THE LOVE OF A LYCAN

Chapter 690: The urgency

Chapter 690: The urgency

"Serefina," Calleb called the witch, "Torak is looking for you."Calleb raised his brows upon seeing how pale Serefina was when she turned around. "What is wrong with you? What happened?"

Serefina tilted her head and stared at the Beta questioningly, yet the witch didn't say anything to him in response.

"You look so pale," If ever anything happened to the witch, illness was never one of it. The idea of Serefina fallen ill had never ever even once crossed his mind. Thus, the explanation to her unusual pale complexion was a mystery to him. "Are you perhaps, hungry?" Of all things, this lame, mundane thing was the only possibility that he could think of.

This time the witch glared at him. "It is because of the moonlight, you stupid pup!" Serefina snapped at him.

What!? Pup?—he thought. He was done with that call. Being called with that call again, and again was truly upsetting the Gamma. "You better watch your tongue, witch! Next time you cross me again with that call, I would not hesitate clawing your head off!" He snarled.

Unlike usual, Serefina just rolled her eyes, and didn't give him a snappy answer in return. This time, the witch just walked away.

"Don't you think she has been acting particularly strange today? What's the matter with her?" Calleb asked Raphael who happened to be approaching him. "She seems like she doesn't want to be here, but at the same time, she still leads us here to this place persistently nonetheless." said Calleb.

Raphael hit the back of the Gamma's head in response to his peculiar questions. "Mind your own business Cal. What's the matter with YOU, Cal? Are you worried for her now? Why is it then?"

"Worry? About her?" Calleb shuddered. "Nice joke, Raph!" He tried to hit Raphael, but he dodged it swiftly.

Serefina walked towards the tent where Torak, and Raine were resting. But when she was just about to enter their tent, Torak was stepping out of there. He was on his way out, and they almost bumped into each other.

"So, I heard you were looking for me?" Serefina crossed her arms in front of her chest. As usual, that look in her face returned. Her expression was suggesting that she was bored for whatever reason she had in mind.

"Raine has been hearing whispers ever since we arrived at the village." Torak didn't beat around the bush when he expressed his concern about the strange thing that Raine experienced, to the witch. "What do you think is that? Have you got something in mind about it?"

The witch frowned and looked at the tent. She was sure that Raine was already asleep now. Or else, Torak wouldn't be there, and talk to her without his mate. The supreme Alpha's protectiveness had been reaching another level lately, ever since they arrived in the northern coven realm. He never let Raine out of his sight longer than necessary.

"And what did this whisper say to her?" Serefina asked with concern. She was sure that this area was clear from, if any, black magic or curses. However, she had to admit there were forms of magic that she didn't know.

They were in the Northern Coven realm. It was a place where witches, vampires, and other unknown creatures lived together. The witch wasn't sure if she could recognize all of their magic. This was one of the reasons why she hated being there.

"Well, she couldn't catch most of the whispers. But, one that was clear for her to hear was a whisper saying 'I want to go there'." Torak repeated what Raine told him.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Serefina frowned.

"Do you think I would ask you if I know the answer?" Torak asked incredulously.

"Look." Serefina rolled her eyes dramatically. "I might know most things, but not all of them." And then she added. "You must know one thing for sure though. Your mate was not under any black magic, or curses." She knew what concerned Torak the most.

"How can you be so sure about that?" Torak squinted his eyes. He still had a slight doubt left in him over what Serefina just said.

"I was the one who put the unicorn horn on her. It can effectively avoid one from curses, and black magic." said Serefina exasperatedly, adding more to her explanation. Because she could see it clearly that Torak was still not convinced by her. "She is growing stronger than before, so the force of the unicorn's horn also gets stronger along with her power."

Torak stared back to the tent before his eyes. "So, what do you think is that?"

"I don't know for sure. I need to talk to her to find out." Serefina was about to enter the tent. But then, Torak held her back disapprovingly.

"She just fell asleep." Torak pulled her back. "You can talk to her tomorrow." The whole journey was exhausting for his mate. After all she didn't have the same strength, or the energy needed as shifters. She wasn't as strong as the shifters. Although Raine didn't complain for one bit, Torak could tell only from the look on her face that she was exhausted.

Once again, Serefina rolled her eyes. She threw her arms in the air. "Fine!" she said, completely annoyed by how inconvenient everything was, especially with the way Torak being overprotective. "We will leave before the sunrise. Make sure that your sweet angel has enough of her sleep."

With that, the witch went on her way. Torak entered his tent again. Serefina was barely taking her four steps when she heard a vicious roar erupted from inside the tent, piercing the serene night.

It didn't take another second before the supreme Alpha stormed out of the tent, shouting orders to all the lycans and werewolves around them. The horrible thing that happened was instantly putting them alert.

Among this chaotic situation, Serefina went into the tent to find an empty space. No one was there, and this could only mean one thing.

Raine had gone missing. Again.

However, just as strange as it could get at that moment, the witch didn't find any sign of someone forced breaking into the tent. And if there ever was any suspicious witchcraft activity on the scene, she should've sensed it by now. But in this case, she couldn't sense any foreign force inside the tent, nor in the perimeter outside the tent.

With that only, the witch could read the situation right away. There was only one thing that could explain this phenomenon.

"This girl should learn to control her power right away." Serefina clicked her tongue, irritatedly.

Hope startled, and woke up. Her black dark colored eyes couldn't see things clearly. Everything seemed to be blurry in her vision. It was almost like she was staring at an unfocused object in front of her.

"Hope? What is it? What's wrong?" Kace sat down immediately the moment when he felt Hope's body was trembling. She was somehow out of breath, hyperventilating on her spot. "Was it a bad dream?"

Kace helped her to sit down, and gave her a glass of water. Then, she drank half of it.

"Kace, I need to go. I have to." said Hope, mumbling the words all at once. She jumped to her feet and ran out of the tent. Kace was so close to grabbing her wrist, he ended up failing to stop her. He couldn't reach her in time.

"Hope!" Kace called out her name. This time he managed to grab her by her wrist. They were now outside the tent. They could feel the pairs of eyes around them were watching them curiously. There were some centaurs, and hunters who were on duty. They could only watch the two arguing. "Where are you going in the middle of the night?!"

"There is someone out there." Hope pointed her finger at the direction where the fireflies were flocking together above the shadow of the trees.

"There is no one out there!" Kace kept his hand on her, refusing to let go of her. No matter how hard she tried to free herself from his grip, she failed at the end. He was too strong for her.

She couldn't explain it to him, but she felt this weight in her heart. A feeling that was pushing her to go, and find out who was out there.
