Chapter 48 - 48 I'll Listen To My Sister
48 I’ll Listen To My Sister
He couldn’t say anything against his sister because their family was in need of money. His sister and brother were still studying, but he hadn’t found a job. If the burden of the family were placed on his parents, it would only wear them out faster.
Their parents also seemed much older than their peers. Bogged down all year round, they always did more than others and had an honest temperament, making them easy targets for schemers and bullies.
His sister was right. They couldn’t tolerate it any longer. His parents would grow old. He didn’t want their bodies to be destroyed when he had some achievements in the future. Now that his sister had the ability to make money, he certainly wouldn’t stop her.
Seeing that Xia Chen had listened to her, Xia Wan felt much more at ease.
The two of them arrived at a three-story house according to the address given by Zhou Tian. Only a select few could afford to build a three-story house these days. Xia Chen was immediately dumbfounded. He could not help but look at the house with envy.
“This house is really well-built. It’s spacious and bright, and the decoration is completely different from our village’s,” Xia Chen couldn’t help but sigh.
“If you want one, brother,” Xia Wan said with a smile, “I’ll give you one when I have money.”
Xia Wan was serious. She knew that men were interested in houses and cars. A house was the most secure existence. Without a house, they would always feel that they did not belong. Furthermore, they were now living with their grandma, who was usually prejudiced against them. They had to be very careful in their actions, or she would be quick to reprimand them.
Xia Chen thought Xia Wan was joking, so he smiled and said, “Sure, then I’ll wait for you to build me a house.”
Their conversation didn’t affect the progress much. Xia Wan went up and knocked on the door.
Soon, Zhou Tian came to open the door. He was very excited to see her arrive. “Xia Wan, you’re finally here!”
“How’s sister Xiao Rou doing?” Xia Wan nodded and asked.
“Thank God you saved Xiao Rou in time and stopped her from hurting herself,” Zhou Tian sighed in relief. “In the past, every time Xiao Rou’s illness acted up, she would hurt herself uncontrollably. I felt awful each time I saw that.”
“Sister Xiao Rou’s husband seems to adore her a lot,” Xia Wan said, feigning surprise. “Isn’t he here to help watch over her?”
Zhou Tian didn’t know that Xia Wan was testing him. He said, “He still has to work and is quite busy. Now that Rou is in poor health, he’ll be taking a break for a while. Rou used to be very busy, but now that they both have things to do, even my granddaughter Xinxin has to ask Rou’s best friend, Song Ya, to pick her up.”
Xia Wan nodded. “I see. I understand.”
She began to digest the information. It seemed that Rou had a stable job before she was struck with the illness. No thanks to that, she was now forced to take a long vacation.
At the same time, Xiao Rou also had a daughter named Li Xin and a good friend called Song Ya. Combined with what she already knew, Xiao Rou’s husband was called Li Yan.
Xiao Rou’s network of connections immediately appeared in Xia Wan’s mind.
Xia Wan had already deduced the poison in Xiao Rou’s body from her pulse. However, the person who could poison her must’ve been someone who had the opportunity to get close to her. Treating her was a small matter. What she needed to do was to catch the mastermind and let Zhou Tian and his daughter see the real person.
If that didn’t happen, she would save Xiao Rou this time, but the other party would harm her again.
“Then let’s go take a look,” Xia Wan said to Zhou Tian, careful not to raise suspicions.
Zhou Tian led Xia Wan into Xiao Rou’s room on the second floor. It was in a good location, and there was a large floor-to-ceiling window in the room, giving her a good view. The room was vast, almost as big as the place where Xia Wan and her family lived.
Xia Chen was surprised to see Xiao Rou’s room.
He had lived in the village before, and even if there were some differences between the villages, they weren’t that apparent. Now that he’d seen Xiao Rou’s room, Xia Chen realized the stark difference between a rich family and them. He would’ve never imagined it if he had not seen it with his own eyes.
At this moment, Xiao Rou was lying quietly on the bed. Her face was still a little pale, but it was obvious that she had stopped going crazy. On her face was a demure expression.
