Chapter 141 HE IS NOT REAL
141 HE IS NOT REAL
At the moment, what she felt right now, was a rush of fright. She was afraid to answer him, as she didn't know what Torak's reaction would be. And her cowardice made the question even harder that it remained inside her head, she couldn't even bring herself to answer it.
"I know about the rule in the Village of Angels, my love." Torak answered the unspoken question inside her head. "That was one of the rules that I despised the most." His true emotion was hidden behind his calm demeanor. And on top of that, his voice was so in control, making it harder for Raine to notice the anger in his reaction. It didn't feel right, knowing Torak's existing overprotective nature.
"In other words, you want to say that you indeed had ordered the attack on the Village of Angels?" asked Raine in disbelief. There was only disappointment in her gaze. The way she was looking into Torak's eyes made the supreme Alpha feel uncomfortable. He leaned over to kiss her eyes so they closed temporarily. He didn't want Raine to look at him that way, but there was something that he couldn't change.
The past was one of the many things that he couldn't get his control on. Never had he imagined that Raine would finally discover his ugly side this early. If it was possible, he would've wanted it more for her to never know about it ever, but…
"That was a complicated thing, my love, and I will explain it to you, but not now." before Raine could stare back into his eyes again, Torak had gotten off the bed, and walked towards the door. "I'm going to get some breakfast."
Raine sat down abruptly, looking at the closed door with an inexplicable feeling that remained inside her.
She didn't want to doubt Torak, let alone question him. But because of his order, all the innocent lives of the guardian angels in the whole Village of Angels, were killed. And what was his reason from doing so? Raine just couldn't think of any possible reason that could justify his action. The thing that he had done was just straight annihilation.
But then, when the realization hit her hard, Raine abruptly sat down. She shivered out of fear uncontrollably. She now realized that the annihilation of the Village of Angels wouldn't be the first, nor could it be the last massacre that he had done. It just couldn't be. There must be a lot more of it, looking at the thing that he had done, and what he was capable of doing.
"Now, you can finally see it yourself."
Out of nowhere, a familiar voice sounded inside the empty room. It was a soft, and low voice. She could hear the soothing sound as if it was echoing inside her head. Startled by the voice, Raine whipped her head, looking towards the source of the voice. And there she found Aeon was standing near the glass door to the balcony.
He was quite far for his voice to be heard, but so near as if he was talking from right behind her. "Aeon?" Raine's breath hitched. And out of reflex, she looked towards the door. Afraid that if Torak, or any other lycans around, could hear her with their super hearing ability. She didn't want any misunderstanding to happen. Because, if ever they happened to know Aeon being there, they would fight with each other.
"You shouldn't be here." Raine whispered in distress. She got off from the bed, and approached Aeon. "It'll be too dangerous for you if they find out that you are here."
The lycans that were around wouldn't let Aeon off that easily, especially when he had entered Torak's room.
"So you're worried about me." Aeon took Raine's concern in a different way from what it was originally meant for. "I am happy." He said with a soft smile beamed in his face.
Raine was still skeptical about Aeon. She could feel that Aeon, who was standing before her now, compared with Aeon from the Village of Angels, were different. Both were the same man, but with different personalities. The current Aeon was less hostile, and softer compared to himself centuries ago.
"Of course I am worried about you, but it's not the kind of worry that you're thinking right now." Raine tried to explain herself desperately. She didn't want Aeon to get a wrong idea about this.
"Raine, come with me." Aeon reached out his hand, asking Raine to take it. "You don't need to live with him anymore. I can protect you. Let me protect you."
"No." Raine frowned, answering him immediately. True, that she could never accept Torak's decision in the past, nor could she understand his reason behind his crimes. But it didn't mean that she wanted to leave him. This was something that they needed to talk about. "I don't want to leave him."
Aeon looked hurt by Raine's immediate rejection. "So, even after finding out, and knowing that it was him who had ordered the attack, you still choose to be with him?"
Confused, and conflicted, were the things that she felt right now. With knowing the fact that no matter how she hated Torak's decision in the past, and how cruel he was actually, she was still so conflicted, and couldn't bring herself to leave him, as she should mostly do. "I want to hear the story from his side." Raine murmured.
"The story from his side?"?Aeon repeated what she just said perplexedly. "Raine…" He sighed in frustration. "Do you really think that he would tell you the truth?"
"He will." Raine didn't know if she was being impulsive, or she just trusted Torak blindly. "He will tell me the truth." Because that was what he had promised her.
"Do you really want to stay beside him even after what he had done? He killed many creatures, and if he had to, he would do it, again, and again." Aeon emphasized every word, pressing the importance of this information on Raine.
"That was him in the past. He will not kill innocent people on a whim." Raine was adamant with her words.
Yet, as if fate was trying to prove her wrong, out of the blue, Torak had stood behind her. He pulled her back with one arm, while the other had turned into a set of sharp claws. He drew his hand across Aeon's face with no hesitation, striking him.
Raine muffled her scream with her hands, and covered her face. She turned her head towards whatever shelter she could get from, Torak's body was all that she could get a shield from. She didn't want to see another gory scene. Her entire body was trembling, Raine didn't even realize the moment when Torak wrapped his strong arms around her body.
"You killed him…" Raine choked on her own tears. "Why did you kill him…?" She was still afraid to raise her head, and kept her eyes shut tightly behind her hands.
"I didn't kill him. He is not real." Torak said in a rigid voice, as he rubbed Raine's back to ease her fear.
