VRMMO: THE UNRIVALED

Chapter 1589: Suppressant

Chapter 1589: Suppressant

The next day, 8 am in the morning.

Lin Yixin was sitting on the sofa and staring at me silently. A while later, she said, "Don’t worry, today will definitely be better…"

I nodded. "Mn. And I’ll be right here with you."

It wasn’t long before she began trembling a little. The symptoms arrived at almost the exact time, but they were a lot milder than they had been the day before. This time, she only experienced a minor nosebleed and nothing else. I drew her blood using a syringe and labeled it as she had done it yesterday[1]. My heart ached at the sight of the numerous needle tracks riddling her normally unblemished skin. Lin Yixin had given up almost everything for me.

The girl scrunched up her eyebrows before wiping the sweat on my forehead with a smile. "I’m the one who’s in pain here, so why are you the one who’s nervous? Calm down. As you can see yourself, everything is going fine…"

I smiled. "It looks like most of the virus in your body has been expelled, Yiyi. That is great news…"

"Mn."

Lin Yixin said, "According to the doctors, the viral toxin was supposed to affect my health for 7 days or so. Today’s the 5th day, so it won’t be long now. By the way, your delay is almost 3 seconds, right? Are you sure you won’t drag my feet when I grind at Immortal Cloud Ice Cave later?"

My mouth twitched. "Why are you hurting my feelings? Yes, my reaction speed is slow, but I’m doing this for you, aren’t I?"

"Bullshit. You want to join me because you want my Rank 15 potions…" she said while pushing her huge breasts forward. Her waist looked like it was straining under the weight it was carrying, but I didn’t care; the sight was just too alluring.

I pursed my lips. "It will be fine. Even if I’m delayed, I can still activate Profound Armor and act as your meat shield. You can be the one to manage the DPS…"

"That is true… sigh. I feel so much pressure though. Who would’ve thought that I would one day be forced to grind at a super-high-level map like Immortal Cloud Ice Cave with a third-rate expert…"

"You are courting death, girl!"

I erupted, but her only response was to giggle like a silver bell.

……

At noon before lunch time, a Cadillac parked outside the gate of the Snowy Cathaya workshop. Then, a couple of men in black suits stepped out and walked toward us. The guy at the forefront was none other than the CEO of Eternal Moon’s China Branch, Xu Ning. The people with employee badges behind him were obviously the geneticists.

I walked up and greeted the entourage, "Did you come here to visit Xinran, Uncle Ning? She’s still at my workshop though!"

He replied with a small smile on his face, "I know. I visited her before I came over to find you."

"You’re here to see me? What business do you have with me?"

He lifted the briefcase he was holding and said, "After 24 hours of non-stop working, the Californian institute has come up with the first batch of suppressants. They created it after studying the deterioration of the toxin in Lin Yixin’s blood. They claim that its success rate is over 90%. While it cannot eliminate the toxin in your body, they say that it can suppress the symptoms and soothe your pain…"

I nodded. "I see. Well, come in!"

After we went to the living room, Xu Ning placed the briefcase on the table and opened it. Nangong Lexi, Sun Qingqing and Shadow Chanel were staring at the scene with wide eyes. Lin Yixin was looking at me with worry.

There were three blue metallic syringes in the briefcase. I had only ever seen something like this in movies. I had never thought that I would one day go through such an experience, until that day.

I stretched out my arm and rolled up my sleeves. The purplish veins covering my entire arm shocked Nangong Lexi and Sun Qingqing so much that they had to cover their mouths to stop themselves from screaming. Lin Yixin on the other hand wore a look of deep worry and distress on her face. She asked softly, "Does it hurt, Little Cheat?"

I shook my head. "Nah, it doesn’t hurt at all."

"But I clearly heard you grunting in pain last night…"

"That was… er…"

Xu Ning said smilingly, "Don’t worry, the suppressant should help with the pain as well. Are you ready, Lu Chen?"

"Do it, Uncle Ning!" I nodded.

One of the scientists walked up to me and picked up the syringe labeled "#1”. He then stabbed the needle slowly into my arm. It hurt like a bitch of course, like, did you see how goddamn big the needle was? No? Well, it was.

The blue fluid injected into my body felt cool yet refreshing. When the needle was finally removed, I realized that I hadn’t breathed throughout the entire process and hurriedly gulped down a mouthful of fresh air.

"How is it?" Lin Yixin asked me with concern. "Does it hurt?"

I replied smilingly, "It hurts so bad I could die, dear…"

Lin Yixin hit me, but she was smiling. "Stop joking, you!"

Xu Ning said, "These suppressants will only work for 24 hours, so you must remember to use the syringe labeled ‘#2’ at this time, and #3 the day after[2]!"

I asked, "I see only 3 syringes in the briefcase. Is there no #4 syringe?"

"To avoid your body developing immunity, all of the suppressants work differently… and a fourth combination hasn’t been researched yet…"

"..."

Xu Ning chuckled at my dumbfounded expression, "Relax, we’ve mobilized nearly half of the geneticists and biologists in the entire world to tackle your sickness. I am sure that the fourth suppressant will be created very soon. Anyway, do you feel any changes in your body? Does it hurt or something?"

I raised my arm a little and found it lighter than normal. Then, it felt like someone had lit a fire within my veins. I abruptly collapsed into the sofa beside Lin Yixin and started sweating like crazy. "Holy shit, this is even more painful than I thought! I…"

Xu Ning nodded. "Yes, that is the expected outcome. The suppressant is killing the virus inside your body, so it’s obviously going to hurt a lot. Professor Liu, give him a painkiller and see if it can alleviate his pain!"

Before I could react, the scientists held my left arm down and injected me with the painkiller.

Everyone was looking at me right now. Lin Yixin was using a tissue to wipe my sweat until she abruptly discovered that it was stained with blood. She blurted, "What is this?"

Xu Ning consoled her, "It’s also the expected reaction. The toxin inside his body is being expelled out of his pores. I would be extremely worried if that didn’t happen…"

He then looked at me and asked, "Lu Chen, the painkiller should have taken effect by now. Does it still hurt?"

I was clenching my fists and trembling like a leaf from the sheer amount of pain that was wracking my entire body. I just barely managed to squeeze out a reply, "Uncle Ning… your painkiller… is completely useless!"

Beside me, Professor Liu chuckled. "Actually, no. If you haven’t had the painkiller, you would’ve fainted from the pain already. That you haven’t proves that the painkiller is working as intended."

I quipped sarcastically, "Oh yeah? Thank you so much for keeping me conscious to feel it then…"

"You’re welcome. It’s our duty."

I rolled my eyes at him before returning to suffering in silence.

The pain only lasted ten minutes or so, but the painful process felt like a year. Nearly my entire body was drenched in bloodied sweat, and I felt like I could collapse at any moment. When it was finally over though, the pain abruptly vanished like it was never there. It felt like an invisible weight had been lifted off my body, and even my vision and strength had returned to me. I felt like I went from the bottom of the well all the way to my highest peak!

I rose to my feet and clenched my fists. I couldn’t stop myself from grinning, "Holy shit, it works! This suppressant is amazing!"

Xu Ning nodded and patted me once on the shoulder. "Yes. Maintaining a healthy mindset helps in eliminating the toxin as well. Anyway, you should take a bath now. Your entire body is drenched in blood and sweat, isn’t it?"

I shook my head. "No, I want to eat lunch first. I feel like I can eat an entire cow right now. Uncle Ning, professors, why don’t you guys join us for lunch? I promise you that Snowy Cathaya’s meals are very good. It so happens that today’s meals have greater variety than normal as well…"

Xu Ning smiled. "Are you sure it won’t bother you?"

Lin Yixin said, "Of course not. In fact, we will truly be bothered if you don’t stay around for lunch. You’ve flown all the way from Beijing just to treat Lu Chen’s sickness. Treating you to lunch is the least we can do to thank you."

"In that case, we shall fulfill our duties as the guests of this house. It’s certainly a better choice than having to look for a restaurant at this time…"

All the girls in the workshop smiled at that. Snowy Cathaya booked their lunches from a restaurant, so they didn’t have to worry about lack of variety or quantity. As for today, they just needed to tell the restaurant to prepare ten people’s worth of rice.

……

The suppressant not only returned me to my peak, but also restored my appetite. It had been a long time since I had been able to enjoy a meal to my heart’s content. However, Lin Yixin was frowning because her toxin-induced pain hadn’t fully dissipated yet. I gave her hand a squeeze and caused her to turn toward me. She shot me a beautiful smile and said, "I’m fine. Just enjoy your meal!"

"Mn!"

I took a bath in Lin Yixin’s bathroom after lunch. When I walked out, Lin Yixin passed me a stack of clothes and said, "Here. Lexi just bought this from Heilan Home. I had to throw away the ones you were wearing because I couldn’t wash out the bloodstains."

I groaned, "Ah, my Versace… It was a gift from you too…"

Lin Yixin giggled. "It’s fine. I’ll buy you some new ones later. Don’t wear them when you inject yourself with the second suppressant though. A full set of Versace is worth tens of thousands of RMB…"

"I know…"

……

Lin Yixin’s adverse reaction fully subsided that afternoon, and all 7 blood samples had been passed to the geneticists. They then left to fly to their next destination, wherever that was. As for me, I went shopping with Lin Yixin, and she bought two new sets of Versace as she said she would. Then, we returned to the workshop and logged back into the game. I had promised to gather some Rank 15 herbs with her at the Immortal Cloud Ice Cave after all.

Before that, He Yi gave me a call to inquire about my condition. After hearing that I had taken a suppressant, she drove over with the girls to see how I was doing with her own eyes. After confirming that I was doing much better than I had been yesterday, she went back saying that she needed to prepare for tonight’s WEL matches. The bright smiles on her and everyone else’s faces were exactly what I needed to see at that moment.

I logged into the game.

Swhoosh!

After appearing in Sky City, I walked straight out of the adventurer’s inn and headed toward the eastern bridge. There was no need to repair my equipment or stock up on consumables since I hadn’t done anything yesterday.

Near the eastern gate, I saw a dark-haired beauty clad in godlike armor looking out toward the horizon. She then turned toward me and favored me with her purple, starry eyes and radiant smile.

I couldn’t help but praise after I walked up to her, "You are my gift from the heavens, Yiyi…"

Lin Yixin smiled playfully. "Oh really? You’re not going to get touchy-feely with me, are you?"

"Not here, of course…"

While saying so, I unsheathed the Xuanyuan Sword and fired Burning Blade Slash out of habit. Then, I froze like a statue.

"What’s wrong, Little Cheat?" Lin Yixin asked after noticing my odd behavior.

I said in a trembling voice, "Yiyi, I… I’m not delayed anymore…"
