True Alpha’s Chosen Mate

Chapter 45 - Because It's Always You

Chapter 45 – Because It’s Always You

Hugo clicked his tongue as he gave up from trying to force her to open her eyes until she fell asleep. He licked his lip before biting his lower lip, feeling the lingering softness of her lips. Their lips barely touched, but he could feel his body temperature increase.

"How am I going to sleep after that?" he grumbled, observing her breathing until it relaxed. "I hate the fact that she's not a werewolf."

A deep sigh slipped past his lips. If only she was, they were already mating right now. Heck. They would turn this room upside down. Hugo shook his head, pushed himself up, and sat on the edge of the mattress. He rested his arms on his thigh, hanging his head low. Even with the lack of light, his flustered face was evident.

"That's my first kiss." He breathed out, feeling a little gloomy as she just stole it like it was nothing. "I don't even know if she likes it."

He turned his head back, aware that she fell asleep after stealing his first kiss. "Hey, did you like it?" but she didn't answer because she has already fallen asleep.

Surely, this was very unfair to him. While she sleep soundlessly, here he was, trying to control himself from pouncing on her. He wasn't used to this, suppressing his emotions for someone. If he was upset, he had no problem breaking things. If he was angry, he would release it to keep his mind clear.

But this desire he was suppressing? It didn't make him angry, but it was frustrating him in a complicated way he couldn't express in words. Was this because he was a virgin? But he didn't feel this way even when he stood before the most beautiful she-alpha in Ronmin Empire.

"I kept myself clean for you." He sighed for the umpteenth time, rubbing his palm against his face. "Because… it's always you."

From that moment, he got lost in that wood because he ran away from where he met her first. Hugo had always known he wanted her. A puppy love, that was what others told him. But would a puppy love last this long? If that was just simple puppy love, he would've felt attracted to others since he didn't see Rinnie for years.

And yet, all these years, he didn't lust for anyone. There might be days he wouldn't think about her. But every time he did, he would always wonder how she looked like, whether she was eating well, or if she could sleep peacefully because she mentioned one time she was having bad dreams.

Now that they were together again, he couldn't help but worry about her. She liked her as she was, but Rinnie was… dangerous. Not in a way that she could mobilize an empire, but Rinnie herself was dangerous for herself. It wasn't obvious, nor did she know about this, but Hugo was aware that it was a lie whenever she said she was fine.

He didn't doubt her explanation before she fell asleep, but since he was always watching her, he already realize things before she realized them herself.

'Right now, she's just curious about me,' he told himself, setting his eyes on her sleeping face. 'Rinnie, just what am I going to do with you?'

Hugo carefully laid on her side, staring at her while his breathing grew heavy. "How can you trust me so much in a short time? This is why you get deceived, you're too unsuspecting." Once again, a deep sigh escaped his nostrils.

"It's even better if you show a bit of cautiousness. In that case, I can tease you for a bit," he muttered, staring at her in silence. He couldn't sleep as his heart was literally hammering in his chest; he could even hear it drumming in his ears to the point it was annoying.

If not for those vampires, Hugo wouldn't torture himself like this. But… Ashton was a capable vampire. If he was against other werewolves, he could've survived. Unfortunately, Ashton was up against Hugo, a true alpha, and not just a normal alpha.

If the Hendrik Empire had sent stronger vampires, they would be in trouble.

"What do they want from you, my Rinnie?" he wondered, closing his eyes while she squeezed herself to her. He sighed and stroked her back like a child.

"Whatever." He shut his eyes, forcing himself to sleep. Hugo might not understand or guess what those vampires wanted from her, but one thing he was certain of was that they needed to return to the Ronmin Empire. In there, she was safer and no vampires could infiltrate it easily.

Also, he met a few wolves from Ronmin earlier this morning, asking him to return all at once. If his father sent those cowering wolves to him, that only meant he didn't care anymore if those wolves didn't return for as long as they delivered his message.

'He'll scold me for sure.'

*******

[Hendrik Empire]

A man sauntered through the cold, empty hallway. The light from the torches on the unfurnished wall danced on his pale, emotionless face. His careful footsteps echoed softly until they ceased as soon as he reached a stair going down to the dungeon.

The stairs were dark, with no source of light. But the man didn't even hesitate to take the steps down. As he entered the dark, the unlit torches on the wall lit up on their own, one after another, giving him enough light to see a little further ahead.

Soon, he finally reached the last step. Turning to his left, that was leading to another long hallway. This time, his footsteps grew louder while the torches on the walls lit up on their own. After a while, the man stopped in front of the large door. He just gazed at it, snapping his eyes calmly as the large door suddenly creaked open from the inside.

The man didn't speak, pushing the door a little more as he entered. As soon as he stepped afoot inside, his eyes landed on the man with long, white hair, sitting up on the bed. He bowed at the person inside.

"Ashton is dead, Your Highness," he reported politely. "The Princess is apparently with a pack of werewolves and they were heading back to the Ronmin Empire. We hadn't identified which pack it was, but for them to wipe out the crown prince's troop, they're not to be underestimated"

Azazel, the fourth prince of the Hendrik Empire, ran his fingers through his long white hair. He didn't even flinch or did he show surprise about the report.

"What are Niall's plans?" the long-haired man's voice was soft and calm, shifting his argent eyes towards the person standing near the door.

"The Crown Prince, apparently, didn't give an order yet."

Azazel kept silent as he gazed down and spoke in a quiet voice. "Aside from the emperor of the Ronmin Empire, there is only one werewolf who will not hesitate to wage a war against vampires, Cedrick. The rumored strongest werewolf, Uno."

"But Your Highness, why would such a person want with the Princess?" Cedrick furrowed his brows, a little baffled as he had heard about this seventh prince and also the Grand Duke of Belcoot. It was said that that werewolf shredded the previous Grand Duke with his bare hands just because he liked Belcoot and wanted to use the former's house as his vacation home.

"Do you think the Ronmin Empire already knows about her?" his expression grew grim.

"No." Azazel shook his head lightly. "But even if they do, that isn't important. Make sure the Princess enters the Ronmin Empire without a problem. We can't let Niall get his hands on that girl."

"Yes, Your Highness."
