Shu Yan headed over to Wu Xiuyue’s place after she had gone home and taken a shower. Wu Xiuyue knew that her sister-in-law had mentioned it to Shu Yan when she saw her.
“Xiuxiu mentioned that you went merchandizing yesterday so probably didn’t get much sleep. There is no rush here. Why don’t get you some rest first and help me out when you have some free time?” She was anxious, of course, and wished that Shu Yan could help her right away. But she also couldn’t be that selfish.
“That’s alright. I got a few hours sleep last night. I won’t be able to sleep tonight if I take a long nap. I can go with you to take a look at your place now,” said Shu Yan with a slight smile.
Shu Yan had visited this shopping mall quite a few times in the past. It was the busiest location on Fijian Street. Zhang Huaxiu had mentioned that this place was “not far” from the shopping mall. Shu Yan felt that the quotes around “not far” was very necessary. It was almost 7 to 8-minute walk from the southern entrance. How could they call that “not far”?
“I wouldn’t say it was too much off the beaten path but it’s not a great location either. How much are they asking for for rent?” ask Shu Yan after she had taken a look around.
“600 yuan a month or 7,000 a year. I am sort of friends with the boss lady so she would not charge me for a transfer fee. She still has half a year left on the contract and all I needed to fork out is the remaining rent.” Wu Xiuyue studied Shu Yan’s look carefully as she talked. She worried a lot that Shu Yan would point out something negative about this place.
Wu Xiuyue’s friend was quite generous. Shu Yan took a look and the shop was a boutique as well, albeit a lower-end one. It was not bad overall but it was a little bit further from the university city so its business might not be top notch.
“I’ve heard that they were going to demolish the area around the southern entrance. They won’t be demolishing over in this area, would they?” asked Shu Yan.
It was a possibility. She had heard quite a few cases like this before – renters tricking their friends or families back home to take over their contracts after they had learned about the demolition from the landlord.
“I don’t think so?” Wu Xiuyue was startled. That was certainly a possibility.
She quickly asked around the immediate area and also had someone she was familiar with to ask around as well and let out a sigh of relief after learning that there would not be any demolition in this area.
“I didn’t think she’d would that to me,” said Wu Xiuyue as she let out a sigh of relief.
“I led you down the wrong path.”
“No, one can’t be too careful. You have also reminded me that I should not be so frazzled when planning to open up a shop. I need to remain calm. It wasn’t easy to save up. If I lose money on this, I wouldn’t know how to face my child’s daddy.” Wu Xiuyue was under a lot of stress. They were using the money that they had saved up for a house to invest in starting a business of their own. If they lost money on it, they would be left with nothing.
Ruling out all of the potential issues, Shu Yan felt that it wasn’t a bad idea to take over this shop. She should, however, set a new positioning for the shop and sign a new contract for the transferal in the landlord’s presence.
“I wouldn’t know about any of these if it wasn’t for you,” said Wu Xiuyue very appreciatively.
“I think you can totally convert this to a high-end woman clothing shop.” Shu Yan suggested.
“High-end? You mean like yours? No, I don’t think so. Do you think the people over here and afford that?” Wu Xiuyue felt that people in this area were not very well off nor were the student. Who could afford an item of clothing that cost up to half a month’s salary?
