Chapter 672: A Complex Situation
Chapter 672: A Complex Situation
“You are here?” Max turned his head to look at Naze who had just come out onto the terrace.
“Well, it’s been pretty noisy below,” Naze replied with a calm look on his face as he came and took a seat beside on the railing.
“How are you feeling?” Max asked with a calm look on his face.
“Half dead.” Naze casually replied.
“That’s better than dead at least.” Max shook his head with a smile on his face.
“The fight really took a turn too quickly.” Naze shook his head with a depressed look on his face.
“You are upset that we won?” Max asked, looking at him.
“No, but…leave it be…..you won’t understand..” The guy shook his head.
“Why wouldn’t I?” Max asked him with raised brows.
“Let’s go talk over a walk. I feel a bit too cramped up after sleeping in the bed for the whole day.” Naze suddenly changed his position from sitting to standing.
“Are you sure about it? I don’t want to rush you back here if your injuries worsen, and you begin to die again.” Max wasn’t sure if this fellow was really alright or not.
Max had infinite vitality so he knew that nothing would happen to him. But, he couldn’t be sure for Naze.
“Don’t worry, I won’t blame you for my death,” Naze said with a smile as he jumped off of the railing.
Max looked at him, and shook his head. He then leaned his body and slid down as well diving off of the terrace.
The two came down crashing towards the ground.
Max was interested to see how this fellow would land on the ground. But, his face twitched when he saw him just raising his hand, and looking towards him with a smile.
He clearly was asking for help.
Max shook his head. He then unfurled his wings and pushed himself below. He slowly stretched out his hand and grabbed the fellows hand. He then took to the sky before calmly landing in a deserted place.
…
“That was fun..” Naze smiled looking at the sky. “Should we do it one more time?”
“Do you think of me as your servant? If you want to have a fun ride, go to the amusement park.” Max snorted at him.
“You really are a jerk. You won’t even do that much for me when I put my life on the line and went through your reckless plan.” Naze sighed, looking heart broken.
Max’s face twitched, and he glared at him, “Stop acting..”
“Tsk…you really are no fun..” Naze shook his head as he took the lead and began to walk.
“Where are we going?” Max asked as he looked at him.
“I rented a place out in the city. It’s calm there, and I am sure you would like it to.” Naze muttered with a pleased look on his face.
He then led Max to one of the rundown districts in Trinity which really lacked surveillance over all. This was the kind of place where crime bred.
“Calm my ass..” Mx muttered as he looked around. There were drunkards screaming around. People kept glaring at them for no reason. And, to be honest all of them looked like thugs, and hell some were even carrying knives with them.
It sure was anything but calm.
“We are here..” Naze looked at Max, and then pointed towards a small alley.
Max turned his head a bit, and saw there were several doors on both sides of the alley. It looked like some kind of renting quarters.
“This one is mine..” Naze brought his key out, and opened the second door.
Max was honestly surprised by the interior. It wasn’t bad actually. This place could certainly be used for living. It sure was very different from the lackluster look from outside.
The inside had a pleasing decoration. There were two rooms and one washroom. It was a small place, but the arrangement of the things were in such a good manner that you wouldn’t feel congested in this place at all.
“What do you think?”
“Well, it’s nice.” Max replied with a nod.
“Knock!”
“Knock!”
At this moment, a knock sounded on the door.
Max turned his head to look at Naze.
He was wondering if this was just a coincidence.
“Don’t look at me like this. I don’t know what’s going on, ok…” Naze could immediately sense Max’s gaze on him. And, he could easily guess his thoughts as well.
“Let me do one thing, I will call the person in. That way you would have no reason to fear that I will block the entrance.” He further suggested to prove his innocence.
Max just stared at the guy. He wasn’t sure if Naze had something planned or not, but he certainly wasn’t planning to let his guard down.
“Come inside..” Naze spoke looking towards the door.
As soon as his words rang out, a little figure came in through the door.
When Max looked at the child, his face immediately turned grim.
It was because he could feel a little trace of demonic energy from the kid. This child was a demon. This was Max’s first time coming across a Demon child.
“There is a message from headquarters.” The kid looked at Naze with a sweet smile as he spoke. He then searched for an envelope in his bag, and passed it onto Naze.
Max turned his head to look at Naze.
He certainly was interested in this situation here.
Naze too didn’t hide the messsage.
‘Assassinate Max Edwinson’
There were three letters inside it.
Max’s expression immediately changed. This wasn’t something that he was going to appreciate. His dagger immediately slid into his hand, he prepared himself for the worst.
Black threads suddenly appeared all around Naze, and in an instant, the little kid was tied by it.
“Mmh!!”
“Hmmn mehhoo!!””
He began to struggle but there was no way that it was going to work.
“Don’t worry, I am not on their side.” Naze muttered as he looked at Max with a clam look on his face.
“You sure don’t sound convincing.” Max shook his head as he tightened his grip on the dagger. And, the situation in the room immediately became tense.
“I am just a spy on their side.” Naze shook his head. “I put my life on line for you, did you forget it?”
“You only make yourself more suspicious this way.” Max didn’t know if he should laugh at this or not.
“What do you want me do in order to prove my innocence?” Naze asked with a sigh.
“I don’t know. How about you try convincing me?” Max asked with a shrug. He didn’t think there was anything in this situation that could convince him. He was, after all, not in his best condition, and that would only make his guard go further up.
“Hmmn..let me think then.” Naze stood there pondering what to do.
“Mnn!”
“Hmmn!!”
The kid wrapped up in black threads continued to release squeaks as he struggled there.
“Shut up..” Naze kicked the kid, a bit irritated.
His action immediately put a frown on Max’s face.
“I get it!” Naze shouted as he looked at Max with a smile, “How about I kill this Demon Kid? I think that should be enough reassurance for now. I can later ask someone from the Von House to make things clear.”
Max looked at the kid who was staring back at him with horror in his eyes.
This immediately deepened the frown on Max’s face. He had never been in this situation.
He knew that the Demon’s had civilization like humans, and it obviously meant that they also had children, elderly etc.
“Blame your unlucky star kid..” Naze slowly walked towards the kid with a smile on his face. “It was your fault that you were born as a Demon..”
“Mmmmnnn!!!” The Kid began to struggle frantically. And, tears began to pour out of his eyes.
“Poor fellow, they only had the job to act as messengers. But, to think that his end would come like this.” Naze shook his head as he raised his hand, covering it with his energy in form of a sharp blade.
The Kid wasn’t even the equivalent of a Mage. He was just a normal kid. There was no need for anything fancy. Even a normal slap from them could possibly kill the kid.
“Die!”
Naze brought his hand down, and as it was about to slice the little fellow into two, a palm suddenly caught his wrist.
“Grip!”
“You don’t need me to prove my innocence?” Naze calmly asked as he turned his head to look at Max.
“I get what you are trying to do,” Max replied with a calm look on his face.
He knew this guy wasn’t a fool.
There were certainly many ways to approach this situation.
Not to mention, Max didn’t think all of this was a mere coincidence.
This guy was clearly trying to play mind games with him, and install an idea in his mind. It was something that Max once had thought as well.
Just like all humans were not good people, it was possible that all Demons were not bad as well.
In this case, it was this little guy.
After all, a child was a child.
He would do as said.
Could you really blame him for something?
If you can’t then, wasn’t he innocent?
Was it right to kill an innocent fellow?
Definitely not.
Max finally let go of Naze’s hand, and then went back to take a seat on the chair.
“Do you want me to kill him or not?” Naze asked with a frown.
“No more games, I get what you are trying to do. But, this is a war. If you can’t bring any benefits, but only philosophy to the table, it won’t work.” Max shook his head.
“I am sure we can give you enough benefits.” A feminine voice sounded as a person appeared in the room.
