The Over-Break System

186 Arriving at Vesemir School For Affinities 2/2 (Message from Author)

****Hey everyone, Author-San, ScotchTy here; I just wanted to take a minute to chat with you all; from the beginning, the 185 and 186 were a single chapter; the first look at the school and the landing came out to around 3800 words. So I split it into two chapters because it was too long to meet my personal chapter standards. THUS this one is a bit shorter than usual. So far, we are currently 42 chapters into Volume Three, and I know some of you are probably beating your heads against the wall screaming, “OI AUTHOR-SAN WHERE DAH FIGHTS AT!” and to those who are, I wanna say, “WORLD BUILDING FOO!”

From the start of Volume One, I have specifically given Cynrik and Brance an extremely limited worldview. Be it between Cinyah and Rikard being overly protective, making them stay basically in their little town of Lawton for their whole lives, or the regulations imposed by not only Tobs but also the Government ban on high-level information. In my initial planning (I swear there is a massive plot outline for this series), I always intended on Volume 3 being the info dump.

Now that the brothers have arrived at VSFA, they will have extensive amounts of data to comb through since the Academies are, at heart…a place for learning.

We are currently in VOL 3, and by this point, we had already jumped headfirst into the main arc in VOL 1 and 2. For reference, just look at AoT and how Isayama Sensei took seasons 1 and 2 and turned them into roller coasters before expanding the world in 3. I am taking a similar approach, but FRET NOT MY FRIENDS; this Volume is only a little over halfway done, which means we haven’t even hit the main arc of Vol 3 yet. So you can expect hella fight scenes, Cynrik and Selene getting into shenanigans and leaving Brance to clean up the mess, Benny being the little weirdo he is, and of course, Gabby being Gabby.

Next up, IT IS TIME! TOBS CORNER VOL 3. So, get those questions ready because I will pick the best ones from the community for this Volume’s installment of Tobs’ Corner; remember, you can tweet or slap them on Instagram with #TheOverBreakSystemTCQA or post them in the comments with the same hashtag.

One last thing, I swear, then I’ll let yall get to this chapter; you guys are SMASHHHING the stretch goal I set, we are only 639 stones and 2 Magic Castles away from our goal and there are still 31 days left. From the bottom of my tiny little sadistic heart, I thank each of you for reading and interacting with this series that I spent years coming up with. Anyway, enough with my ranting, HO BEY HO LETS GET INTO THIS CHAPTER ALREADY!!! ****

TSSSSSSS

With a loud sound of decompression, the doors of Headmaster Rivia’s vehicle slowly opened, expelling the stale air accumulated over the 12-hour trip.

The landing procedures had gone smoothly, and with the doors now open, Gabby, Benny, Selene, and even Brance dashed out of their chairs, happy to be back on the solid ground finally. Only Cynrik and Headmaster Rivia slowly and calmly exited the vehicle.

Moving from the silence of the ship’s cabin to the loud cacophony of noisy children getting off the buses caused a bit of shellshock for the members of MyrkLys, but everyone swiftly adjusted as excitement for a new adventure and school life swelled in their hearts.

Gabby was dragging around Brance and Benny while bouncing around, taking in the sights of their new home for the next six years, and Selene followed behind like an older sister, adding in her own two cents.

Cynrik stood with his hands by his side, watching the members of his party acting their age for the first time in what seemed like forever, and a faint smile crept onto his lips.

‘I’ll leave them be for now; a couple of days of adjusting isn’t bad for them. Selene, Brance, and I are practically ancient compared to Gabby and Benny, so that it won’t take too long for us, but for Gabby and Benny, this is a new and exciting experience on top of being the first time they will have been away from their parents for so long.’ So Cynrik thought as he continued making the same punching motion with his left hand as he had the entirety of the trip.

“Student Ivar, I will take my leave here; I have to ensure the enrollment goes smoothly. So go ahead and migrate with the crowd towards the Orientation center; there, you will receive your student identification and Merit Card. Everything is already set up as per the contract, so you have nothing to worry about.” Stepping up beside Cynrik, Headmaster Rivia said, not looking away from his Watcet for a second.

“Got it; oh one thing, Headmaster, what are the dorm arrangements like? If possible, I would like all my party members to be close to one another or bunk together.” Remembering he hadn’t stated his living arrangements in the contract, Cynrik brought the topic up while he was still with the Headmaster.

Stopping in his tracks, Headmaster Rivia turned around and gave Cynrik a pleading expression.

‘Come on, kid, haven’t you milked my Academy for enough already?’ He thought to himself.

“One moment, let me see what I can do,” Rubbing his temples to curb the incoming headache, Headmaster Rivia pulled up a holographic display and spent a few minutes tapping away before closing it and shooting a glance at Cynrik.

“Here’s the deal, the best I can do since you are first years is put Gabby and Selene in a room, and you, your brother, and Benny into a four-person room. Since you are being treated as Elite enrollees, the girls will share a two-person room, and you three boys won’t have a fourth person added to yours for the time being, but be aware that this is subject to change. But if you guys make steady achievements, we should be able to work out moving you all into a team dorm by the end of your first year.”

“That, however, depends on if you show to be deserving and become the top competition team among the first and second-year students.” After finishing his statement, Headmaster Rivia hurried off, afraid Cynrik would ask for more free handouts, leaving a stunned Cynrik to watch his parties receding backs.

‘Stingy old coot, you know damn well we will surpass the second years; why couldn’t you just give us the team dorm early, tsk.’ Clicking his tongue in his mind, Cynrik chased after his party, quickly catching up and blending into the sea of other new students as they moved like a herd forward, following a predetermined path filled with welcome banners.

[[Cyn, what were you talking with the Headmaster about? You didn’t try extorting more free shit, did you? Leave the man alone; he has an entire school the size of a small city to run.]] Noticing the arrival of his older brother, Brance asked curiously before his tone turned into one of scolding.

[[Eh? I didn’t try extorting jack shit, plus the good old Geralt wouldn’t budge even if I begged. I was just figuring out our living situation.]] Feeling wronged by how quickly Brance jumped down his throat, Cynrik went on the defensive.

[[OH? How did it go? Do we have a big house for all of us? I can’t stand being cooped up with randos I’ve never met.]] Selene said, sending a silent prayer to no Deity, in particular, her anti-social and outcast mentality taking over.

[[That’s a no for the team dorm, the Headmaster gave me some bullshit story about how we need to become the top competition team between the first and second years to qualify, but I did, however, secure you and Gabby a dorm for just the two of you. So Brance, Benny, and I will be bunking together in a four-person dorm, and it should be just us for now.]] Cynrik shattered Selene’s hopes in an instant, but she quickly recovered.

[[That’s fine, I needed some time to get used to Gabby anyway, she is the only other girl in the squad, after all.]] When her words entered the mind link, a cynical smile crept onto Selene’s lips as she plotted a bunch of pranks to pull on her fellow teammate.

Seeing her twisted expression, Brance immediately started hollering in response.

[[HEY, YOU BETTER BE NICE TO HER SELENE, OR SO HELP ME! I already have enough fucking trouble with Cynrik; I don’t need you acting like a fool too. Gabby is the youngest here; you damn well better serve as a good big sister to her, or I’ll beat the fuck out of you, DO YOU HEAR ME?]]

Both Cynrik and Selene flinched as Brance began throwing a fit, all because he predicted Selene’s ill intentions, but how could Cynrik let this blatant sign of affection towards Gabby go unanswered.

[[OH SHIT! Brancie, are you finally admitting your undying love and affection for Gabby. My thick-headed little brother, she is but a youngin, at least wait till she gets a bit older, bad Brancie. No touchie the loli!]]

[[WAIT, GABBY AND BRANCE ARE A THING, WOOOOWW didn’t expect you to be a cradle robber Brance. Tsk tsk.]] Even Selene joined in on the teasing.

BAM BAM

But Brance had none of it and delivered a heavy kick to Cynrik’s stomach flinging him through the air, sending him flying passed a group of children. Next, he bopped Selene on top of the head, knocking her to the ground on her belly.

Unfortunately, it didn’t affect them in the way Brance had hoped, as the two burst out in hideous laughter while struggling back to their feet.

[[Fucking freaks, you two are a match made in heaven, who the hell other than super villains laugh like lunatics when they get hit.]] Realizing his attacks had virtually zero effect on the two, Brance scoffed loudly before rushing up to Gabby and taking her hand.

[[Gabby is like a little sister to me, and I won’t have her being corrupted by you two fucking psychos.]] With that, Brance ran off with Gabby in hand and Benny in tow, putting distance between himself, Selene and Cynrik.

“Geeze, is he always so overprotective of her?” Then, Selene asked, walking over to Cynrik, who was back on his feet and rubbing his belly where there was a visible footprint.

“Haha, he always tells me that I’m trying to corrupt Gabby, but after all this time, it still hasn’t happened; whatever, let’s go, don’t wanna miss orientation,” Cynrik said after collecting himself and patting her shoulder.

The two Dark Affinity users shared another laugh and went on their way, cutting through the herd of new students unnoticed.
