Chapter 121 - It Hurts I Could Die
Chapter 121 – It Hurts I Could Die
Hugo explained to me the current state of affairs in Belcoot. Since he was gone to assist Daniel in the Capital — Hugo was Daniel's most loyal and reliable warrior — some people in Belcoot came together to depose him. He was young back when he became the grand duke, and most of those who opposed his governance were supporters of the previous grand duke.
He didn't give out a lot of details about how he became a grand duke aside from challenging him and defeating him. I didn't need details to know that it was a battle with their life on the line.
To make the story short, Hugo was branding all those who came together as traitors and hunting them down one by one. He didn't give a word about his return to catch those people off guard. But alas, some of them managed to getaway.
How did he get all those wounds? Some of them fought back and ambushed Hugo, knowing he was coming after them. There was a 'bit' of confrontation, but he reassured me, even if they were caught off guard, it was simply a futile attempt. His enemies' one last struggle.
"You should wince a bit, you know?" I frowned while putting an ointment on the wound on his temple. "Just pretend to be a little weak sometimes. There's nothing wrong with being vulnerable."
"Ahh…! It hurts…" my frown grew worse as he exclaimed awkwardly. "Like that?"
A shallow breath slipped past my lips, shaking my head lightly. After helping him bathe, Hugo and I headed to my room; which had become our shared room since he would sleep here every single night without fail.
In here, I personally took care of his already healing wounds while sitting on the settee. He told me there was no need since they would heal on their own, but I still wanted to take care of him.
"You always take care of me from the start, and I really appreciate it. But Hugo seemed he didn't know how to take care of himself. How can you get hurt?" came out a complaint, glancing at him. "Hugo, do you know what is dangerous? More than the other person harming you, it is more harmful when a person gets used to being hurt. You don't know what kind of person one will turn out if they were too used to pain."
Hugo smiled wearily, brushing my cheek with the back of his hand. "I'm not used to pain. It just doesn't hurt that much, really. It actually felt ticklish when someone smash a table against my head."
"A table? Hugh, don't get hurt again. I will get mad if you let yourself get hurt."
"I won't. How can I bear my Rinrin getting angry at me?"
"I forbid you from getting hurt, especially if it's because of me." I smacked my lips as I let out a deep sigh. "If you don't have a reason to take care of your body, then think of it as mine. Hurting it also means hurting me. Letting others touch you also mean letting others touch me. If you bleed, my body might not bleed, but my heart will bleed the same amount."
I looked at him and tilted my head slightly, holding his hand and squeezing it. I sported a smile, and he smiled back, letting out a sigh.
"Just give me one reason why I shouldn't carry you to bed and shower you with love?" he asked, eyes glinting, revealing his sudden desire to be intimate.
"One reason?" I arched a brow, guiding his hand to my lips. "You're injured. I don't want Hugo to move too much, otherwise he might not get better."
I planted a peck on the already healed wound he had on the back of his hand. "Does it still hurt now?"
"Uh…" His mouth fell open, blinking countless times before he nodded. "Yes."
I smiled and went on to kiss all the scratched around his hand and then across his arm. When I looked up, Hugo had this blank expression on his face. I furrowed my brows, but before I could ask if there was something wrong, he pointed at his face.
"I got punched here too," he said, pointing at his right cheek. "It still hurts, my Bambi."
"Oh?" I snapped my eyes, stretched my neck, and kissed his cheek. "Better?"
"Better."
Pleased, I placed another light kiss on his temple. After that, I sat back down and smiled at him. But his expression was still something hard to explain in words. It was a mix of shock, or rather, he looked more than a bit distracted.
"Aw…" to my surprise, Hugo suddenly winced that instantly made me panic.
"What happened, Hugh? Is there something wrong? Are you still in pain anywhere?"
"Ugh… yes, Rinrin. Ah… it hurts." I gasped and instantly turned pale when he hunched in. "Rin… rin…"
"Hugh, where does it hurt? I will call Ivo for help!" I wanted to touch him, but my hands stopped, afraid I would touch the wrong area and he'd be more in pain. So, instead, I automatically thought of calling for help. But as soon as I sprung up from my seat, his hand grabbed my wrist and he yanked me onto his lap.
A squealed and clutched his shoulder on instinct, gazing up, wide-eyed. He was looking at me as if he wasn't in pain a second ago. "Hugh?"
"Rinrin, can't you see that there's this wound on the side of my lips? It hurts so much I could die." Hugo stretched his neck to show that minor wound on the side of his lips, puckering right after. "Please heal it."
I frowned and slapped his chest lightly. "Hugh! Do you plan on giving me a heart attack?!"
"Rinrin, but this bruise is the one that hurts the most!" He frowned, casting me puppy eyes as if the entire world wronged him. "Really. No joke."
We looked at each other before I sighed several seconds later. I couldn't say no to him, even though I knew he was simply exaggerating. So, I lifted my head to kiss the side of his lips. But as soon as I did, his eyes drooped menacingly, bending over to claim my lips once again.
"Hugh…" came out a muffled voice against his lips. "… you're injured…"
"Mhmm. Just kissing…" I caught how his eyes glinted as he smirked against my lips. "…. this doesn't require a lot of movements, isn't it?"
