Chapter 663: Grit

Chapter 663: Grit

Max laid on the ground looking at the sky. His breathing was shallow, and he had begun to lose sensation all over his body.

‘Sh*t.. I still needed to slice that fellow’s head. I don’t think he is totally out of breath as well…’ He muttered inwardly while trying to move, but his body sure wasn’t responding to him.

‘F*ck!’

He was getting worried. If someone else came, and killed that fellow, what would the old man do?

Would he refuse to acknowledge it as his achievement?

There was a great chance that he would. After all, even Max was leeching off of the work of that Supreme. If not for that old man from Yule Family, he wouldn’t even be able to do what he did. In that situation, it was entirely fair for Old Progenitor to refuse, if someone else took over from Max’s position just like Max did from the Supreme.

‘Goddamn move..’ Max gathered all his willpower, and pushed himself to the limit before his fingers finally began to respond. But, it was only to that level.

‘My clone should be getting killed anytime soon as well. Am I going to lose it here, after coming this close..’ He really felt depressed. He had to think of something. This wasn’t over yet. He still had time.

[[August where are you?!!]]

[[I need your help!!]]

He immediately tried to contact the guy, but it didn’t seem like that August was in a situation to reply. And, it entirely made sense. There was no way that he was going to respond if he was in a fight. He might not even have noticed it.

Max suddenly heard footsteps coming closer to him, and there was a sound of blade accompanying it.

‘Not good!’ He knew that someone had noticed he was alive, and was coming to deliver a finishing blow to him.

“Whoosh!”

Max immediately opened up the portal, and three black shadows leaped out it.

Twice immediately opened its mouth and sent a terrifying breath attack with an intention to kill that fellow.

“Woah! When did Shadow Leopards begin to get this strong?!”

When Max heard that surprised voice, he immediately found it to be very familiar.

“Synthia?!”

“Huh?” Sytnthia, who was standing there with a sword in her hand, suddenly looked towards the guy lying there in surprise.

Her white dress was covered all in blood, and the same was true for her blade which was dripping down with blood. She was the first one to arrive here with her force. She was as aggressive as usual, and had pierced through the enemy line like a spear.

“Wait! Is that you?” Synthia took a step towards Max with surprise when Twice immediately growled at her.

It looked at Synthia and then at her sword, as if it was asking her to keep it back in the scabbard.

“This guy is intelligent..” Synthia couldn’t help, but look at the beast in surprise. Hell, even she was offered a beast by her family. But, beast’s usually took time to grow and hence, she hadn’t brought it along with her.

But this fellows were definitely strong and intelligent. But, what surprised her the most was that Max actually had three of them, and all three looked to have mutated. Just what kind of sorcery was this.

Anyway, she didn’t have time to find his secrets right now when the guy looked to be on his deathbed.

She kept her sword back in her scabbard and then looked at Twice as if saying ‘look, I did it..’

Twice finally took a step back, but remained near Max, while the other two surrounded Synthia from the two sides. If she had any funny ideas, they were definitely going chew her head off.

“Why do I feel they don’t like me?” She muttered with an odd look on her face. Tamed beasts usually didn’t show this much hostility when meeting people who were acquainted with their owners for the first time.

She obviously had no idea that these beasts were already aware of the fact that she had some kind of feud with Max. This information was provided to them by Andriel who had asked them to go out and protect Max and not let their guard down across this lady.

“What happened to you? And, why are you here instead of the base?” She asked, looking at him in surprise.

‘Ah…can’t believe he got beaten this badly with so many people protecting him as well. Is this guy really the one who beat me up?’

‘I really seemed to have embarrassed myself..’ She muttered inwardly while looking at him

“I will answer you later, first help me stand up. I need to kill that guy over there before it’s too late.” Max muttered with difficulty, and even puked out blood in the process.

Synthia turned her head to see who he was talking about, and her eyes immediately widened. Even though that guy over there was badly mutilated, and was dying, she still could tell from the residual energy around him that he was a Grandmaster Tier Mage.

“Wait, you are telling me that you fought that thing?” She turned her head towards Max with a blank look.

She knew that no order had been made to any Grandmaster Tier Mage as of now. After all, any order to a person at that level was supposed to be informed to all the people commanding forces. It was to let them know to act in restraint and not pick a full on fight with a very strong opponent as their own strong expert was busy at the current moment.

And, she definitely hadn’t heard any information regarding that as of yet..

‘Don’t tell me…but, how is that possible..’

“What are you doing? It’s a command, help me up.”

It wasn’t Max’s style, but he had no option but to try everything that he could do for Lear.

“You don’t look like you’re in a condition to move. It will be better if you leave it to me.” She said looking at him trying to get up. He barely seemed to be breathing, yet god knew how he was desperately trying to push himself up.

“NO! It has to be me!” Max suddenly clenched his fist, and pushed himself up even with blood rushing out of his mouth and wounds on his body.
