Chapter 731 – Miaomiao’s Idea
Despite being in the middle of chaos, inner disciples, elders, Sima Yi, and other cultivators fought well. They displayed their unique soul domains, laws, and abilities that negated the orc’s Qi and power.
Meanwhile, someone was enjoying the show while relying on his plot armor and luck.
Sitting in the middle of a burning courtyard was Miaomiao. He was sipping tea, admiring the scenery and the drama. Miaomiao looked up while he took a bite of his cookie with one hand while holding a cup of tea in the other hand.
BOOM
An orc fell from the sky and landed next to Miaomiao, who had been sitting on a marble chair. He glanced at the dead orc and sighed.
“Cultivators these days. During my time, their bodies dissipated into dust and become one with Samsara. Look at these greenhorns. They turn into wet trash after they died. This shows that they never get rid of their fleshly body and become one with the soul. They’re the reason why we are having a climate crisis. How dare you!”
Killer Queen, who had been joining Miaomiao’s tea party in her human form, stared at Miaomiao and furrowed her brows.
“What kind of nonsense are you sprouting?”
“Nothing. I’m just feeling old.”
BOOM
A dead cultivator in a strange uniform fell from the sky and landed on the top of the orc. The corpse then was split in half as he had been cleaved into two.
A crystal ball slipped out from the corpse’s innards. It rolled on the ground and hit Miaomiao’s chair.
Miaomiao used his feet to kick the crystal ball up and catch it. He glanced at it for a moment before he placed it on the table.
Killer Queen drooled.
“A soul core? Can I eat that?”
“No. We’re not residents of Mu-Nyang’s dantian universe anymore, so we can’t consume a soul. Leave the core alone and give it back to his relatives or something.”
“Bummer. I want to eat that.”
“Eat this instead.”
Miaomiao tossed a Dao Stone to Killer Queen. She caught it with her mouth and chew it in glee.
While Killer Queen was chewing the Dao Stone, Mao Shan landed on the ground and walked toward Miaomiao. He stared at his son, astounded by the latter’s cool-headedness during the chaotic battle.
“Miao’er, what are you doing?”
Miaomiao raised his teacup, “Oh. Hi, dad. Want some cookies?”
“No. But why are you doing nothing while the others are fighting? Someone of your caliber should’ve contributed something.”
“Do I even have a chance to fight?”
“Give it a try.”
“I should give you an example. First off, I’ll attack that stupid orc in the sky with my sword Qi-“
Miaomiao pointed at the stray orc, who was charging toward Miaomiao and Killer Queen.
BOOM
Unfortunately, debris from the flying battleship in the sky landed on the orc and crushed it to a meat paste.
Miaomiao stared at the unlucky orc. He slowly pulled back his finger and looked at his father.
“See? Whenever I tried to contribute, something always happened to my prey.”
“…”
“I don’t know why, but I just can’t get into the fight no matter how hard I try.”
“Try harder! Don’t be lazy!”
“Sure.”
Miaomiao pointed his finger toward the sky, where the orcs and the cultivators from the battleships were entangling in a group fight.
BOOM
Before Miaomiao could even shoot a sword beam from his fingertip, the group of immortals in the sky activated a strange law domain. A blue force field appeared, and all orcs were burnt to crisp. However, by doing so, their allies were blasted away by the force field, and they suffered heavy injuries.
Miaomiao stared at the force field with a dull expression while Mao Shan widened his eyes in astonishment.
“Was that your skill?”
“Of course not! That is not my domain.”
“Oh, I see. I sense the constellation law of anti-orc there. I think every orc in that field is dead, but it harms ally cultivators in the field, too. It’s too dangerous to use that in war.”
Being reminded about the unique law powers of this universe, Miaomiao changed the subject.
“You never taught me about laws. What are laws and why does everyone seem to master laws before they can even use Dao?”
“Laws are the Will of Pangu. Every living being in the world was born from Pangu’s flesh and blood, so we can naturally use a fracture of his power. Everyone can naturally use one or two laws when they become a full-fledged adult. Come to think of it, you are still too young to awaken your first law. You have to wait a few years before you can use that.”
“…”
The background of this world sounded sketchy. Everything sounded like a scheme or propaganda, made by Pangu or his followers. Still, the local cultivators’ natural talent was not something to be scoffed at since they were as strong as protagonists.
Miaomiao waited for Mu-Nyang’s explanation, but the cat didn’t butt in this time. He ended up listening to Mao Shan’s lecture while everybody else slaughtered orcs and lizardmen left and right.
A few minutes later, the battle ended. The Celestial Sword Sect and the reinforcement of the Wu Dynasty Empire annihilated the invaders.
However, instead of celebrating their survival, Mao Shan and the surviving cultivators looked unhappy.
Mao Shan patted Miaomiao’s shoulder and whispered.
“All inner disciples might be mobilized to join the war soon. Be prepared, Miao’er.”
“I know.”
“Be careful. It won’t be as easy as this time. We’re up against the Asura Kingdom.”
Mao Shan flew toward the flagship of the reinforcement army. Many elders, including Sima Yi, also gathered there to formally greet to helpers.
Miaomiao sat on his marble chair and leaned forward. He reached for another piece of cookie, but the plate was empty.
Killer Queen already ate everything. She was currently licking her fingers.
“Can I have more, Miaomiao?”
“…”
.
At night, Mao Shan summoned all inner disciples to the grand hall of the sect. All surviving disciples attended the meeting even though they were injured.
Among 1,000 members, 135 were killed in action; 750 were injured, and the rest was fine. Only Miaomiao and Tang Ting, who didn’t run into a single fight, were in perfect shape.
Mao Shan gazed at the disciples and let out a heavy sigh. The orcs had done a number on his sect, and many hired immortals died.
“I have three bad news,” Mao Shan announced. “We lost 135 inner disciples, three core disciples, two elders, and seven immortal guardians.”
The inner disciples lowered their heads as they understood the tragedy. None of them wanted this to happen, but they did their best to protect the citizen of Pirate Hunter City and their juniors.
“Second bad news. The army that hit us wasn’t even the main force. The main force of Asura Kingdom was confronting the USW navy to the south when we were fighting. Also, today USW has suffered heavy casualties and retreated. Soon, the Asura Kingdom’s main forces will be coming for us next.”
“…”
The disciples and elders glanced at each other as they weren’t confident about fighting the entire kingdom of monsters by themselves. This responsibility was too heavy for their sect alone.
“Third bad news. The Shu Han Republic refuses to send us reinforcement as usual. Those hypocrites said they didn’t have enough fighters to protect their citizens. Can you even believe that when their military strength is as strong as Wu Dynasty Empire?!”
Mao Shan was infuriated when he mentioned the Shu Han Republic. It seemed that he was not in a good term with that country.
“Fourth bad news…”
Everyone in the room complained in their mind.
‘I thought you said three bad news.’
“Emperor Sun Jian gave us an edict, ordering us to provide support. As usual, we’re the strongest sect in their country, and they want us to help them.”
“…”
The disciples and elders stopped moving or talking. Their faces turned white as they didn’t want to join another war right now. Although they loved fighting, participating in the war was another story.
“We have no choice. We will follow the edict of Sun Jian and join their army. Those who are injured, you should rest when you can. I’ll tell you the date we need to mobilize our forces tomorrow. That will be all. You’re dismissed.”
Mao Shan stood up and was about to leave. However, at the back of the crowd, someone raised his hands.
“Before we leave, can I make a suggestion?”
Everyone turned around and looked at the speaker.
Miaomiao pushed through the crowd to get closer to his father. He ignored the stares.
“What is it, Mao Miaomiao?”
Even though Miaomiao was Mao Shan’s son, the latter didn’t talk to him like they used to. He took a formal stance, showing everybody that he didn’t play favorites.
“Can’t we use the array formation that you used at Pirate Hunter City? You kinda weakened the monsters there, and you should be using it more.”
Mao Shan and every cultivator frowned at Miaomiao. Some of them shook their heads while Mao Shan covered his face with his hand.
“Mao Miaomiao. Do you know that the Sealing Array affects everybody inside the array, including our forces nearby?”
“Yes. So?”
“Why should we weaken our army’s strength to weaken a portion of their troops? Our allies in the array will be vulnerable to the monsters outside the array.”
“But why should we be the one to station near the array?”
“Huh?”
Miaomiao scratched his head as he found his father and the others dull.
“Look. Have we forgotten that otherworlders are going around in Pirate Hunter City for a while?”
“Yes, but they are weak… Wait.”
Mao Shan and others caught on to something. Some of them were inspired.
Miaomiao used this opportunity to push his plan.
“Instead of sending our disciples and elders to die, how about we commission otherworlders some quests. We will use only a few personnel to operate the arrays while the otherworlders will be the main fighting units inside the arrays. They are a bunch of 1st-stage and 2nd-stage cultivators, and they can self-resurrect. Why don’t we use them as cannon fodders?”
Many jaws dropped to the ground. Their eyes brightened.
“Genius!”
“Outstanding move!”
“That’s right. We have them!”
“That’s not all. We can gain rewards by commissioning quests!”
The gloomy hall became lively as everybody saw hope. Many inner disciples secretly saluted Miaomiao, admiring his wisdom.
Miaomiao glanced at Sima Yi. Unfortunately, the strategist was still out cold, and Nobunaga was in charge of the body. The latter refused to comment.
Mao Shan was flabbergasted. He stared at Miaomiao in disbelief for 10 seconds before his expression got better.
He was elated. Witnessing his son’s growth before his eyes was a father’s greatest joy.
“To think that my son has grown. Good… Very good! My proud son, I shall share your idea with the generals of the Wu Empire. We shall employ your tactics right away! If we manage to win with this plan, I shall reward you handsomely!”
Miaomiao cupped his fist, “I’m just doing my part.”
Mao Shan laughed. He gazed at the people in the hall, whose morale was recovered.
“You heard him! Contact every otherworlders you see! Give them quests! Gather them in front of our sect within tomorrow noon. Also, contact Castellan Tang Fan and let him know that we want to use his Seal Array!”
“YES, SIR!”
“Now, go! There is no time to waste!”
The disciples dispersed and flew out of the sect, searching for every player they could see.
