Chapter 117 - Team Luna All The Way
Chapter 117 – Team Luna All The Way
The castle had been gloomy after that incident two days ago. Although everyone was still treating me the same, there was just this tension lingering through the walls. Emily also visited me yesterday, thanking me for talking to Hugo and giving their family a chance to prove their loyalty. I was glad that Hugo made a wise decision, and no one died.
Sasha had also been recovering. I would visit and stay with her for an hour or two with Maricel. Meanwhile, Hugo would still stay with me every night, but after that incident… the twins, Kieran and Cyran, were tasked to be with me at all times to be my guards.
"Are you still bothered by the twins' presence?" I flinched when Ivo clapped in front of me. We were now in the study, teaching me things I should know before I completely handle the matters of the estate. The twins were outside.
"You've been zoning out since this morning. You can tell me if this is too much for you."
"No, it's fine." I smiled wearily, sighing deeply. "It's just that… Hugo had been smiling less these days. Is everything alright?"
Ivo cupped his cheek with both his hands, leaning forward, eyes on me. "Luna, what do you mean Alpha Hugo is smiling less? It's actually he had been smiling more."
"Pardon?"
"Hmm. I mean, Alpha Hugo wasn't the person who always smiles a lot before. Although he isn't that cold and distant, he was more like a grumpy old man." He shrugged, explaining the difference in Hugo's personality before and now. "Although he changed a lot after that night in Everfell."
"Is that so? I think there's still so much to learn about Hugo, huh?" I murmured with a shallow breath. Until now, I knew Hugo for what I knew him when I met him in that woods; fierce, strong, and a bit clingy. Although I would ask him anything random and he would answer them honestly, I don't remember asking him about him in the past.
There was a moment of silence in the study room until Ivo spoke again. "Luna, you're actually very scary."
"Huh?"
"I mean what you did to Adelia. I'm glad I didn't rub on your bad side." I blinked twice at his remarks.
"Are you talking about the slap?" I tilted my head, but he frowned and had this complex look in his eyes.
"Luna, you don't have to keep it a secret from me, you know? I mean, although Bal and Emily and their sons are loyal warriors to Alpha Hugo, Adelia is annoying. She thinks she will be the luna of the pack and was entitled to order everyone around. We don't point it out since it's pointless, but I'm also a bit annoyed at her sometimes."
"Ivo, I am confused."
He blinked, tilting his head to the side. "Didn't you take Adelia as your lady-in-waiting because you expected this would happen?"
Silence. The space between my brows wrinkled while staring at him. He didn't have anything on his countenance but his usual look.
"Luna, you know from the start Adelia doesn't like you and you're aware of werewolves' temperament. If you voiced out your displeasure about Adelia's attitude, although people will understand, weren't you afraid it would give you a bad light? By choosing her to be your lady-in-waiting, people would think it's kind of you. But also, Adelia, who is still young and reckless, and considering her feelings for Alpha Hugo, she is bound to snap. She had to be with the person she dislike and see you and Alpha Hugo being intimate. That is like fanning the flames, isn't it?" Ivo shrugged as he relayed his thoughts about the incident days ago.
"It's actually very smart and scary the more I think about it. People now see you as someone who was kind to save the House Talon, even though Adelia tried to kill you. But at the same time, you're the culprit why it happened in the first place. Everything is a win for you. Everyone sees you like an angel and you got rid of Adelia. I'm so proud of our luna."
"Ivo, I know you're smart. But aren't you reading too much into things?" I chuckled weakly and shook my head. I gazed at the accounts laid on the table, smiling subtly. "Although… I wish Adelia and I became friends."
"But she chose not to be. That's why it's scary."
I glanced up at him. "Was there anything you will not notice, Ivo?"
A proud grin dominated his face. Ivo was Hugo's legal advisor for a reason. He could see and analyze things that others wouldn't. Although he was not entirely correct, there were some truths in it. I didn't want things to escalate to the worse, but I had been alarmed by Adelia from the start.
Hugo trusted everyone in Belcoot. He cherished his people and never doubted them. Hence, he wouldn't notice if someone — especially someone close to him — of what they were capable of doing. I requested Adelia to be my lady-in-waiting in hopes she wouldn't hate me if she knew me more. All I've shown her was genuine, and I truly wished I could reach her if I exerted more effort.
But at the same time, I had this thought at the back of my head that if Adelia kept being stubborn and wouldn't accept my relationship with Hugo, then… only one of us shall remain in this castle.
"When coming to Belcoot, Hugo reminded me of myself when I was in Everfell." A subtle smile appeared on my face, looking back at Ivo. "Once you are surrounded with the people you knew and trust, a person tends to become unsuspecting. I'm just scared that things would turn out bad and we will only realize it once we're harmed by what we don't know."
"This is why you're the luna." Ivo raised his thumb, smiling from ear to ear until his eyes squinted. "I'm at ease knowing our Luna is a cunning fox."
"If you had already thought about it, why didn't you argue with me when I took her as my lady-in-waiting?"
"Hehehe… I don't like Adelia. I think I already said that."
I sighed as he seemed the happiest. "Don't tell Hugh about it, Ivo."
"If I plan to, I would've told him that night of the incident. I am on your side, after all. I'm team Luna all the way." His expression brightened up, almost blinding me.
"Ivo, tell me what kind of request you had in mind." I sighed, knowing Ivo wouldn't spew all this for no reason.
"My lady. How can you think like that? Just don't let Alpha Hugo kill me."
I knew it. I shook my head and sighed, eyes shifting to the accounts I was reading previously. "Stop talking back to Hugh and you will live a long life."
"Luna, come on~"
