Chapter 202 REST AT A BAR
202 REST AT A BAR
"He is really your father, isn't he?" Raine pressed the topic again and walked quickly to catch up with Serefina.
Serefina abruptly turned her body and glared at Raine viciously, "Listen," She inhaled deeply to compose herself. "There are somethings that you shouldn't say out loud even though you know the truth." She warned.
"So is it true?" Raine persisted, ignoring Serefina's warning.
This time Serefina ignored her and strode away towards Fabian, who had settled down at one of the tables andhad begun orderinghis drink.
Raine followed Serefina and sat down beside her.?She concluded that her theory was right and realized that the witch did not want to talk about it because she did not want Fabian to know the truth.?She wondered at Serefina's reason for keeping it a secret.
"What do you want, weakling?" Fabian asked Raine carelessly.
"That's rude." Raine did not bother to hide her annoyance as she glared at Fabian who was sitting in front of her.
"Give her a cup of cold water." Serefina did not even bother with the squabble between Raine and Fabian as she ordered drinks for them.
There were other places he could have chosen for their respite, yet Fabian had to choose this poorly lit bar.?Raine thought it would have been nice to sit outside and look at the fascinating view of the city. This place was nearly empty.?There were only a few other customers and they were sitting in the corner.
One of them had been looking at Raine and Serefina, the only female there, with his dark eyes.?But when Raine looked at him, the man averted his eyes and took another shot then belched.
Raine decided not to think much about his action and waited for her drink while massaging her aching feet.
"We have to be at Cartier village before sun down." Fabian said in a gruff tone. "I don't want unnecessary trouble because we brought her along." He nodded his chin at Raine.
Raine pretended not to hear what Fabian had said.?The witch saw her as a burden.?That was expected of him.
Serefina glanced at Raine. "I think the cloak will hide her scent well." She said.?This was not a mere cloak because she had asked Cassandra to put something on it.?Hence, it would be perfectly fine for Raine to roam around.
"The scent is fine, but her behavior is another case." Fabian looked at Raine up and down. "Overly timid and with a soft nature… even without her scent, I will have my own suspicion about her. She is either an angel or a fae and nothing good couldever come from bringing along such creatures."
An angel would draw the attention ofdark creatures that coveted its power while a Fae would be taken as a slave. This was the era where the weak would perish.
As for the angels, they only stayed within the village of angels, closely guarded by the shadow warriors.?No one was allowed to enter the area.
"No one will realize that she is an angel because no angel would ever leave the village.?If they assume that she is a fae, no one will do anything to her because we are inside Lycan territory." Serefina declared her assessment of the situation.
Fabian shrugged his shoulder. "I was just warning you."
The drinks came. The bartender placed two big bottles of beer and a cup of cold water on the table.?Serefina pushed the water to Raine and signaled for her to drink.
As Serefina and Fabian chatted about the grimoire, Raine looked at the road through the dirty windows.?A ray of sunlight fell on her face.?It was a sunny day and there were a lot of things outside that piqued Raine's curiosity.
However, she felt it again, that feeling of someone staring at her.?It came from the direction of that man with dark eyes.
Raine turned to look at him but then he stood up, paid his bill and walked out of the bar.
With that, Raine thought she was just getting a bit paranoid because of Fabian's worries earlier.?She tried to shrug away her wariness.
Not long after that, a few plates of snack that Serefina had ordered came and distracted Raine's train of thought.
The shapes of the foodstuff looked so peculiar.
"What is this…" Raine pointed at the ones that were shaped like black stones yet were still steaming with white smoke.
"Stone of dew." Said Serefina as she plopped one into her mouth.
Raine blinked in surprise.?She looked at the snack called 'stone of dew'.?It looked like stone, but nothing like dew.
Raine took one and surprisingly, the stone did not feel hot but cold instead.?She took a bite and she was mistaken again, for it was nothing hard at all, but felt very soft and moist in her mouth.
"Good, right?" Serefina looked at Raine's cheerful expression as she pushed the stone of dew's plate towards her. "Try the other dishes too.?You will not find it anywhere."
With that, the two witches began introducing all food on the table to Raine.?Some had strong smell with bitter taste that almost made Raine puke, while others were so sweet it made Raine's teeth ache.
There was nothing else that Raine could eat, except the stone of dew.
Meanwhile, Serefina and Fabian enjoyed watching Raine's reaction as she tasted each food, all the while making sharp comments about her weak endurance. Not only that, they also ordered other strange snacks for her to try.
At this point, Raine assumed that sharp tongues run in this family.
