Chapter 397 - Tan Mo Blushes
Chapter 397: Tan Mo Blushes
“It’s unnecessary. We’d attract unwanted attention if we were to move our table,” Wei Zhiqian said. Then, after taking a sip of water, he stared at upperclassman Cheng again. “In your opinion, under what circumstances would a guy like him pick this restaurant for dinner?”
Seeing that Wei Zhiqian continued to act weird about the man’s identity, Wen Nuanxin did not pry any further.
Needless to say, her main reason was to avoid offending him.
Nevertheless, Wei Zhiqian had confirmed that the person was in the same restaurant. So she didn’t have to be impatient.
As long as the person was having a meal here, it would take him at least an hour.
She was certain that she would have been able to figure out which one he was during that long a time.
Furthermore, Wei Zhiqian had been turning his eyes in a specific direction repeatedly.
Her intuition told her that the man who he had brought up earlier was sitting in that direction.
So Wen Nuanxin turned her head to follow Wei Zhiqian’s gaze.
At that time of the evening, the restaurant was packed to the brim. No empty table could be sighted.
Still, it was relatively easy to spot the person he was interested in in the crowd.
He sat alone at a table, clearly waiting for someone.
The man was a graduate student. That meant he must be a youthful person.
The lad must be an individual with stunning features since he had been able to make Wei Zhiqian so infatuated with him.
After going through all these requirements in her head, Wen Nuanxin fixed her eyes on upperclassman Cheng’s location.
A lot of diners had shown up some time before upperclassman Cheng’s arrival.
Everyone began to partake of their meals while exchanging chatter with their dining companions.
Only upperclassman Cheng and Wei Zhiqian’s tables remained empty.
Wei Zhiqian and Wen Nuanxin had arrived a little bit before upperclassman Cheng, and two dishes had been served to their table. Thus, it was not completely empty.
On the other hand, there were only utensils and drinking glasses on upperclassman Cheng’s table.
Right then, upperclassman Cheng was glancing through the menu.
He was the only person at the table.
While flipping through the list of dishes, he would lift his head to stare at the restaurant’s entrance sporadically, undoubtedly waiting for someone.
Although Wen Nuanxin could only see upperclassman Cheng’s back, occasionally she could see his profile when he moved his head.
She could surmise that he was good-looking.
Moreover, he had a certain boyish charm that was owing to his identity as a student.
After much contemplation, Wen Nuanxin still could not figure out if upperclassman Cheng was Wei Zhiqian’s lover or it was an unrequited love.
Wen Nuanxin spoke her mind. “Teatime has a nice ambiance. Since it isn’t too overpriced, it’s still within most people’s budget. Look at the diners in this restaurant. They are family gatherings and groups of friends. And it seems as if couples are the majority here.
“My take is that the pricing and environment are suitable for most lovers looking for an ideal dating place. Additionally, the Cantonese cuisine here is very fine. So it makes sense that a lot of couples would pick this restaurant.” Wen Nuanxin shot upperclassman Cheng a glance.
“As students, guys usually won’t choose a restaurant with quiet ambiance as their gathering spot. Instead, they’d pick a venue that is a little rough and loud for their drinking and partying. Unfortunately, this restaurant is a little too formal for that.” Wen Nuanxin continued with a smile, “That guy over there seems to have put a lot of effort into his attire.
Although his outfit was slightly immature, he had done his best as a student.
“I guess this must be an important date for him,” Wen Nuanxin remarked. “If my hunch is right on the money, he should be waiting for a girl he has a crush on. Just look at his nervousness, and you’ll be able to tell that I’m right. This must be his very first date with that girl or their initial date after officially becoming a couple. Well, it can be nerve-wracking.
“Perhaps, he still hasn’t confessed his feelings and is planning to do it tonight, or he is still wooing the girl.” Wen Nuanxin gave full play to her professional knowledge.
Upon hearing all this, Wei Zhiqian rubbed his thumb against his forefinger’s joints continuously.
Narrowing his eyes, he glared at upperclassman Cheng.
After Wen Nuanxin had successfully identified upperclassman Cheng, he stared at the latter in an unrestrained manner.
Although he’d skipped his daily visitations at Tan Mo’s school lately, he was still aware of what went on around her and her daily life.
Upperclassman Cheng was unwilling to give up on Tan Mo.
She had been rejecting him every time he asked her out for a date.
Wei Zhiqian had paid extra attention to upperclassman Cheng’s activities since the latter would not stop pursuing Tan Mo.
After investigating, he realized that upperclassman Cheng did not show any interest in other girls, nor had he tried to date them.
He seemed to only have eyes for Tan Mo.
In that case, who was he waiting for?
If he indeed had planned a date with a girl in this restaurant, as Wen Nuanxin had said…
Could that person be…?
As that thought crossed his mind, Wei Zhiqian narrowed his eyes to slits and knitted his brows together tightly.
It couldn’t be Tan Mo.
Right after he brushed off the idea, upperclassman Cheng could be seen waving his hand at the entrance frantically.
So Wei Zhiqian turned his gaze in the same direction.
Chills ran down his spine and the color drained from his face at the sight.
Isn’t that Tan Mo?
Is she having a date with upperclassman Cheng?
“Tan Mo…” Upperclassman Cheng stood upright with enthusiasm and pulled out the chair for Tan Mo.
Feeling embarrassed, she gestured at him. “Upperclassman Cheng, don’t be so courteous.”
“Of course I will be. This is what proper manners entail.” Upperclassman Cheng flashed a smile.
Tan Mo felt completely awkward as upperclassman Cheng had been making a big racket that had attracted the attention of the other diners.
Tan Mo’s face flushed because of that.
To avoid being the center of the spotlight, she stopped declining his gesture. Otherwise, there would be more eyes on her.
With the ruckus upperclassman Cheng raised, Tan Mo felt too ashamed to look around the room. Therefore, she completely missed the fact that Wei Zhiqian was there.
After sitting, she checked the time and asked, “Upperclassman Cheng, are Yeqing and Muye still not here yet?”
“Not yet. Maybe they were caught in traffic.” Upperclassman Cheng kept Ming Yeqing’s instructions close to his heart. He did not let the cat out of the bag.
Tan Mo nodded. “Have you been here for a long time?”
“Yes. I was afraid of getting stuck in traffic and keeping you…people waiting. So that’s why I left earlier and arrived before everyone else,” upperclassman Cheng said. “But it’s okay. I feel more comfortable that way.”
At that, Tan Mo smiled and replied, “Well, yes. I was worried about the heavy traffic, so I also left way ahead of schedule. Yeqing and Muye are terrible. Why didn’t they leave earlier knowing that the traffic would be bad on a Friday night?”
“Yeqing couldn’t make it earlier because he was occupied with his assistant job at Professor Yue’s lecture. So he could only come after that.” Then upperclassman Cheng added, “But Yeqing didn’t mention that you were joining us when he invited me earlier. Otherwise, I would’ve come with you from the campus.”
In a very shrewd move, upperclassman Cheng revealed that he had had no knowledge of Tan Mo’s coming.
For that reason, Tan Mo did not say any of the things that had welled up in her mind.
Qin Muye did not mention that upperclassman Cheng would join them.
So of course Tan Mo had not asked any questions because there were usually nobody joining the trio every time they met.
“I didn’t expect to see you here either,” Tan Mo explained.
