Chapter 716: Second Year Of Potions
In the end, Lisa was the winner and she got to decide how they would handle the dragon parts which Emilia was obviously not happy about.
At least they weren’t fighting anymore I guess?
Also… I thought things might change between Emilia and I but she doesn’t seem any different from before despite the fact that we had sex.
Well… At least we didn’t kiss yet so we’re not officially a thing I guess? Since that’s a bigger deal here right?
Sometimes I forget about these kinds of things…
Or I guess… More likely… She saw it as a business transaction and nothing more than that. I would say that was kind of in line with what she’s like.
Anyway… It’s back to school again and I was attending my first Alchemy class of the year.
For this class in particular, I noticed that the number of classmates actually got smaller this year instead.
I’m guessing a number of them dropped out of class or something? Not that I don’t understand why though… Alchemy isn’t for everyone after all and to the other students… Lisa was a cold and unapproachable beauty.
“First class of the year today. All of you managed to make it past a year so congratulations. Now let’s see if you retained anything after the holidays. Proceed to create a Lesser healing potion now.”
Oh geez, Lisa… First day of the class and you’re already driving us like that… Not that this is hard for me anyway.
I picked up the Milgras herbs that were left on our tables and I started the process of creating the potion.
It didn’t take that long for me to brew my potions and I already had several bottles of them placed in front of me before anyone else in the class even finished.
I leaned back and looked at the bottles feeling proud that I still know how to make this despite not using alchemy for so long.
That was when I felt a pair of arms wrap around me from behind and I got pulled back without warning.
I found myself falling backwards until the back of my head hit something soft, revealing it to be Lisa’s chest.
I looked up to see my Infrid smiling down at me and she moved her face close to mine.
Instantly, I figured out what she wanted so I let my lips part and allowed her to kiss me on the lips.
Her tongue pushed against my lips before darting past it to curl around my tongue, both of us wrestling with each other’s tongues for a while before we broke the kiss.
She giggled, “Ehehehe~ I love you, Aster~”
“I love you too, Lisa. But shouldn’t you be focusing on your lessons instead of flirting with your student?”
“Oh, I’m not flirting, I’m merely kissing my soul mate~”
“Uh huh… What happened to keeping our relationship a secret?”
“Pfft~ Everyone else is too occupied with their potion brewing to even notice us. You’re the only one who is able to brew a potion this fast in the class, Aster.”
“Well… Shouldn’t you be watching over everyone to make sure they aren’t going to blow the rest of the class up?”
“Oh, I’ll do that in a bit~ I just wanted to stop by and tell you how much I love you first~”
Lisa then released me and went back to walking around the class, changing her expression back to being cold and expressionless instead of the enraptured expression she had with me earlier.
I looked around the class and everyone was still trying to brew the potions in question, most of them still stuck in the preparation phase where they needed to grind the herbs.
Seems like Lisa was right about them being too distracted to notice our little flirting session at the back of the class.
It’s kind of obvious that a few of them had forgotten the steps and needed to refer to their classmates or their notes on how to make the potion.
Since I was already done with the assignment, I thought about trying to make a few more just to see if I could improve my proficiency at it when I heard footsteps approaching me.
Looking up, I realised it was Yisra, one of my classmates in this class.
“Oh, hello Yisra, do you need anything?” I asked.
Her eyes widened, “You… You know my name?”
Not gonna lie, I actually used [Screened] to remember her name but I wasn’t going to tell her that, obviously. But I do remember something she did though.
I nodded at her, “I do. You spilled over a cauldron the other time didn’t you?”
“Ugh… Please forget about that… That was so embarrassing…”
I giggled, “Fufu~ I assume you need something from me?”
“I… I’m afraid that I might screw up again and get in trouble with professor Lisa… So I was wondering if you could help me with my potion?”
I turned to look at Lisa who seemed to be busy watching one of the boys stirring his cauldron as though she was considering whether she should smack him or not.
I picked up my potions and set them aside, “Sure, let’s go to your station then.”
We went back to where her cauldron was and I stood beside her as she took her place in front of it.
It seems like she had already grinded up the Milgras herbs and the binding agents she needed were also in their own crucibles ready to be added to her cauldron once she starts boiling it.
“I’m not too sure how much mana I need to use for the potion… Could you help me–“
Right then, a sudden explosion rocked through the room and I instinctively dove towards Yisra to push her down for cover.
I waited to see if anything else happened but when nothing else happened, I pushed myself up to see what the source of the explosion was.
It seems like the boy that Lisa was watching had put in too much mana into his cauldron which caused it to explode.
The good thing was that the explosion wasn’t a big one so no one was hurt.
The only one who was ‘hurt’ was the boy who got so surprised by the cauldron exploding that he fell onto the floor on his haunches, only for Lisa to smack him on the head with a rolled up book.
“This was the most basic potion you needed to craft last year. Have you already forgotten everything about alchemy?” Lisa reprimanded him.
I grimaced before looking back down, finding Yisra looking up at me with wide eyes.
“Are you ok?” I asked the girl.
That seemed to shake her out of her stupor.
“Ye… Yes!!” She squeaked.
“Sorry for pushing you down.”
“N… No! You were protecting me, right? Thank you!”
I chuckled and got up to pull her to her feet, bringing her back to her workstation.
I gestured at the boy that was being chewed out by Lisa, “Alright… I guess you already know what happens if you put too much mana into your cauldron so let’s avoid that from happening. Go ahead and prepare all the ingredients first.”
She nodded and started to put the ingredients into her cauldron before starting the fire that would boil the water.
I stood beside her as we waited for the water to bubble, which would mean Yisra would need to start infusing her concoction with mana.
We didn’t have to wait long before that happened and Yisra raised her hand quickly to start infusing her mana in the cauldron.
I watched the water intently to see signs of it changing colours. I realised that she was either doing it slowly deliberately because she wanted to be safe or because this was the fastest she could go.
Eventually, the water started to turn red and she quickly brought her hand away from the cauldron to cut off her mana supply.
I shook my head, “Too soon, Yisra. You need more mana.”
She raised her hand again and resumed the mana infusion, causing the water to turn an even deeper shade of red.
“That’s enough,” I called out, prompting her to cut off the supply of her mana.
“Did… Did I do it?” She asked.
Before I could answer, someone else answered for her instead.
“It certainly is done, but to think you still need someone to point it out for you to do so. That’s disappointing.”
We turned to see Lisa standing behind us with her arms crossed in front of her chest, a disapproving look on her face.
“I’m… I’m sorry, professor Lisa… I haven’t been practising during the holidays…” Yisra apologised quickly.
She nodded, “At least you’re honest. Now what do I do with you, student Aster? Did you think that you are good enough to take my place already? Is that why you are here teaching someone else instead of letting them come to me instead?”
Eh? What are you saying, Lisa?
I shook my head, “That’s… That’s not the case at all, professor Lisa.”
“Hmph… Seems like you need more supplementary lessons then. Stay back after class,” She ordered before walking away.
Ah… She was just looking for an excuse to get me to stay behind…
No, no, you don’t need to look guilty, Yisra. In fact, Lisa should be thanking you for giving her this excuse.
Now let’s just finish up here and I’ll see what Lisa wants with me… Which I am expecting would just be another makeout or sex session anyway…
