True Alpha’s Chosen Mate

Chapter 234 - Witch

Chapter 234 – Witch

Meanwhile, in the hallway of the imperial palace of Hendrik Empire, Niall halted from his tracks. He turned his head in the window to his side, lips hooking up into an amused smirk.

When he blinked, the window shattered as a loud crash exploded in his ears. Opening his eyes ever so tenderly, dust from the debris of the wall ascended, only to get blown away by the midnight breeze through the now-wrecked window. Glass shards and dust were on the floor.

He raised his fist, wiping the blood off of his cheek with the back of his glove. He glanced at where the halberd crashed into, seeing that the wall in the hallway had this huge hole.

"Your Majesty!" Knights from the ends of the hallway rushed to see the sudden commotion, only to see one of the emperor's aides was slumped on the floor.

"Isn't she amazing?" Niall muttered, glancing at his aide, who staggered back in shock. "How pathetic."

"Your Majesty! Are you alright?!" asked his aide when he finally snapped back to the current lapse. He hurriedly attempted to stand up, knees wobbly, but he managed to get back on his feet while the knights approached.

"Your Majesty, are you alright?" Niall arched a brow when his right-hand man, Raphael, approached with the knights behind him. The latter glanced at the shattered window and frowned, shifting his attention back to the emperor.

"I am alright, Raphael," the new emperor, Niall, smiled reassuringly. The slight graze on his cheek was slowly healing on its own.

"The lamb had infiltrated Hendrik, Raphael." Raphael's eyes dilated upon Niall's remarks. "And she interrupted the mass executions of the sinners."

Raphael's eyes glinted as they darkened. "Then I will –"

"No need." Niall waved, twisting his neck at the open window, and grinned in delight. "Tell the knights to withdraw and give the prisoners a head start. I'm curious about what she wants to do in this place. Moreover, she might as well help me get my hands on my targets."

"Your Majesty, that is reckless."

"It is…" Niall quirked a brow, his smirk persisting. "… albeit, fun. She will come by one of these days since… the lamb had always favored the wolves, the bears, humans, and the rest except the vampires."

"Order the men to delay the executions and use the runaways as an excuse," he continued, snapping his eyes before resuming in his strides as if nothing happened.

"Yes, Your Majesty."

Niall smirked and whispered as he walked away. "Things will be interesting in this place at last."

I looked at my burnt palm that was slowly healing, clutching it tightly as I glanced down from the chimney I was sitting on. After sending back that burning halberd to Niall, I fled the chaotic scene.

Knowing Niall, he would let the prisoners off the hook temporarily. However, I was certain it was just part of his sick games.

"Everything is just games to him," I muttered and clenched my teeth, looking up at the bright full moon. "Do you now understand? He will destroy this world along with all your children in it."

A shallow breath slipped past my lips. It was pointless talking in here. Even if I screamed, the moon wouldn't respond to me.

Niall was just starting. This was just the tip of the iceberg and I was certain he had more hair-raising plans other than exterminating all races in this world.

"I should meet with Natan and…" I trailed off when I heard a faint thud in front of me. I raised my head, gaze falling on the figure standing on the other end of the roof where I was hiding. A dark cloak flowed along with the night breeze and the person's shadow stretched to me.

My eyes glinted, scrutinizing the person before me. I didn't even feel this person's presence until now.

"You're the lamb?" came out a rasped voice of a woman, pulling down the hood of her cloak ever so slowly. Her jet black hair instantly came into my sight and her deep dark black eyes were akin to a void.

She had a small face, expression calm, yet she gave off an unsettling feeling in my heart. Even so, I knew what she was. She was neither a vampire nor a werewolf.

A witch.

"What does a witch want with me?" I asked without beating around the bush, my eyes holding her somber gaze.

"Were you asking me because you do not know? Or were you trying to see if I allied with the purebloods?" she inquired tonelessly. "You've seen what the new emperor was doing. If you think he was planning to exterminate all humans, you're wrong."

My brows furrowed. What did she mean by that?

"He could always use the humans as his scapegoats. It would be a waste to execute them all just like that," she added and took a deep breath, eyes glinting with contempt. "The real reason behind the mass execution was… he was trying to kill the witches."

This time, my heartbeat slowed down, studying her expression to see if there was a vestige of deception in it. There was none.

"We're aware of the potential war with the werewolves. If you truly care about this, then… come with me." She offered without a second hesitation.

Her eyes never faltered and even when we hadn't exchanged too many flatteries or anything of the sort, I was certain everything that came out of her mouth was true and nothing but the truth.

I planned to see Natan and tell them what was truly happening inside the empire. However, it seemed I had to forget about that first. After all, witches and vampires seemed to still not have a common denominator until now.

"Alright. Lead the way." I nodded in agreement. My eyes never left hers, not even once.

Her jaw tightened as she rocked her head. "The follow me. I'll introduce you to everyone."

"Everyone?" my already furrowed brows knitted even more.

The woman's lips curled up, and I thought her beauty was bewitching.. "Yes, everyone who was against that damn devil."
