Jay ordered the makeup artist to remove all the makeup that Lily had applied on Maisy’s face.
The man slowly sat down on the authentic leather armchair and crossed his arms. Despite being seated, he still exerted the same pressure as an alpha, forcing Lily to lower her head to avoid meeting his gaze.
“You are fired,” Jay coldly announced.
The color drained from Lily’s face almost immediately. She couldn’t believe that her boss would just fire her over such a small matter after working diligently for him for the past six years.
“Mr. Hamilton, I…”
“Are you making me repeat myself?” Jay challenged.
Jay’s cold stare was the epitome of danger. Anyone met with his gaze would shudder in fear. That was what Lily felt at that moment, causing her to shut her mouth and leave with a grunt.
“Edward. I want a full makeover. You know what I mean, right?” Jay requested.
Edward nodded. He picked the foundation up but didn’t know where to start as Maisy’s skin was pale and smooth. Perhaps because her life had gotten better recently, he could even see a slight pinkish on her cheek.
To apply chemical makeup on such a perfect face would be an insult to the owner of the face.
In the end, Edward only applied the slightest amount of makeup on Maisy’s face and did her hair. After changing into the evening dress, Maisy was like a completely different person.
When she walked out of the changing room, she had a faint smile on her face. Jay was shocked at first. It took him quite a few seconds to notice that the lady he was staring at was none other than Maisy.
Edward made use of how innocent Maisy looked and chose a dress with slight cleavage that showed a little of her breasts. The slightly revealing dress and her innocent face had formed a huge contrast.
“Change the dress. It doesn’t look good on her,” Jay said in a cold tone.
Edward couldn’t go against the man’s wishes. Even though he still thought that the first dress was perfect for Maisy, he had to choose another dress for her. This time, she changed into a dress that completely covered her chest, but the perfect fit of the dress still showed off her curves.
As it was already late and there was no more time for her to change into another dress, Jay had no choice but to accept the choice and leave with Maisy.
As both of them sat in the back seat, Maisy’s heart was starting to race. This was her first time attending a party, so it was normal for her to be nervous.
However, when they arrived, she soon learned that no one had paid any attention to the lady that came with Jay. Everyone had their focus on the one who was leading the business circle.
It didn’t take long for Maisy to be sidelined and separated from Jay as the man was quickly surrounded by ladies from rich families. The girls who were trying to flirt with the man were elegant and had exquisite tastes while Maisy was nothing more than the ugly little duckling who was able to shine a little with Jay’s help.
Maisy took a sip from the glass of champagne in her hand and frowned at the bitter taste, which complimented the bitter feeling in her heart.
She set the glass down by a table and noticed that the rear door led to a balcony that had a view of the garden. Although it was already nighttime and there was no moonlight, the garden was fairly lit by the lights in the party hall, making the plants seem like they were shrouded in gold.
Maisy walked to the balcony and rested her hands on the railings while admiring the view of the garden from there.
The flowers had bloomed beautifully and were full of life, unlike herself.
“Milady, is something troubling you?” Collin Marks approached the troubled-looking lady with a smile.
Maisy looked at the man, who was now on the balcony with her. He was also good-looking, but unlike Jay, he had more of a scholar-looking vibe. His movement was elegant, and he had a glass of red wine in his hand.
“You are?” Maisy asked curiously.
Collin did not introduce himself. “I’m just a man who sees a dejected lady and wants to help,” Collin answered with the same gentle smile still on his face.
He slowly approached her and rested his hand closely next to hers.
Maisy moved to the side a little, seemingly uncomfortable by the man’s action. She couldn’t help but find the man weird.
“I’m not dejected. Please leave me alone,” Maisy said.
However, Collin didn’t leave even after being asked to. He turned to look at the garden instead..
