Starting From the Dragon Tribe

Chapter 47: Lionheart Society President, Lu Chen

The Lionheart members within Amber Hall all clenched their fists tightly, for this humiliation to be so bluntly acknowledged on this night, even more so when the one who did so was the current Lionheart president.

Some Lionheart members wanted to speak up in order to defend the president. They had lost the Day of Liberty, resulting in a loss of the privilege of using Norton Hall, but it wasn’t Valery’s fault, because he wasn’t even at the college at the time.

And the new Student Union president, Caesar Gattuso, was a young man who was immensely talented. On one hand, there was the group of lions without their Lion King, and on the other, the birth of the new Tiger King. And in terms of automotive racing and whatnot, Caesar was superior as well.

But no one dared open their mouths. Valery was prideful, and so were they. Prideful individuals never excuse their failures; they only look for ways to succeed.

Valery looked straight at his mistakes, denounced his incompetence, and no matter the reason, they lost Norton in the end, resulting in this sacred succession ceremony having to be held in the newly rented Amber Hall.

“But, such days will not last for much longer. My era will end today, and there will be a new Lion King to lead you. He will lead the pride to retake our territory and reclaim the glory of the Lionheart Society.” Valery raised his right fist high into the air, “Let us welcome the new president, the lone S-grade student, Lu Chen!”

The main doors of Amber Hall opened. A youth in a school uniform appeared. The Lionheart insignia on his uniform shone brightly under the candlelight. In his hand was Red Maple, which his mentor had given him in the evening.

Lu Chen walked into the hall, and all members on both floors cast their eyes on him, partly with scrutinizing eyes, but more with warm expectation and respectful admiration.

In this society that had existed for more than a century, he felt for the first time the heaviness of its history upon him, its soul that had been passed down from generation to generation. Looking through the candlelight at the numerous pairs of eyes, he felt as if he heard the roar of lions from the grassland.

He moved his eyes, gazing through the candlelight to meet the gaze of Lionheart members, lighting up the golden pupils of those he looked at.

He walked slowly until he reached the stairs leading upward, and when he did, every single Lionheart member lit up their golden pupils. The candlelight in Amber Hall was no longer the brightest; instead, those solemn eyes greatly illuminated the hall, as if lighting up the Lionheart Society’s road ahead.

Lu Chen stopped to close and open his eyes, his pure-gold eyes seeming to flow with lava within. It felt abrupt in this pride of lions, but there were no words spoken. He merely nodded at everyone, and at once, everyone stood straighter, especially the freshmen.

He walked slowly up the stairs next to Valery and locked eyes with him.

At this instant, Valery felt the pressure that this youth emitted for the first time, and he instantly understood.

The young man was not here to accept the coronation; he was merely here to take the crown that was rightfully his. He was exceptional to the point wherein this was not an appointment of succession, but was the emergence of the new king to take over his territory.

For some reason, Valery was unable to offer the words of encouragement he prepared in advance.

Valery produced a cylinder and took out an ancient parchment from it. He spread it out, and on it was the name of every Lionheart president in history. At the top of the list was Manecke Cassell’s name.

He then took a small bottle from the current vice president, a bottle in which flowed a dark golden liquid. It was the blood of a pure-blood dragon!

He drew blood using a goose feather quill and handed it to Lu Chen.

“Sign your name.”

Lu Chen received the quill and wrote his name at the bottom.

“Our new president, do you have anything to say to everyone?” After everything was done, Valery’s expression was no longer as serious.

“Such as?” Lu Chen lightly replied. He saw Chu Zihang, Milana, and other acquaintances among the two columns of people on the first floor.

“Such as leading everyone to retake Norton Hall, or something like that,” Valery quietly reminded him. He was now suspicious that this junior brother had a social disorder, because if so, there would probably be some problems managing this association.

Yet Lu Chen laughed and shook his head: “Retake Norton Hall? In my view, the legacy and power of Lionheart Society comes not from the location of the club’s activities, right?”

Valery did not answer for a moment, and the Lionheart members all looked at Lu Chen, wondering what exactly the new president meant.

“Retaking Norton Hall is but a minor matter, not worthy of any special declaration,” Lu Chen said indifferently. “I read about Lionheart Society’s history, and I want to ask, did the Lionheart Society’s glory come from fighting over event venues in school?”

Everyone was silent.

“Cassell College’s original purpose was to serve as a military base, and the ones here were the elites of the military, the Secret Party’s sword. In my opinion, competing with other groups for activity venues is a ridiculous thing, so childish.”

These words made many seniors in the Lionheart Society furious. Numerous golden eyes glared at him, but the young man was unmoved.

“The glory of the Lionheart Society is not something that simple; it is a glory that is earned by spilling blood on the battlefield, a glory earned with… dragon blood!”

Lu Chen paused, then said, “Which is why I won’t say something like retaking Norton Hall or whatever: that would appear to be too childish. We are the Lionheart Society, we should shake the wilderness with our roar, we should strike fear into the dragonkind! We are the Secret Party’s sword, and though we are still being polished, our lethality should make the enemy tremble nonetheless!”

As he said that, Lu Chen pulled out Red Maple from his waist. The flowing blade reflected the pairs of scalding golden eyes and wavering candle flames.

“If you all still hold hesitation within your hearts, then I will act as the tip of that sharp sword, and all you will have to do is follow my steps.”

Thunderous applause rang out. No magnificent rhetoric was used, yet it moved their hearts all the same.

They were all people who aspired to join the Execution Bureau upon graduating, and as the new president said, bathing in dragon blood is the highest honor!

Compared to that, fighting for the right to use Norton Hall seemed to truly be “childish.”

“After tonight, I’m afraid that guy Caesar will not be able to sleep,” Valery applauded as well and secretly laughed.

Lu Chen did indeed not know how to give speeches, but he knew what to say to warriors going to battle. He once said this to countless Mystic Warriors who followed him to battle, and he indeed was the sword tip. But, when the sword tip finally pierced the heart of the enemy, upon looking back, the rest of the sword had ceased to exist.

It wasn’t a war that he wanted to fight. Whether it was his companions or those Western soldiers, everyone died for nothing.

Until finally, when he got tired of such rhetoric, he had no left to say it to.

And now, there were people who were by his side once again, but this time, it was a war against an alien race, a war to defend the history of the human race… a war with meaning.

Lu Chen rubbed his brow and felt a little mentally drained.

He was starting to somewhat regret his succession as the president of the Lionheart Society. It wasn’t just a position to lead the charge in battle as he had originally thought. Turns out there’s all these fucking documents to process…

If Chu Zihang weren’t there to help him, he’d probably have just resigned.
