodge, how to attack, and how to kill the enemy.
But Split Second is different in that the user’s reflexes and thinking speed remain the same, so no matter how fast you were, you’d still need to be able to control yourself; for example, if you were to go up to the seventh tier of Split Second, increasing your speed by 128 times, would you still be able to control your knife movements?
In addition, a Kotodama like Split Second takes a huge toll on the body, as it is used mostly during a critical moment of the battle, such as slashing a blade or firing a gun.
That’s why history’s strongest Split Second user, Viscount ‘Silverwing’ Charlotte, wielded a revolver: he only needed to aim and then quickly fire; the consumption of stamina was minimal that way.
But now, Lu Chen was trying to run with Split Second, 10 kilometers no less, which undoubtedly meant it was a huge drain on his energy. This caused Fremont to worry that even if he made it in time, his battle power would be nil.
“Will he be okay?” Others had the same worry, while Susie was looking at Chu Zihang.
“Brother Lu’s… physical ability seems to be pretty good.”
Chu Zihang was also somewhat doubtful, but since Lu Chen chose to act this way, then he should be able to handle it, right…
They already called a helicopter, and it would arrive in about 10 minutes. If Lu Chen stalls for time, the situation could change too.
Though his mentor told him to let him use his Kotodama in front of others, he couldn’t stand to just watch his classmates die like that.

The wind whistled in Lu Chen’s ears, the city’s neon lights stretched into bands of lights. At that moment, he felt like a time traveler.
Passersby on the street only felt a sudden gust of wind. Ladies pressed down on their skirts, looking around in surprise, but nothing could be seen.
It has been a long time since Lu Chen ran so freely. In this modern steel forest, moving like this was the ultimate freedom.
Fremont and the agents’ worries were completely unneeded. Lu Chen didn’t have a Kotodama at all; this was his basic physical abilities. A distance as short as 10 kilometers was no different from a short run to him.
In the maple forest of the Redhill Park, another agent was sent flying into a tree.
But the agents were no pushovers either; the wounds on Albert’s body started to increase, and the agent who used Black Thunder seized the opportunity to blow apart the scales on his chest, revealing ghastly white bone.
“Marissa! Marissa! Why are you running away!” Even during his rampage, his gaze was locked upon the injured Lutecia, who was trying to slowly back away.
Once again raising his arms, he flailed away the blades embedded within along with their wielders. He threw his head back and roared.
The clouds happened to part at that moment, moonlight spilling onto his body. His green scales had already engulfed his body, and on his back were two writhing bags of flesh. It seemed like he was in great pain.
Pbbbtt—
Amidst the sound of skin violently tearing apart, a pair of massive wings unfolded. It was like watching the advent of a demon from the days of old. The wind screamed out, the leaves flew, and the bright white moonlight seemed to have a few shades of blood within.
“Late stage dragonization…” An agent bitterly said. Such a target, covered entirely by draconic flesh and bones and a Bronze Throne user on top of that, was simply insurmountable.
“Seniors, step aside!” Suddenly, someone determinedly moved forward, still coughing blood, but eyes resolute. It was Lancelot.
He had decided. As opposed to everyone dying here, it would be better to fight with his Kotodama. As for whether Redhill Park would be destroyed by fire, that was no longer something that could be considered now.
Albert seemed to realize something, and he woke up from his intoxication caused by the acquisition of greater power. A pair of piercing golden pupils looked toward Lancelot, who started rushing toward him.
Kotodama: Blaze
Bright yellow flames rose up. In this instant, it was as if tons of napalm were unleashed onto this maple forest. Lancelot tried to control the intensity and range, but the heat of the flame will never decay.
“I…” Looking from afar, Lutecia’s legs gained back some strength after she witnessed this spectacle. In her mind, she thought, are all freshmen this year that insane?
For him to release this sort of Kotodama within the Redhill Park, has he not heard of that old saying?
If you set fire to the mountain, you’ll go to jail, junior brother!
Even if the Kotodama were able to burn Albert to death, the mountain fire would still kill them.
“Shit, notify the fire department.”
The first thing Fremont did upon learning of such news was to have the college dispatch the local fire authorities.
And Lancelot took a few steps back, then plopped down onto the ground, panting, as he watched the figure writhing in the flames, feeling relieved.
To the agents’ despair, they heard the sound of a large fan sweeping the flames away, and the steel demonic body rushed out, all burned and black, its face disfigured, but obviously not fatally wounded!
After rushing out from the flames, he rolled on the ground several times, reducing the fire to just a few weak licks of flame.
Lancelot didn’t know if he had enough power to try again, but he was sure that even if he did, it wouldn’t be able to burn the monster to death.
The Kotodama: Blaze’s strength lies in its large area of effect, but it is sorely lacking explosiveness and temperature when compared to the Kotodama: Royal Flame.
This combat Kotodama is not suited for dealing with single targets.
Just when Lancelot thought his life was about to end here, that pitch-black demon did not focus on him, instead running directly towards Lutecia, who had already ran quite far away.
“Fucking sick!” Lutecia was somewhat regretting provoking this guy; his obsession was really abnormal.
“Marissa, I love you! Marissa, I’m sorry…!” Albert’s mind had evidently been eroded by the draconic blood to the point of delirium; all that remained was his perverted obsession. His eyes were set only on the blonde girl running in the maple forest.
He wanted to grab her, he wanted to violate her, he wanted to rip her apart!
He wanted to make up for that night’s regrets, he wanted to savor the delicacy of power and strength forever, he was no longer that cowardly boy, he was now a monarch who had mastered violence!
Lutecia was injured and could not run fast, but even if she weren’t, she still would not have been able to outrun the dragonized Albert.
At last, she leaned onto a maple tree. The burning maple forest dyed half of the sky red, and Albert was like a demon of apocalypse, walking toward her.
The demon reached out his arms as thick as iron pillars. Lutecia drew her gun and fired, but only sparks could be seen, and when she was down to the last bullet, she hesitated. Should she shoot the demon, or herself?
But before she could come to a conclusion, she saw a gale in the distance.
The burning flames were split apart by the gale, scattering mountains of maple leaves all around. The light of the fire reflected between the maple leaves and finally projected onto the flowing blade covered by red.
Late autumn has yet to arrive, but the maple leaves have already reddened.
The gale stopped, the maple leaves drifted down, along with the huge body, which collapsed with a large thud. Only the young man, with a head of short messy hair and pure-gold pupils shining with lava-like light, stood, sheathing his blade.
“Senior Sister, are you okay? “
Just as Lu Chen’s voice rang out, a head with an obsessive, fixated gaze fell out of the sky and onto the ground.
TL Note: From now on, the Executive Department will be called the Execution Bureau.
