Chapter 68 - A Werewolves Instinct
Chapter 68 – A Werewolves Instinct
Thanks to Daniel's interference, he dragged the grumpy Hugo with him and we resumed to our destination. The hot spring they had been talking about was, indeed, a place one could relax. Situated in an elevated area at the back of the inner palace, the overlooking view of the capital just made this place perfect.
The houses looked tiny, but the lights were like stars. My eyes softened as my body relaxed under the warm water spring embracing me.
"Sister Rinnie, you should run away from that big bad wolf." I snapped my eyes and set them to Sally. "You didn't notice it because you're human, but earlier, he is really set to kill someone. Look at Teresa and Priscilla. They can barely recover from the shock!"
I glanced at Teresa and Priscilla, who were leaning on the other end of the large spring. They said nothing and just looked at me with a frown. After our encounter with Hugo, those two were oddly silent and gloomy.
"Sally, if you keep feeding that idea to Rinnie, you might inflict Hugo's wrath." I shifted my eyes to Alice while she sauntered towards the spring with a towel wrapped around her body. Before she dipped herself in the spring, she removed the towel and I instantly looked away to hide my flustered face.
Alice's body was like an hourglass, with skin so soft like a baby. Not to mention her intimidating bust and buttocks. She was not only stunning, but she also had a perfect body. Cora followed from behind her, but unlike Alice, she was already walking naked without a care in the world. She also had an impressive body, although Cora's body was mostly trained muscles despite being lean.
"Uh… this is the best," Cora moaned as soon as she lowered her body in the spring. "I think I can forgive that ungrateful rascal."
"You should also take it easy, Cora. Are you pregnant? You're too moody." Alice chuckled while gazing at her sister.
"How I wish."
"Anyway, let's forget about Hugo for now. We shouldn't let his negativity affect us." Alice clapped as her eyes lingered on Teresa and Priscilla. "Alright?"
"How can that be, big sister? I thought I will die earlier," Priscilla muttered dejectedly.
"I'm now worried about sister Rinnie. How can you survive such a temperamental man? Although it is shocking that he actually apologized for the first time in his life, I'm still worried," Teresa added as she swam towards me. She stopped in front of me, looking at me with utter concern.
"Sister Rinnie, I don't mind not meeting my mate anymore. Just save yourself from big brother Hugo. He is truly dangerous. How was it so easy for him to pull an aura to his sisters?"
"Uhm…" I scanned their faces with closed-lipped. I appreciated that they were genuinely concerned about my well-being. But, what I couldn't understand was their opinions towards their brother. It was obvious last night that they liked Hugo, even though they mostly talked bad things behind his back. I assumed it was just their normal relationship. But now, they were truly worried about me and sincerely believed Hugo was dangerous.
I hummed and mustered my courage to ask a question. "May I know why Hugo is such a dangerous person?"
They looked at each other for a second before Alice cleared her throat. They were all silent as Alice explained why they were acting like that while I listened attentively, afraid I would miss something.
To summarize Alice's explanation, they still believed Hugo wouldn't hurt his family. That there was still a part of him that treasured them. However, werewolves, a race whose instincts were part of their lives and identity, couldn't shrug off the feeling of hostility when someone bore malicious intention.
For instance, Hugo's aura earlier reeked with strong bloodlust, so werewolves who had weaker will would instinctively bow their heads. Despite that, at the back of their head, they knew Hugo wouldn't hurt them, their instinct told them otherwise. The hostility was the initial reaction of werewolves when faced with such a dangerous aura.
It was safe to say it was a reaction they could barely control unless a werewolf was strong, just like Cora, Alice, and Sally. That was why werewolves wouldn't pull an aura to their family for no reason; the thing was, Hugo would pull an aura to them that triggered those reactions.
Hence, the hostility they bore towards him.
"So, in other words, you didn't really mean for me to leave him, right?" I cocked my head to the side, as their instincts would usually overpower their reasons. I stared at Teresa, but she bit her lower lip and gazed down.
"We do, Rinnie, but at the same time, we don't." Alice rocked her head lightly. "We still wish for Hugo to gain his happiness, but because of his actions, we couldn't help but have these conflicting feelings."
"I see," came out a weak voice as I glanced at them once again. Cora had already fallen asleep with her head resting over the spring. For some reason, after hearing Alice's explanation, I couldn't shrug off this restlessness in my heart.
Unlike humans who could control their emotions and had options to follow or not to follow our instincts, werewolves were different. Their instincts were already a huge part of their life, and even if they didn't want to, they had no option but to succumb to it.
'I wonder…' my eyes lingered on Alice's side profile as she embraced Priscilla like a mother. '… who was hurt the most between you and your lover before, Alice? Did you resent your instincts back then?'
I wanted to ask Alice those questions, although she made it sound like it was nothing. But dwelling on these thoughts would help no one.
"Right! Wine and snacks!" Alice recalled as she clapped, remembering that we planned to bond over some wine and snacks while bathing. I also tried to not dwell on the curse-like instinct and smiled like usual.
Little did I know, the power of alcohol would make me want to disappear from the surface of this world the next day.
