Chapter 26 - Won't Be Lenient
Chapter 26 – Won’t Be Lenient
Lin Xiaofei paused, her hand stayed mid-air as she turned her head to look at them with a bright smile on her face.
"What's with all of you?" she asked and raised an eyebrow to them, "You guys are too anxious."
Lin Xiaofei stared at them. Her words seemed to imply something else and the other three people around her twitched as they knew their actions were too suspicious that anyone would raise a questioning look at them.
Wu Jing Yan bit her lip and said, "Fourth Miss, the thing you're about to touch is a corpse."
Lin Xiaofei gave her a smile, "What is First Aunt saying? Of course, I can see that what I was about to touch is a corpse."
"Then, why is Fourth Miss doing this? It's not good for a young lady such as yourself to touch it." Son Yan Yi supported Wu Jing Yan.
After saying so, Wu Jing Yan looked at Song Yan Yi with a smile as if she was grateful for the assistance and waited for the chance to humiliate Lin Xiaofei..
Although their plan was already found out by Lin Xiaomeng, that didn't mean they would stop and not let rumors spread across the capital to dirty Lin Xiaofei's name.
They knew that they could no longer physically harm Lin Xiaofei but according to Lin Xiaofei's personality, she wouldn't be too wilful and arrogant once rumors of her suggesting to kill a vile intruder and touch a corpse would throw her into another endless trouble that would certainly make Lin Xiaofei not to come out for the rest of her life.
It didn't matter whether Lin Xiaofei suggested killing a vile intruder or a flower thief because they wanted to harm her. Everyone would still look at her with disgust and disdain once they see her since there was no young noble lady who would be so ruthless and evil to suggest this kind of punishment.
Anyway, even if Lin Xiaofei tries to choose between letting everyone know of the truth or let the rumors spread across the capital, her name would be used in everyone's jokes and she would have no place to show her face.
Lin Xiaofei sighed and calmly looked at the two madams in front of her.
Wu Jing Yan was quite famous in the capital for being such a filial daughter and loyal wife. Lin Feng, the first son of Lin Xiaomeng was a scholar who has a good position in the imperial court and was trusted by his fellow ranked officials.
And unlike his younger brother, Lin Sang who only relies on his father's fame, Lin Feng had the skills to back him, up whenever there was a debate or suggesting a solution to the emperor.
However, there was no way a man so outstandingly like Lin Feng wouldn't have a few wives in his inner courtyard.
Having a few wives and concubines in the inner courtyard was treated normally for more than a century and it was a practice that some men indulged in. At first, the practice to marry more than one wife was frowned upon, however, this changed when some wives couldn't bear a child in their wombs thus, the practice of marrying a few more wives to have more children was soon accepted and became a norm.
But Lin Feng didn't marry the other wives he had because Wu Jing Yan couldn't bear him a child. On the contrary, First Madam bore him two sons already, but because the lust to acquire a fresher and younger woman plagued most married men, Lin Feng married a few women to take inside his inner courtyard.
On the other hand, Song Yan Yi was the only wife of Lin Sang, and their relationship as husband and wife was never bad.
Two madams with different situations, Lin Xiaofei wondered how they became close to each other than they even treat each other like blooded sisters.
However, how could Lin Xiaofei not know what they were thinking? They wanted her to dig her grave by herself and choose either of the options they threw to her; to sell the truth to the world or to let the rumors be.
Unfortunately, Lin Xiaofei was never going to choose any of the two.
Smiling slightly, Lin Xiaofei said, "Second madam is right. Since I'm a young lady, I shouldn't touch it."
Wu Jing Yan and Song Yan Yi sighed inwardly, however, they couldn't bring themselves to smile after hearing Lin Xiaofei speak more.
"I heard that old people shouldn't touch a dead body since the spiritual energy of the dead would affect them negatively." Frowning like a child that has no idea what to choose from an apple candy or biscuit, she said, "What should we do, Steward Liu can't touch it since he's already old."
Not waiting for them to say a word, Lin Xiaofei continued, "What about this… Both Madams are younger than Steward Liu but older than me. Why don't the two of you touch it then?"
Her face was bright as she looked at them like she had just found a treasure in front of her. However, her words were too scary and without rhyme and reason, she wanted to make the two madams touch a corpse.
Both two madams were stunned and paled at Lin Xiaofei's words. They couldn't utter a word since they were too shocked at her sudden suggestion.
Vicious!
This female is too vicious!
She might as well just tell us to carry the corpse and be done with it since their plans failed!
They cursed Lin Xiaofei inside their hearts.
Seeing their ashen faces, Lin Xiaofei laughed before saying, "What's with your faces? You all looked like you swallowed ten needles."
She looked at the corpse near her and coldly swept her eyes on it before turning around to walk away from it.
Lin Xiaofei distanced herself from the corpse and strode toward the entrance of the Western Courtyard with a plan to leave things for now.
And when she was about to walk past the two madams who stayed silent and stood rooted in their places, she said, "Next time, I won't be too lenient."
The two madams watched Lin Xiaofei slowly and gracefully walked out from the Western Courtyard like it was her own courtyard.
They couldn't point out whether Lin Xiaofei said those words to the dead Ke Song or to personally warn them that she won't be lenient when dealing with them.
But those words she spoke, it gave the people left in the Western Courtyard a round of nightmares to envision tonight.
