Chapter 852: Reason!
Aakesh was looking at the fiend made of smoke when suddenly the fiend looked back at Aakesh.
Aakesh’s eyes turned blank for a moment as if his soul had left his body. Aakesh’s entire body had turned wet with sweat.
When the colors in his eyes came back, a grave expression that had never been seen before appeared.
When the two being’s eyes have clashed, Aakesh felt the same as others felt when they were in his presence. It was as if the fiend was a superior being, while Aakesh was nothing but a child waiting to get defeated.
If Aakesh didn’t have unlimited intelligence, his sea of consciousness would have exploded into smithereens, instantly killing him. Aakesh also had the system to protect him, but since his source of life wasn’t in danger, the system never intervened.
There was a hint of surprise in the fiend’s eyes when it saw Aakesh being perfectly fine. The next moment, a hideous grin adorned the creature’s face.
“Outsider, it’s great to see you.”
The next moment, a charming voice rang directly in Aakesh’s head. The fiend acted as if it hadn’t just almost killed Aakesh.
It wasn’t the fiend’s fault since it was Level 999. Even though it was sealed with its master, the leaking strength was still something that could kill Aakesh in an instant.
Aakesh didn’t respond but only stared at the fiend with the same grave expression. Aakesh was in a difficult position at that moment since the power gap between the two parties was like heaven and earth. Even escape was impossible, let alone survival.
“I am not going to hurt you. You see, I am just an immaterial body. Since you can survive looking me directly in the eye, you are in no danger.”
She spoke as if the fiend could see what was happening with Aakesh.
Aakesh didn’t trust the fiend fully, but since there was nothing he could do in this situation to survive, he responded, “It’s great to see you as well.”
The Red-spotted Demon, kneeling, suddenly trembled as he heard a second voice. Still, since the fiend hadn’t talked to him, he continued kneeling while thinking of ways to save himself. Someone who could come here without his presence being known was bound to be a dangerous person.
At the same time, Aakesh also prepared for the last resort. If things completely turned south, he would exit Panagea. It would result in Aakesh’s waiting over the event turning to nothing, but Aakesh would survive without paying the penalty of death.
“Outsider, I will wait for you when master destroys this damn seal,” the fiend suddenly said as she returned her focus to the Red-spotted Demon that had summoned her.
“What is it that you wish for?” The fiend’s voice was entirely different than what she used to communicate with Aakesh. It sounded like a bunch of voices mixing together, turning the voice horrible.
The Red-spotted Demon, raised his head as he looked at the fiend. He still didn’t dare to look into the eyes.
What the Red-spotted Demon was doing was an effort taken by his family over the past several million years.
Every three million years, there comes a time when seventy-seven stars form a fiendish constellation over a spot in Panagea. Depending on their sacrifices, people could summon fiends and ask for a wish at that time.
This was the knowledge the Red-spotted Demon’s grandfather had gotten in one of the ruins during his journey. The knowledge also revealed the location of the next seven appearances of the fiendish constellation.
More than 90 percent of the items used by the demon in today’s sacrifice came from ruin, including the diluted blood and the knife.
The grandfather died during one of his ruin’s travels, so he never came to see the arrival of the fiendish constellation. The demon became the next torchbearer to search for the sacrifices.
It had taken him and his family several thousand years to find the remaining items for the sacrifice. It was now time for the demon to reap the fruits born by the efforts of his family and the mysterious ruin creator.
Aakesh focused on the demon, as his wish would determine his rewards from the Watcher class.
“Master fiend, I wish for the knowledge to reach Divine,” The red-spotted demon respectfully asked.
In Panagea, Level 100 to Level 500 could simply be reached by gaining XPs. But once someone reached the threshold of becoming a Divine Lifeform, it took more than gaining XP to evolve into Divine.
“Granted!”
The fiend announced majestically as she made a gesture of tapping three times with smoke fingers in the air an inch away from the demon’s head. The next moment, the knowledge required to evolve into a Divine lifeform after reaching Level 500 appeared in the demon’s head.
“The wish you have requested is worth two-thirds of the sacrifices; you may make another wish.”
The demon’s mouth flew wide open in shock as he heard the fiend. The wish he had made wasn’t only for him; it was also the goal of his family. His family hadn’t seen a Divine being since their inception.
His great-great-grandfather had been stuck at Level 495 for hundreds of millions of years. If he learned about this, he would regain the spark to level up and might become the first Divine lifeform in their family.
(A/N: Should I quantify the lifespan in Panagea?)
His family’s obligation ended with obtaining the knowledge. No one in his family knew that there would be another wish, not on the level of knowledge, but still, it was extremely precious.
The demon began to think of things he could ask for. The first thing that came to his mind was his level. But after thinking about it for a while, he decided against it.
Once his power level grew, his family would undoubtedly know. Even though he had done a great service to the family by getting the knowledge, it would still put him in a bad light. Since he would lose the family’s trust, he would have no future prospects.
He could also betray the family, but he wasn’t an idiot. Even his father would begin to hunt him once the knowledge of his betrayal became public. The demon was the one who did the ritual, but it was an effort by the entire family.
