Chapter 156 – Installing the Telephone (1)
Shu Yan did not go to the shop the day before and that made Zhang Huaxiu a little worried. When Shu Yan showed up looking pale and weak, she was even more worried.
They have known each other for two months now and the boss lady had always been high spirited, rarely looking like she did right now.
“I don’t even want to talk about it. Remember that customer who gave me the folk prescription? I tried one dose when I got home and had diarrhea that night, and then all day yesterday. Not even medicines from the hospital helped so I had to go in again today for IV. It almost killed me.” Shu Yan still hasn’t recovered yet and just felt very weak all over.
“That bad? Is everything else alright?” asked Zhang Huaxiu, worrying after the event.
“It’s fine. The doctor said the prescription was for cooling of the body and getting rid of toxin.” Having said that, Shu Yan wasn’t sure what to make of it. “The purpose of it was to get rid of the toxin in your body and improve your skin, but my core is too cold that I reacted strongly to the prescription than others normally would.”
One of the customers in the shop chimed in when she heard Shu Yan’s words. “That’s not good. You shouldn’t take medications randomly. I suggest for you to go have your spots removed by laser. A girlfriend of mine had that done and now her skin was alabaster and smooth, like a peeled egg.”
“I’ve heard that laser spot removal is harmful and that your skin will get worse later on.” Shu Yan had thought about that as well, but she worried about possible sequela.
“Not too much problem if you keep up with your skin care. In either case, it will be better than that folk prescription of yours.” The customer studied Shu Yan’s look. “Your features are quite nice. You just need to be a shade lighter and get rid of the spots and you will be a beauty.”
“You must be joking.” Shu Yan decided to finish up the herbal medications that she had at home first. Laser sounded a bit scary to her.
Speaking of skin tone, original owner had been working in the field her entire life. Shu Yan had started avoiding the sun since she had arrived at City Nan and use products that helped her lighten up. She had seen some results but she wasn’t much lighter than she was before. Just not as dark. She could probably be one more shade paler by the time winter is over.
After the long wait, the phone installer had finally showed up. As soon as the phone was installed, Shu Yan immediately gave Hu Ruixue a call. They will be able to reach other directly from now on. She then called up all of her suppliers. Flipping through her address book and looking at the very top name, Shu Yan hesitated for a second and finally dialed the number.
“It’s me, Third Brother.”
“So you finally thought about giving me a call? How long has it been already? I was starting to think that you had gone missing.”
Shu Yan had only called him once when she had first arrived at City Nan. Came to think about it, it had been over a month. No wonder Shu Jianyang was unhappy.
His being unhappy meant he missed her. The corners of Shu Yan’s lips rose up. “I’m sorry, Third Brother, I have been very busy over here and hadn’t have a chance to call you. I have a phone installed now and you will be able to reach me anytime now.”
“You even have a phone installed? Looks like you are doing pretty good over there. You mentioned that you were going to buy a house last time we talked. Is the remodeling done and you have a phone installed?” Shu Jianyang switched to a more comfortable position and waved and dismissed those around him.
“No, the remodeling at the house has just completed and the smell was still very strong inside. It will need to be aired out for a few months and we can probably move in by the end of the year. I opened up a clothing store in City Nan and I have a phone installed here. I am usually here during the day time and go pick up the children around 4 or 5 in the afternoon.” Shu Yan did not keep anything from him. He was her only family that she trusted in this world.
