Chapter 876: Flame on
Chapter 876: Flame on
Hao Xuan's feet never stopped moving for even a second. He pushed and pulled but was never still.
In the dark, his vision was hampered like everyone else but not enough to actually have any significant effect on him. He would slip in and out of the smallest of blindspots without making a single sound which left the beasts quite disconcerted.
It wasn't like fighting a normal human enemy for them. He didn't stand his ground and take on blows unnecessarily while trying to distance himself from the beasts just enough to be at a comfortable range to make full use of his stupendously long weapon.
Instead, he pushed forward with every step, even when he didn't have to. His superhuman reflexes were put to test in this environment where he was surrounded from every possible direction.
But this did not deter him in the slightest.
Hao Xuan found a short moment of respite and looked behind him towards the Warders to see how they were faring. The result left him quite satisfied.
No wonder they were psychic, it showed clearly from their movements. They didn't utter a single word yet their movements were in complete harmony with one another.
One of them swung left, allowing the weight of his weapon and the momentum of his strike to carry him forward while the second Orc came from behind and swung to the right in the same manner.
The third Orc lunged forward in the recently vacated spot and swung the great axe down, allowing his body to freely rotate along with it like a pinwheel.
By then the first Orc had come around just enough to use his telekinetic abilities on the fourth Orc, pulling him in and sending him flying horizontally with his great axe extended forward.
They were a well-oiled machine. Swift, powerful and ruthless in their execution. If one of them looked like he was about to be overrun then the others would use their own telekinetic abilities to either push the beasts away or pull the Orc towards them.
Small blasts of powerful psychic energy erupted every few seconds around the Orcs. Were any beasts slow enough to get caught in their radius, all that would remain of them would be a rain of flesh and bone.
And because of that they kind of reminded Hao Xuan of the warriors from a famous franchise that used "the force".
He could see they were still adjusting their movements every now and then and because of a lack of experience there were certain things they didn't see coming, but other than that they were beyond reproach.
A small black claw came out from the darkness and tore a small chunk of flesh from Hao Xuan's thigh. He redirected his attention towards the creature that held an appearance of a koala from earth but at three times the size and with sharpened spikes all along its back.
Its eyes glowed yellow in the darkness which caught Hao Xuan's attention.
Another claw came from its direction which Hao Xuan managed to avoid by the skin of his teeth. But by the time he looked back towards the creature, it had already blended within the ocean of beasts and could not be picked out anymore.
Hao Xuan narrowed his eyes as he started paying more attention to his blindspots. That beast wasn't weak. Not only was it extremely smart but had enough strength to easily harm his body, which wasn't an easy task.
His lips arched into a small smile as he changed his strategy.
"HNGH!"
Gripping the glaive from the edge of the blade like a machete and using nothing but raw strength and technique, he managed to swing it around in the extremely tight space.
His strikes weren't that far-reaching but they were still powerful and cut deep.
But just then another claw came from below his feet, aiming for the spot between his legs. Even Hao Xuan wasn't able to keep his composure in this position.
"AARGH!"
The Chaos Qi surrounding Hao Xuan's body burst forth like an erupting volcano. The air trembled for an instant and the surroundings became blurry before catching fire. A dark yellow flame was birthed from that interaction.
Hao Xuan's expression turned ugly as reached out and grabbed the flame with his bare hand and pulled back. Every spot the flame passed by went through the same changes until the atmosphere ignited and within the blink of an eye it had engulfed everything within a radius of 1.5 meters.
Hao Xuan poured even more chaos Qi into his hand and slid it across the length of the glaive.
The same dark yellow flame ejected above its surface, further lighting up the nearby surroundings.
Many of the beasts instantly lept back and tried to distance themselves from him but Hao Xuan chased after them. With the glaive in his right hand and the chaos flame on his left, everything it touched was set alight and no matter how much they tried, it could not be put out.
