Chapter 41: The Main Quest and Road to Godhood
After the conversation, nobody had the heart to play anymore. Everyone sat in silence, lost in their thoughts.
And for Lu Chen, the third phase of his quest was finished. The newly unlocked quest was a long-term one, but long-term to what extent?
He wasn’t even sure if he’d be able to fulfill it with the time he had left.

The long list of rewards made Lu Chen’s mouth water. He used a Dragon Blood Seed before, which barely allowed him to possess draconic blood. It was too weak. Using Cassell College’s standards, it probably wouldn’t even reach D-class.
But what if he could continue obtaining materials to purify his blood? This most apparent and direct attribute bonus alone made Lu Chen’s heart flutter.
But therein lay the problem: if even the Secret Party didn’t know where the Dragon King slumbered, where would he go to kill it?
And the quest clearly marked that the difficulty limit was ‘Certain Death.’ He now mostly understood the difficulty tips; it was probably based on his current strength to form a comprehensive assessment.
So before he just entered the world, both quest branches were easy difficulty, but this time, the upper difficulty limit was Certain Death. This meant that his current power was incomparable to that of the Dragon King’s.
He could only start from the bottom for now: kill the minions first to increase his power, and should he awaken his Kotodama, his power would be amplified even further.
Sigh, it’d be so much easier if I were given a chance to kill a Dragon Monarch while it was still sleepy from its slumber.
Of course, Lu Chen knew he was daydreaming. It wasn’t as if he didn’t listen attentively in class. Every time, when the Four Great Overlords awakened, there would be a sea of bloodshed, and the Secret Party had to make huge sacrifices each time. It would often require the start of a tumultuous conflict to put the overlords back to sleep.
The Dragon King’s hatching grounds were absolute secrets. They already possess matured fighting prowess the moment they hatch, so if the Secret Party were able to find them before the Dragon King awakened, they’d be able to gain the upper hand.
Other than the main quest, he unlocked a new sidequest.
~~~~~
[Side Quest: Dragonslayer]
Quest details: Hunt and kill Death Servitors, dragon subspecies, pure-blood dragonkin, to obtain Origin Coins. This Quest can be completed unlimited times. Note: First kills of each kind are only counted towards the main Quest; this Quest only counts kills after the first.
Quest difficulty: Easy ~ Certain Death
Quest reward: 500 ~ 80000 Origin Coins
Failure penalty: None
~~~~~
Lu Chen thought that it was a great quest. Although he couldn’t use Origin Coins here, working in the Execution Bureau was not a waste of time at all.
Both quests contained no failure penalty, because if you didn’t do them and instead idled around, once you took on an Execution Bureau mission, failing it would basically mean death anyway.
And Lu Chen did not intend to idle around. He pursued combat, pursued transcendence, because he only had less than 3 years to live. If he failed to transcend and be born anew from the ashes, the only thing waiting for him would be the common fate of all Mystic Warriors.

Cassell College, underground, in a dark blue space
A muscular man was sitting in a recliner, a whiskey on the rocks in one hand, as he looked at the projection in front of him.
It was a dim panorama captured by satellite footage. The clouds obscuring the earth lit up like fiery nimbuses. As the wind surged, the clouds dispersed to reveal a burning maple forest.
Time within the video gradually started to move, the image blurred, and all that could be seen were occasional movements within the forest. There was a shadow that seemed to be fighting. The video zoomed into the designated spot and stopped.
What happened next in the video, captured from a bird’s eye view by the satellite, was shocking.
It was a line, like a brush of God, extending from a distance, and anywhere it went was split by God’s greatness. The blaze stood apart as if to welcome the ruler’s arrival, the maple leaves fluttering in the night were like salutes to the emperor. That line moved until it stopped right next to the shadow, then shortly after, the shadow ceased to move.
“This speed, judging from his physical test results, should be fifth tier? No, this might just be fourth tier Split Second… fourth tier Split Second. With that lightning speed, that high-risk hybrid, whose blood had dragonized to that extent, could not react at all. He didn’t even feel the wind, because his hand was faster than the wind. One slash, crisp and clean. Schneider sure found a treasure this time,” the man said as he took a sip of his liquor, then lit a Cohiba Cigar. He asked the illusory girl next him, “What do you think?”
“He is very talented; Split Second hardly has a toll on his body. And even though he only has fourth tier Split Second, he is able to move at the speed of the famed seventh tier Split Second user. It’s obvious that his abnormal power and physical abilities are far beyond that of the average hybrid.”
“Tsk tsk, even a seventh tier Split Second user… would be unable to run a ten-kilometer race with his Kotodama activated”’ The man looked toward his left, where a beam of light directly shone down. A girl’s shadow stood in the center of the beam, translucent, shimmering with a gentle light, her long black hair falling to her slender bare feet, just shy of reaching the ground. She wore a long silk dress that resembled nightwear, and was currently smiling at the man sitting on the recliner.
“EVA,” the man reached out to touch the girl’s long hair. No matter how many times he did that, he would fall for the same illusion. It was as if she was there, as if she really was there.
The girl stretched both hands to “hold” the man’s broad palm, but neither one was able to feel the other’s warmth.
“Are you mournful to see Albert die so easily?” The girl suddenly lightly smiled as she asked in a slightly teasing manner.
“He was only a thief who stole the power of a king, thinking that he could do anything by waving violence around. In reality, he was just a clown. How could his half-assed obsession… compare to the determination of an avenger?” Having said that, the man looked at the girl, a pair of golden pupils blazing like fire.
“Then this video?” The girl softly asked.
“Delete it and the original footage from the satellite as well,” the man said indifferently.
