Starting From the Dragon Tribe

Chapter 52: That’s just too corrupt!

Milana’s description of the Student Union was quite apt. It really looked like a Roman bath, and this entire space was written with two words—luxury and dissipation.

And the mastermind behind this scene just poked his head out from the pool of champagne, apparently just finishing a dive. In the reflection of the light against the “water” surface, his solid and conspicuous pectoral muscles looked like they were coated in gold.

Caesar turned around and saw that Lu Chen had arrived, greeting him with a smile. Though he did not say a word, it was obvious that it was a sign to “come down and play!”

In his past world, Lu Chen heard that western nobility were very extravagant. He had used his imagination to base it off of the nobility within his own country and thought it was a pretty good guess.

But today, he found out that there was no way he could even have begun to imagine the extravagance of rich aristocrats.

That’s just too corrupt!

Lu Chen shoved a piece of leg meat of a king crab just fished up from Hokkaido this morning into his mouth and thought harshly, so corrupt!

Finger was at his side, inhaling the contents on the table along with him. He used to be one of those who hovered around the groups of girls, but now his only love was good food, though as he was stuffing his face, he didn’t stop commenting on passing female classmates.

When Lu Chen eliminated all but one of the lobsters, an ancient hand and his both grabbed it at the same time.

Lu Chen raised his head; in front of him was an old man with flowery pants and a cowboy hat on his head. His beer belly was very striking.

“Heh, young people should be out there playing instead of fighting for food with old people,” the old man admonished.

“Mister, it’s yours,” Lu Chen humbly gave way. The other tables still had lobsters, and he was extremely full anyway.

“Mm, not bad,” the old man nodded his head as he skillfully disassembled the lobster and shivered as he said, “You’re so young, but all you see with your eyes is food. Is the view not good here?” He had a look of hatred and disdain.

“Huh?” Lu Chen froze and thought, who’s this geezer? Did Caesar invite his own grandpa to the party?

“This is the vice-principal…” Finger quietly remarked on the side.

Lu Chen immediately became serious. He had met Principal Anjou, who was a legendary Dragonslayer. Even he had to respect the strong. Though this old man had a “vice” to his title, he was still a principal nonetheless, so he had to be strong, right?

But after looking closely again at the old man, he saw that his arms were flabby, his beer belly was about to fall out, and that he was wearing a pair of oversized slippers. He was… completely different from Principal Anjou!

If one were to say that Principal Anjou were like a handsome elderly gentleman, then this vice-principal would be like a village’s local drunken old pervert. Why would he be called an old pervert, you ask? Just look at the vice-principal’s thirsty gaze wander about at the girls and you’ll understand…

“Um… Hello, Vice-principal.” Lu Chen respectfully bowed his head. Never judge a book by a cover was a saying he understood clearly.

“Drop the ‘vice’ part. When that old bag Anjou finally dies, then the title will transfer to me,” Leonardo Flammel, otherwise known as the Night Watchman, our Lord Vice-principal, was visibly offended by the title.

Lu Chen froze and thought, did he really directly say that it’d be a good thing if Principal Anjou died?

“Don’t worry about it, Junior Brother, the Principal has never hidden his ambitions,” Finger said from the side, half a piece of lobster still dangling from his mouth. It was obvious that he was acquainted with the old man.

“Mm, well said,” the Night Watchman was very satisfied with Finger’s address, then walked away, his slippers making a pitter patter noise on the wet ground. On the way, he grabbed a bottle of champagne as he expertly climbed onto the lifeguard station ladder. It was his exclusive viewing spot.

“Caesar… invited… the principal to be the lifeguard?” Lu Chen said, shocked, then thought, all these hybrids, even if they didn’t know how to swim, it’d be already, no?

“Oh, the pool has always been managed by the Principal. Caesar can’t bypass him if he wants to hold this event. That old fart likes to ogle at the young and beautiful junior sisters. He’s also the head judge in Cassell College’s annual beauty pageant,” said Finger as he coughed twice, evidently choking on something.

“don’t underestimate the… Principal. He is the Night Watchman, after all. His Kotodama: Commandment, encompasses the entire campus and is the reason why we can’t use our Kotodama. And also, he’s still the world’s greatest alchemy master even now. Your Red Maple is pretty good, but he can also forge that, possibly even better.”

Finger’s words made Lu Chen internally remark that you really can’t judge a book by its cover. He asked, “Then he must craft many alchemic weapons for the college every year?”

Upon hearing this, Finger stiffened. he pulled Lu Chen to the side and whispered, “Vice… principal is actually a deadbeat. He usually just stays in the clock tower, watching random films and drinking all day, never working at all. Most of the weapons in the school’s Ice Cellar are collected from outside.”

Lu Chen looked up the vice-principal, who was busy enjoying his alcohol up there, and thought that if Cassell College were a company, then its benefits were too good. The vice-president didn’t have to work and could use school funds to eat and play all day.

But I heard that the principal used to travel around the world. Now that I think about it, the principal doesn’t participate in killing dragons?

An hour later, Lu chen still did not try the pool. It wasn’t that he was afraid of water, but that he thought it would be a hassle to wash off the champagne later.

During that period, he also played dice with Lutecia, and the loser had to drink. Under the premise that he didn’t cheat, he always lost very badly, leading his senior sister to make fun of him.

Other people, be they senior brothers or sisters, also joined in. Everyone lost some and won some, but only he kept on losing.

He was perplexed, was his luck really that bad?

His attribute menu said that his Luck stat was 2, but the system didn’t say how much the average was. Was he just super unlucky?

The crowd praised the S-grade’s alcohol tolerance, until even Lu Chen himself felt like he couldn’t drink anymore, and some indecent girl took advantage of the situation and proposed that those who lost didn’t have to drink, but had to take off a piece of clothing.

The atmosphere of the place reached a climax. the whole field erupted in cheers.

The corners of Lu Chen’s mouth twitched. This is a fucking pool party. I only wore swim trunks. If I take them off, then I’ll get taken away by the discipline committee or end up on tomorrow’s headlines.

At last, he excused himself out of the game. It just so happened that Caesar got out of the pool, so he went to go chat with the Union president, and everyone else dispersed.

“Whew—” Lu Chen and Caesar sat on recliners next to each other, puffing out clouds of smoke.

“How is it, you having a good time?”

“Not bad, it’s just that my stomach’s a bit full.” Lu Chen touched his stomach.

“Haha, looks like you ate a lot.”

“No, but I did drink a bit too much.” Lu Chen made a mental note to never play another drinking game. Now that he thought about it, back in the military camp of his previous life, he also kept losing.

“I heard that under your leadership, the Lionheart Society has been very active recently. I thought the words you spoke were right. The glory of us hybrids comes not from squabbling with each other, but is forged with dragon blood on the battlefield,” Caesar put out his cigar and professed.

“I just said some random stuff,” Lu Chen was a bit embarrassed. What he said that day was a bit belittling to Caesar.

“I’m not the type of person to care about that. I also applied to be an intern at the Execution Bureau, but I was rejected. It was the workings of those geezers in my family, but next time I’ll make sure it gets through,” Caesar smiled, then turned to look at Lu Chen, “Let’s go on a mission together sometime.”

“Sure.” Lu Chen didn’t see a reason to refuse.
