True Alpha’s Chosen Mate

Chapter 240 - First Day In Hendrik

Chapter 240 – First Day In Hendrik

Niall simply laughed at my advice before he waved and left. Meanwhile, I stayed on the balcony until morning. I couldn't sleep—I didn't even want to.

I watched as the night sky slowly changed into a deep azure color until the sun peeked from the east. Again, the sun was rising without conditions. Whatever happened last night, no one and nothing would stop it from rising, devouring the darkness that enveloped the world.

"Children who simply want to make their mother happy," I whispered as Niall's words hovered over my head over and over and over again. "Mother, have you heard your child? It's your fault again."

Of course, she had heard Niall's cries. She just chose to pretend she didn't. Our mother, our creator, was a selfish being. I didn't know if she was foolish or too smart. But what I was certain of was that she was someone no one could understand.

"She had loved the wolf…" I added under my breath, lowering my gaze to look at my feet dangling outside the railing. "… that's for sure."

We could consider the wolf was her favorite among her children until the wolf went mad and was punished for his atrocities. But then again, if the wolf had faced the punishment from the gods, how come the wolf was able to escape the empyrean realm?

I had always wondered about it even in the past. Even before I could meet the wolf for the first time, that question already rose in my head. I didn't just dwell on it because it was obvious.

The wolf escaped because someone helped him one way or another. If the wolf chose to change from the beginning, vampires wouldn't even exist.

"Ahh…" a soft laugh slipped past my lips as a thought suddenly crossed my head. "Now that I think about it, it doesn't make sense for you to work with the god of the underworld just to subdue the wolf."

I looked up and watched the sky slowly brighten up. "You escaped once again, Moon."

It was just a wild guess, a hypothesis.

"What if… the vampires' real purpose wasn't really to kill the wolf? But become the sacrifice to satisfy the wolf's hunger?" I laughed mockingly as it was quite hilarious and I never thought about this until now. "Niall made it sound like that and I cannot really blame him."

Even if this conclusion was correct or was simply a product of our imagination, it didn't matter. Niall already believed it was something like this. After all, he had a point and I couldn't argue with him. I couldn't debate with him regarding the punishment the vampires had endured after the great holy war.

The wolf was the favorite child. If the children of evil were to become his food, it would sate his hunger and anger. If that were to happen, he would definitely calm down and return to his mother's warm embrace.

"You… should really make your actions clear," I whispered to the person who was probably listening to my voice. Whether she was listening, or my voice was simply drifting along with the wind.

"Because if you don't… we will simply make assumptions that could explain your actions. It will not matter if we guessed it right or not."

Another sigh slipped past my lips as I gazed up, welcoming the sun that was rising in the sky.

"Rise and…" I trailed off and closed my eyes, taking a deep breath, when I heard a voice below the terrace.

"Lam! Look down here!"

I slowly opened my eyes and gazed down, catching Niall's figure. My eyes veered to the severed finger in between his thumb and index. He was swaying it playfully before tossing it up to me.

I caught it on instinct before I heard him yell, "it's a witch's finger!"

"That is not something to boast about," I muttered, opening my grasp to see the severed finger. Even though it looked like what a severed finger would look like, I could feel the dark energy emanating from him.

"It's the finger of the person who played with my head last night."

I froze as my breath hitched for a moment. When I shifted my eyes back to him, the side of his lips turned up into a playful smirk.

"I'm jesting, but it only shows you know who it was." I clicked my tongue, and he shrugged mischievously. "Anyway, come down here. I'll show you around."

I thought after our conversation last night, he wouldn't bother me. He looked pissed, after all. However, it seemed I was wrong. It was not like it was bad, since no one would know what he would do if I wasn't looking. Wasn't that the reason I was in this place in the first place?

I glanced up and set my eyes in the direction of the east. 'I wonder if they met with the wolves?'

"Are you coming down or what?" I frowned as his impatient voice caressed my ears once again.

"I will, alright?!" I yelled back in irritation. "Just let me look down on you a bit more."

"Oh, come on! That's not fair!"

"I want to step on his face," I grumbled with a deep frown before jumping from the balcony. As I was falling down, Niall blinked twice before hopping a few steps back.

THUD!

"Did you want to land on my face?" he asked in disbelief, hands on his hips, while I straightened my knees and back after landing safely.

"Mhm," came out a hum, expression dead, eyes at him. "You're annoying."

"You, Lam, I mean, Rinnie, or whatever name you are called." He raised a finger, shaking it slightly. "You say I am annoying when you are worse than me. You should be grateful I didn't break that balcony."

"Even if you do, it's not like it will kill me."

"Make sense, but I can also tie your foot to sabotage your landing. I was honestly hoping you'd crash with your head first." My frown grew worse and exchanged glares with him. When he snapped his tongue, he shrugged and pivoted on his heel.

"Anyway, come with me. I'll show you something amazing." He beckoned, walking away.

I stayed in that same spot and sighed. "You mean something dreadful?" I muttered before jogging to follow his tracks.

And I was correct.
