Chapter 665: The Last Guardian
Chapter 665: The Last Guardian
The Monkey King raised the gigantic wooden club into the air as more than ten different words of power light up in succession before bringing it down onto the ground.
*BOOOOOM*
*BOOOOOM*
*BOOOOOM*
Each strike connected with the ground one after the other without pausing. The earth shook and then cracked, bursting at the seams from where the club landed. The deadly force behind each of the strikes was at least equivalent to that of several megatons, creating discernable shockwaves. (Energy behind 1 Megaton= 1 Million tons of TNT)
The entire area within fifty kilometers of them resembled a post-apocalyptic wasteland. No single spot of land was left in one piece. Everything was turned to smithereens including all the creatures that were too slow to make it out of the area of effect.
Those that were lucky died at the very beginning. But some of the stronger ones that managed to survive the initial shockwave were rendered helpless and then buried alive under the constantly stirring masses of earth.
Shockwaves that were strong enough to turn a normal Spirit Realm cultivator into a puddle of blood and guts shot towards the young man but as soon as they got within three meters of him, a red-colored barrier resembling an egg made of liquid fire appeared around him and stopped everything in its tracks.
Or rather, it would more appropriate to say that it 'burned' everything before it could even touch the young man's sleeve. Whether it was the intense energy shockwaves, the stomach-churning screeches, or the rocks, trees, and the other debris flying towards him, everything simply evaporated upon coming into contact with the flame undulating flaming barrier.
The young man silently watched the monkey king turn the world upside down without making a move. His devilishly handsome visage reflected in the shimmering blue and red flames, in complete contrast to the 'vicious' glimpses of the monkey king.
Inside the egg-shaped barrier, it was deathly silent. Not even the sound of his own breath could be heard here. Unperturbed and unfazed by what was happening outside the barrier, he continued to watch the Monkey King lay waste to every living thing.
By the time he came to a stop, it looked like someone had taken a giant rake and leveled the area within 50-70 kilometers of them. The only spot left untouched was the three-meter area still within the barrier.
The Monkey King's body became smaller, from the previous 7 meters to just over 5 now. The purple jewel embedded within his forehead had shrunk to half its size as well. His chest heaved up and down as he stared daggers at the young man.
When he was sure the Monkey King would not use that attack again, the young man waved his hand and the barrier cracked and disappeared.
"Are you done?" he asked emotionlessly.
The Monkey King's expression became even more livid, as if that was even possible.
*Eeek*Eek*Eek*
He screeched while swinging the club back and forth with some effort.
The young man shook his head once, "The weak eat the strong. It is our one and only law. How can you be so angry over something like that?"
The Monkey King pointed towards a three-meter long charred corpse behind the young man and screeched again. The young man turned around to see what he was pointing at, his brow knitting tightly upon seeing the corpse.
"Your child? You are mad because I killed your child?" he confirmed.
The Monkey King grit his serrated teeth with such force that it could be heard from hundreds of meters away.
*Eek*Eeek*
The young man suddenly burst into laughter as if he had heard something ridiculous.
"You...want ME to 'compensate' you? YOU? A mongrel with a decayed bloodline dares order me around? I truly have seen everything! Hahaha!"
The Monkey King raised the club once again, this time with both his hands. Close to fifteen words of power lit up along its length, brimming with deadly energy. But before he could bring it down he noticed that the young man had disappeared from his previous spot.
He started looking around until he noticed the surroundings becoming brighter, at which point he raised his head.
The young man was floating some 40 meters above him. When he saw the Monkey King looking in his direction he snorted, "Yes, this is how it should be. You should be looking up at me...in your last moments."
He opened both his arms while closing his eyes, mumbling under his breath, "Blood Arts: The Flame of Rebirth!"
And for an instant, just a hundredth of a second, the Monkey King saw a transparent silhouette encompassing the young man. It was of a bird, completely red in color. A crest of golden feathers adorned its mighty head exuding a seven-colored light. It looked in his direction and opened its beak.
An ear-piercing cry resonated within the Monkey King's mind before his vision was overtaken by the color red.
*WHOOOOSH*
The Monkey King's entire body burst into flames from just a momentary glance at the bird's silhouette. He didn't even have time to cry out before all that was left him was a small pile of white ash.
The young man landed, walked up to the pile and took out the purple jewel that was still undamaged.
The sounds of ruffling clothes came from behind him and two silhouettes landed a moment later. One of them was a young lady with blue hair, and the other was someone quite familiar to Hao Xuan, Henrik Biric.
They bowed lightly from the waist in unison, "Lord Third Guardian!"
