Chapter 317 - The Power Of Overprotective Brothers
Chapter 317 – The Power Of Overprotective Brothers
"When I grow up, I want a son first then a daughter. So my son would beat up any boy that makes my little girl cry – Mia James.
Certainly, emperor Rui wasn't thinking this when his last born at the time was a little princess. All he thought was how powerful would that offspring be so he can expand his power. Though it wasn't his intention his sons were indeed overprotective of Rui Li.
They might not show it all the time because she could protect herself but when they felt something was wrong they would step up and take care of her. For instance, right now they had just found out she was missing and instantly began to look for her.
Rui Li on the other hand didn't know that her absence had caused trouble. She was sitting opposite the handsome brother who was hugging his knees trying to get as far away from her as possible.
Rui Li could read his body language but she didn't care. She had already decided to make friends with him so she tried by any means necessary to get him to warm up to her. "*Sigh… I told you my name but you don't even want to tell me yours. At least tell me what happened to your arms and legs," she said staring at the bruises left by the ropes.
She reached out to touch the wound but before she could touch him he moved his legs back a little with a slight tremble. Rui Li withdrew her hand and said, "I have an elixir that can instantly heal you. Let me take care of your wounds." She shuffled through her storage pouch taking out the contents.
Soon the damp ground was chaotic with piles of books, toys and bottles. It seemed, unlike her brothers she was disorganized putting everything haphazardly in her storage except for her most priced novels which were neatly organized from favourite to most favourite.
When she found the healing elixir she smiled happily and said, "Found it," while holding up the bottle. She packed away the mess on the ground and scooched over but the boy still moved back unwilling to interact with her.
His soulless eyes were buried in between his knees refusing to look at her. Rui Li's brow creased as she bit her lip in frustration. Wasn't she only trying to help him? So why was he treating her like scourge?
Pouting with her soft cheery coloured lips glistening under the dim sunlight coming through the gaps between the overhead leaves she took out a small wooden bento. Inside was an assortment of dried meat Rui Fei insisted she carries just in case she gets hungry. It wasn't the only thing she had in her bag of goodies but this was the first thing she could think of.
"Here," she said handing him a piece. The boy finally raised his head and looked at the piece of meat with a fervour expression. Seeing this Rui Li smiled as she took another piece and ate it.
"See, it's not poisoned. Mm… have some," she said urging him on. The boy reached out but before he could touch the piece of dried meat she pulled back her hand and said, "I will give it to you only if you let me rub the medicine on your injuries."
He looked like he was thinking about it seriously before he lightly nodded his head. Rui Li smiled happily and let him have the piece. She watched him as he hesitantly opened his mouth and take a bite so small you would think he was a fish taking tiny bites.
His soulless eyes suddenly lit up and his bite sizes became bigger. Seeing this cute appearance Rui Li wanted to pat his head and she did. The boy's weak body stiffened as his eating action paused for a while.
Rui Li took back her hand and scooched even closer to apply the medicine. When her fingers touched the cold, dry and flaky skin her expression turned gloomy. She remembered being locked up and being in a much worse condition than this boy. What made it worse was that it was her own father who did that to her.
This is why she couldn't help but sympathize with this skinny boy who had obviously been through a lot. At least she still had her older brothers but what about him? He was all alone in a cold forest scared and without a home. She suddenly had the urge to bring him with her and raise him.
But just as the thought crossed her mind the leaves that shielded them from the rest of the world were suddenly slashed away only for her to be met by Rui Fei's deadly glare. Soon after that Rui Yewan peeked in only to find her sister's hand on a strange boy's knee.
His expression immediately changed. He glared at them viciously that one could clearly feel the murderous aura surrounding her. She couldn't understand why the two were mad. Wasn't it just helping a poor soul so why did they look like she was caught kissing a boy under the bleachers at school.
Rui Fei didn't mince words picking up the boy by his collar till they were at eye level. Rui Li who couldn't understand what was going on yelled, "Wait dage, what, what are you doing? Dage!"
She was about to help the little boy who looked like a rag doll under Rui Fei's grasp but Rui Yewan tightly gripped her arm and pulled her aside his anger apparent. It can be said they were freaking out over nothing that is from an outsider's perspective.
Normal people probably wouldn't overreact like this but these two weren't normal people. They had experienced so much hardship that most people won't go through their entire lifetimes. They vowed to protect each other from harm and anyone who had ill intentions. When they saw their little sister with a boy hiding a switch flipped and hence the overreaction.
Rui Fei's overreaction was justified though. That's because out of this entire village this little boy had survived and from the looks of it he was meant to be the sacrifice but he was spared. Why was that? He seemed like a regular human with no ounce of seraphic energy yet he survived. No matter how you looked at it it didn't make sense.
The little boy was way shorter than Rui Fei with a bony weak figure that with only one slap he would most probably breathe his last breath. Faced with Rui Fei's dark expression and bloodthirst eyes the boy quivered in fright.
His eyes that seemed unaffected by this world a second ago were now filled with fear which was an expected reaction considering that the person clutching his lapel was like a heinous villain with no regard for human life.
