Chapter 692: Meeting kace
Chapter 692: Meeting kace
Jedrek's initial order for Maximus was indeed to kill the guardian angel, who would be Kace's mate. But then, the second order that the lycan king gave him changed into a mission of finding Kace, and his mate's whereabouts.
However, Maximus interpreted this order differently, that it made him go the extra mile. And all just to kill the youngest Donovan. Meanwhile, the truth was that Jedrek never ordered him to do so. In his long life, the king had never even once gave an order that implied a murder of his own brother.
"You have to kill Maximus, we must get rid of him," Killian said. "He has been nothing but a total bastard for all his life."
"No, we can't do that," Eaton rejected the idea.
"And why can't he do that, if I may ask? Also, I wonder why you didn't finish him off while you knew that his loyalty wasn't to you all along." Killian looked at Jedrek, asking for an answer to his question.
Yet, it was Eaton, who dared to open his mouth, answered Killian on behalf of his king. "Maximus's influence in the eastern region is beyond great. And it all thanks to him being the last Gregory. Those people owed him a big favor in the past. So, if we kill him, another rampage would break there. There's no doubt in that. And that is the last thing we need in this situation."
That was one of the reasons why Jedrek kept him alive.
"Go ask Sebastian, and Kyle to bring him back," Jedrek ordered Killian before he dismissed him.
"Will do," Killian said, then he walked out of the room.
Jedrek was no longer under the influence of his father, or the devils that had been clinging under his roof. It all made a great change. His mind was now free from the long bore burden. At least a little less than before. However, he realized that he still had to face the reality, that he was about to bear the blame. Regarding the death of Janus and Diana, they were all on him.
No matter what Eaton said in order to justify this dreadful action, it didn't make the Alpha king feel any better. Not even for the slightest in his breathing moments. What he had done was horrendous, and gruesome. Nothing could change this tragic fate. No one would know about this, but it was something he would have to deal with throughout his eternal life.
"Jedrek, what are you going to do with Maximus?" Eaton asked Jedrek carefully. The king had been talking even less recently, and Eaton was having a hard time to guess what was inside his mind.
"The thing that I should have done a long time ago." Jedrek gave him a questionable answer.
"Jedrek, you know what will happen if you kill him." Eaton tried to remind Jedrek the thing that he understood very clearly.
Jedrek raised his head, and stared into Eaton's eyes coldly. "I killed both my parents, do you think there would be anyone whom I am reluctant to kill?"
In his life, he had done many atrocity acts. Thus, if he had to rule with more blood in his hands, then so be it. Thinking that he had lost his soul anyway. He didn't need his soul, all that he wanted was just to make everything go according to his plan.
==============
Raine's eyes fixed on the white beast that was prowling towards her, baring his sharp teeth so dangerously. She didn't make any movement. She was afraid that the lycan would get her reaction in a wrong way that she would get attacked instead.
She realized that it was a lethal situation. She could get herself killed if ever she took the wrong step. At that moment, her mind worked very fast to think of anything that might help her. And then, she figured out who the white beast was.
"Kace?" Raine called his name, and the beast stopped in his tracks. "You are Kace Donovan, right?"
That could be the only explanation. The pieces were finally put together inside her head. He was the reason why they came all the way to this place. They were there to look for him. Although Raine didn't know what Kace Donovan really looked like in person, but, anyone could tell that only from the sight of his regal looking white fur. The beast was definitely Torak's younger brother.
The beast squinted his blue eyes. Seeing how blue those eyes were, Raine was relieved. It could only mean that his human side was in full control. Alright, there's nothing I should worry about, everything is under control. He's in control, hopefully.—she thought.
"I came here with Torak to look for you," Raine was trying to explain herself since Kace refused to shift back into his human form. "I am Raine, Torak's mate."
Raine sat there with her back leaned against the tree, watching the white beast circling her before he?crept closer. Its snout touched Raine's hand, and she cowered away. It felt strange to her. How the beast looked exactly like Torak whenever he shifted. But she knew that it was not him, and the absence of the spark between them only made Raine feel the unfamiliarity even more.
However, in the next thing she knew, the white beast shifted into his human form right in front of her eyes. And there he was, a man, with uncanny resemblances to Torak. Their similarity in features, and appearance were almost fooling her. If ever she didn't know better, she would absolutely have mistaken him as Torak. They even shared the same blue eyes.
Suddenly, he was kneeling in front of her.
"You smell like him," Kace groaned. This girl was indeed Torak's mate. He could see Torak's mark that peeked on her neck.
There was no doubt about it, in one glance, one might have mistaken this man as Torak. But once one got a chance to have a closer look, he was nothing like his older brother.
Torak had a cold demeanor, and dominance would come naturally all at once. Unlike his brother, Kace was akin to a careless young guy with a clear troublemaker nature. He was basically a free-spirited guy. Though, Raine was still thinking Torak was way more handsome than him, but it was her subjective opinion, as Torak was her mate.
"I don't think I smell like him." Raine sniffed herself, but she couldn't smell anything. Clueless, the girl didn't even know what her own smell was like.
"What are you doing here?" Kace asked as he stood up. He glanced down at Raine, assessing the girl in front of his eyes. Immediately found the similarity between her and his mate, Hope.
They both had the same long black hair, and a pair of dark colored, yet bright eyes. However, just from the sight of her, he could tell that Raine was timid, and the type who would get scared easily. Meanwhile, Hope was more cheeky, and buoyant.
"I also had no idea," Raine said softly. She stood up, and Kace could see her clearer. At once, he noticed how small she was. Did Torak not give her enough food?—he thought. But then, Kace remembered that Hope was also small, or to be perfectly fair, Hope might be slightly taller than her.
"What do you mean you don't know?" Kace looked around him, sniffing the air.Torak might be somewhere nearby. If not, why would his mate be there. And on top of that, alone. He was trying to locate Torak by sniffing the air. But, it was odd enough for him that he couldn't find Torak's scent anywhere. It was impossible. Why would he leave his mate alone in the woods?—he thought.?"Where is Torak?"
"We…" Raine couldn't finish her words when she watched in horror as the presence of some strange creatures emerged from the dense trees. There were three, or four horse legged humans that surprised her with their presence. She shrieked, and hid behind Kace's back. "What are those?"
"Centaurs," Kace answered curtly, he glanced at Raine, "Wait, what are you doing? What's wrong?"
Raine didn't answer him, as her eyes fixed on the strange creatures in front of her.
"You don't need to be afraid, they are the cutest creatures here."
