Chapter 267 – The Mutt That Follows Ji Yao Around
"I will take care of this," said Ji Yao before thrashing his sword which suddenly extended into a whip.
Dong Jie, "…"
'RUI YOU FUCKING BASTARD!!!' he bellowed internally as he eyed that sword that seemed normal but was growing into segments with sharp barbs and dazzling golden flames.
Dong Jie was already sweating bullets where he stood but his plan seemed to be working because in the corridor one deck lower an invisible figure was roaming around looking for the brig of the ship. The corridors were empty but despite this, she couldn't find what she was looking for. Lucky for her, her brother was distracting this entire crew otherwise if she was to get caught she might not be able to survive. She could teleport anyone as far as she wants but her combat skills were horrible, to say the least.
They never took on jobs with people stronger than them but the offer this time was so tempting that they both agreed to it. It's just that she was sweating profusely the longer it took her to find the target.
It seemed the universe was truly on her side today because she finally found the room she was looking for.
She walked over to the closed wooden door and stood outside for a moment gathering her courage before walking in. The space was too comfortable for it to be called a brig. It was clean, spacious and well decorated you would think it was part of a fancy mansion. She quietly closed the door and walked through the narrow hallway.
When she reached the end of the corridor she was met by a cold dark cell with latrion bars as thick as a baby's arm. Curious, her brow creased as she took a step forward. The nice-looking cell was empty with chains scattered everywhere. At a first glance, she could tell that those chains were made of latrion the only metal that can bring a half Nocru to their knees.
"He-hello, master Qilin. I, I am here to rescue you," she stammered while walking closer to the latrion bars. She peeked in with her nose sticking in through the latrion bars to the other side of the cell.
A sudden gust of wind blew in front of her and a handsome yet cold faced man stood in front of her his unkempt hair partially covering his face. He grabbed her by the collar and pulled her in with a crazed expression. The hood of her invisible cloak flew open as her face was pressed against the latrion bars.
Terrified her face drained of all colour as she struggled to get free but this man placed his index finger on her lips gesturing that she should shut up. "Shh, shh. If you make any noise I will kill you."
Frightened so much by this man that resembled a demon straight out of hell, she nodded her head forgetting that Qilin Kai was subdued by the latrion.
With his dirty hand, he squeezed either side of the girl's cheeks and pulled her closer. "What does the one who sent you want with me?" he asked curious to know what sort of reason one would have to risk coming on this ship. It was obvious this weakling was only being used by someone, someone who wanted him out of here so bad.
He knew it couldn't be Qilin Luse and if it is him then it meant what awaited him outside was an ambush. Even so, this wasn't Qilin Luse's style. Besides him, there was no one else he had a connection with.
"Emp-emperor Rui he, he paid us to get you out" she replied feeling so terrified that she almost wet her pants.
Qilin Kai's brows knitted as he stared at her with a vexed expression for a while. He had no idea where he heard this Rui person before. The name was so familiar to him but for the life of him, he couldn't put a face to the name. That's when it hit him. That mutt that followed Ji Yao around must be called Rui something. How was this related to that brat?
"Is it that mutt running around with my dearest nephew?" he asked with his expression as ugly as the bottom of a shoe after accidentally stepping on shit.
She had no idea what mutt but it definitely couldn't be the new emperor so she shook her head in refusal with reddened eyes. She almost broke down to tears staring at this man who looked like a monster.
"My brother can't ke-keep them distracted for long. We, we should leave," she said in a brittle voice. She would rather leave him behind chained and take her brother off the ship but that meant they wouldn't be safe on land and sea either.
They had already offended one great god and couldn't afford to offend Emperor Rui as well. Since she had made a deal with the devil she was forced to keep it or die.
Qilin Kai knew that this Rui person wanted something from him and it was most likely related to that annoying mutt but he didn't have time to think it through properly as they were running out of time. He let her go and she staggered backwards before steadying herself.
Qilin Kai snorted coldly towering over her from within the prison bars. He tsked and said, "How pathetic."
A bit of hatred flashed in her eyes before it swiftly disappeared. She hurriedly got up to her feet, made a subtle hand signal and reappeared in the brig. In haste, she loosened some of the chains leaving only the ones binding his wrist.
She was about to unlock those when she heard hurried footsteps coming their way. "Shit!" she swore before staring at Qilin Kai and the two of them vanished leaving only a white flash.
Rui Li and Rui Yewan who had been sent down here when Rui Fei noticed something was wrong were just in time to see the flash of white light before the brig was empty again. "Damn it," mumbled Rui Li before rushing out of the brig. Rui Yewan followed suit his heart unsettled. They all personally witnessed what Qilin Kai could do and now that he was out nothing good will come from it.
"He is gone," said Rui Li with heavy breaths as she unsheathed her sabre. She wanted to beat up bubblegum man to death. Rui Yewan held her wrist to stop her. Ji Yao didn't need any help dealing with this man, she would only get in the way.
As expected Ji Yao took down the man promptly. He thrashed the man's body out of the sky with his whip splitting Dong Jie's face. Blood and flesh splattered on the ground as he wailed. Ji Yao landed on the main deck and stepped on his bleeding face with his boots.
The man couldn't bear the pain screaming in agony with his face pressed to the ground. "Yao-ge," called out Rui Fei his expression sullen, "Qilin Kai is gone."
The fierce expression on Ji Yao's face became even more terrifying as he pressed his leg down in anger. "Who the fuck sent you? Speak!"
