Chapter 462 - Flames And Rubble
Inside the burning Bosque palace, the suffocating black smoke covered the vision of two individuals. These two individuals were at a standstill, this was the perfect time to break away and escape!
But neither took this opportunity.
W who inhabited Brennan Bosque’s body could see and sense the blood of the Volcan Emperor. Mite could not escape without W catching wind of it. That said, Mite Volcan had no reason or intention to escape. The one at a disadvantage was W.
Fighting Mite and winning was not impossible, the chances were simply lower than half. Those weren’t favorable odds and W was not a fan of gambling.
“So, do I need to torture you?” Mite repeated with indifference.
W remained silent. Saying no implied giving up Brennan’s claim to the Bosque throne. As W was not on good terms with Brennan, doing so would leave him no way to appease the previous king.
‘But I do want the trade to happen…’ The information that W had on the blood element was fairly limited, at least when it came to theory. Still, just because he didn’t know specifics, it didn’t mean the basic information he had was worthless.
To clarify, this information was worthless and simple to W but not others. For Mite, it was the difference between having an undead army and an army of near-invincible warriors. While both were strong, one was clearly better.
Plus, the near-invincible warriors could always be turned into the undead in the event that they did die. For the emperor, there was nothing to lose and much to gain.
…Assuming Brennan willingly gave up on holding any power in his kingdom. Otherwise, the possibility of losing existed as long as the royal bloodline also existed.
“I guess I am being a bit unreasonable, I’ll allow you to help me manage this part of the empire if you answer quickly” Mite said giving his final offering. While he sounded amicable on the surface, he was truthfully irritated.
He didn’t want to waste any more time at Pith. His army was still breaking havoc in the city and they needed to be put under control before they left nothing but rubble.
“I…” After a while, Brennan, finally began to respond.
“I refuse” Was what W said firmly using Brennan’s body.
The whole point of using Brennan’s body was to maintain its status. If he lost most privileges Brennan had then W was better off killing Brennan for knowing too much and finding someone new.
“I see, a pity” Mite said before manipulating the flames in the palace to converge at his position This move removed all pretense of amiability. Their battle was starting again!
W narrowed his eyes, the heat accumulating in the room was suffocating. Fortunately, one of the benefits of absorbing fire dragon blood was the ability to regulate body temperature!
Hot and cold were in essence the same thing. That was because heat was just energy, the cold was the absence of this energy. For a fire dragon, manipulating heat was just a matter of tapping into their natural born insticts. That wasn’t to say other dragons couldn’t regulate their body temperature, it was simply far more logical for a fire dragon to be capable of doing it.
The poiint was, W had absorbed a fire dragon’s blood alongside Bloody, some of these natural insticts were thus endowed to them.
Being able to withstand the heat in the room was different from being able to withstand Mite’s attack. Even so, W was not panicking. His chances were not zero, it was just a matter of playing his cards right.
“A pity indeed!” W shouted before reinforcing is body and smashing down on the ground. This was the second floor bursting impact this room had suffered and it showed.
The ground underneath Mite’s feet began to falter as W fell to the floor beneath.
One of W’s benefits over Mite was being able to see and sense his presence at all times. While Mite could figure out where he was located, it would never be instant or insanely accurate.
W thus saw it fitting to run elsewhere to regain his advantage over Mite. He could become like the assassins that tried to kill him before and take shots at Mite from the shadows, or more accurately the flames and rubble.
Mite was not entirely unaware of W’s intention, nevertheless he dropped onto the unsteady floor beneath him out of his own volition, he didn’t show a single shred of fright. The red orange flames that inundated this lower floor was almost comforting for him.
Mite reached out his palm, there was a ball of flame. It pulsed erratically, it was odd and hard to miss. It shone brightly but for Mite, it wasn’t bright enough.
The flames near Mite in this floor also began to gently flow towards his palm. The flame all started to revolve around the ball but the ball did not grow in size, it was almost as if the flames were consumed.
W did not know what exactly Mite was doing but it couldn’t be good! He suddenly threw something from his hiding spot. A half melted sword darted its way towards Mite who noticed its approach through the flames. ρꪖꪕᦔꪖꪕꪫꪣꫀꪶ
“This is my domain” Mite said before the floor beneath the sword exploded sending the piece of melted metal off into who knew where.
There was a reason Mite never left the burning building and that was because it was almost a natural habitat.
With flames readily available, Mite could conserve mana when casting. There were more benefits but they mainly involved Mite’s natural resistance to fire. Unfortunately for Mite, W in Brennan’s body was also quite a bit resistant to the flames of the palace.
“So die!” Mite added before making a crushing motion with his free palm. The area from whence the blade came suddenly began to burn more fervently. After this extremely heated state came an explosion.
‘Argh!’ W’s body was hit even from his hiding spot, the explosion caused a series of soft rumble and collapses so it made sense he was still hurt. Truthfully, the fire stung but W was not discouraged, he was equipped with a cold armor. To be precise, he was equipped with armor of his own cold blood.
Since his blood manipulation moved too slowly the armor had many gaps, nevertheless it kept Brennan’s body very cool.
As for W’s next move… it was charging in! Mite saw a hazy figure flying towards him through the smoke. He only had one thought… explode!
The moment Mite stretched out his hand the figure exploded. There was no crushing motion this time, it was instant.
“Huh…!?” Mite was taken aback when he noticed two more figures continuing to fly at him from almost separate directions. What was going on!?
Mite nevertheless made sure to blow them to bits. He could tell something was wrong but he wasn’t sure what or how to deal with it. For a moment, Mite considered hiding too, but the small spiraling ball of flame he created was a source of confidence.
W was simply manipulating his own blood to make flat human silhouettes and sending them darting towards Mite. This all had the end goal of making Mite doubt his own senses. He could no longer truly tell where W would be coming at him from.
“Urgh!” Mite also had no way to know where W’s attacks were coming from. A bloody dagger had found its way to his leg. At this point the swirling ball of flames he still maintained seemed entirely pointless.
Mite decided to quickly retaliate, the general vicinity from which the dagger came was filled with bursts of fire. The explosions were full of deadly shrapnel causing W to grimace at the mere thought of being hit by one of the explosions.
Unfortunately for Mite, W actually snuck to a floor underneath him after the first series of explosions. He would just make holes to go up and down where necessary. Another unfortunate thing for the emperor was how much he disregarded the dagger wound.
The thing was not just a bloody dagger, it was a Bloody dagger.
“Aaaargh!” Mite shouted before suddenly igniting into an unbelievably hot firestorm. It was just too bad that Bloody could simply become that much colder to resist the insanely hot temperatures Mite was forcing himself through.
Mite’s limbs started to feel numb and maintaining his clarity was feeling more and more like a chore. It was here when the concentrated ball of flame became much smaller.
Mite hurried to grab a small dagger from his body. He could feel Bloody running up his body from the place of the initial wound. Without hesitation, Mite suddenly cut open his chest.
Blood spurted but it was impossible to notice such a detail. The much smaller concentrated ball of flame was blindingly bright as it entered the cut Mite just made. This boiled Mite’s exposed parts but it also boiled and incinerated whatever foreign substance was in him.
‘What the hell!? He can do that!?’ W who witnessed a part of Bloody being incinerated through his blood sense was utterly dumbfounded.
“…That’s enough of this!” Mite declared haggardly. The ball of flames was a source of confidence for one very important reason… it was a skill imparted onto him by his master, the fire dragon Pyre!
The ball which he had compressed promptly exited his body before the suppressed flames suddenly surged into a gigantic explosion. The explosion was both quick and unexpected, W was instantly engulfed by the flames.
It didn’t matter that he was on the floor below, W was given no time to react! The explosion of flame soon engulfed not just W, but the whole burning palace.
A giant ball of fire encased the entire palace grounds. By the time it was over, the palace crumbled and fell completely. There were no traces of its regal architecture anymore. There was just a bunch of ashes and debris in some places still burning brightly.
The brilliant sight was hard to miss, Pyre who was flying into the capital witnessed the event. He recognized the skill and feared for what his stupid disciple might have done.
“ROOOOAR!!!” Pyre let out a deafening call that announced his presence to everyone in the capital. He was alerting Mite of his return, the emperor had to be under the rubble waiting for him.
Pyre’s flight speed increased at the same time as his worried thoughts did. For every worried thought, Pyre would try to glide or flap faster. How could he let the emperor of his nation perish so easily!?
Pyre for the first time, felt a heavy burden being placed on him. How would he react if the worst case scenario came to pass? He didn’t know… and as a dragon he was not used to dealing with uncertainty.
