Chapter 2067: A Lively Place
Chapter 2067: A Lively Place
Some kilometers away from where Grey’s group were located, in a large forest with towering trees, a large number of people could be seen chattering, most of them were in groups of tens and fives, and there were tents sent up around the region.
“When do you think it will be ready?” A young man dressed in purple robes asked the older man standing beside him while licking his lips.
The old man, who also wore purple robes but a more grander attire, looked at the young man in disdain, “What does that have to do with you? The emissary has already been contacted and he should be on his way here. Don’t tell you have designs for something the emissary is personally coming to collect?”
“You misunderstand me, Faction Leader, I’m just curious about it. I’ve only read about this thing in old books, I never thought I’d have the opportunity to see one in my lifetime.” The young man quickly explained, giving out a fawning smile. The young man was only a Second stage Sovereign, while the old man was a mighty Eighth stage Sovereign. He might not be the strongest individual present, but his strength was no joke. Besides, he was also the leader of the young man’s Faction.
Other than mercenaries, there were a few Families and Factions that surrendered to the Gnomes, willingly working for them. This Faction was one of them. Before the invasion, they were a small Faction that dared not compete with the larger ones. Even their Faction Leader was only a Seventh stage Sovereign at the time. The place where their Faction resided was unfortunately one of the few places that a weak link between the Gnome World and the Human World connected, so when they Gnomes appeared with a Peak Sovereign, the Faction Leader who had been looking for opportunities quickly lashed onto them with no shame.
His Faction members were also quickly convinced to side with them. He was given a large number of resources, and in a short few years, he broke through to the Eighth stage of the Sovereign Plane. This was a cultivation stage he had thought would take him a few more hundreds of years before he could achieve. After gaining such benefits, he fully supported the Gnomes and even managed to help them take down a Faction with two Peak Sovereigns.
The Faction was a Faction he had been at odds with for hundreds of years, but given how weak he was, he was forced to bow to them. Now that he had new masters who were in need of top experts to turn into puppets, he suggested that Faction to the Gnomes. He even set up a meeting with the Faction Leader and Grand Elder, although it was hard, he was able to bring them out of their Faction to be killed by the Gnomes.
“Don’t think about it and don’t ask any questions. You might lose your life to stupid questions like these if you’re not careful.” The Faction Leader warned.
“I’ll take your teachings to heart, Faction Leader.” The young man quickly bowed.
A middle-aged man by the side laughed to ease the tension, “Faction Leader, you know how kids are, they tend to ask foolish questions.”
The Faction Leader looked at the middle-aged man, he asked, “Are the resources ready? You know we have to use this opportunity to hand over the resources to the emissary instead of waiting for the scheduled date.”
“Yes, Faction Leader. We were just able to get the needed amount.” The middle-aged man replied, passing over a storage ring to the old man.
The Faction Leader took the ring and examined its content, nodding in satisfaction, he kept it.
He was about to continue speaking when he suddenly sensed something and raised a brow, he looked at the sky with a skeptical look, “Huh?”
Above the trees, a figure could be seen standing quietly, staring down at them.
The middle-aged man’s gaze followed the Faction Leader upwards, and when he saw the figure floating in the sky, he was a little taken aback. He did not know when that figure appeared there.
“Is that the emissary?” The middle-aged man asked curiously.
The only person they were expecting was the emissary, so seeing someone he did not sense, it was only right for him to assume such.
The Faction Leader, however, shook his head with a serious look.
Realizing something was wrong, the middle-aged man’s expression turned serious too. An individual he could not sense should definitely be at least an Eighth stage Sovereign, but seeing the reaction of his Faction Leader, he felt there was a chance that this person might be stronger.
‘Could that be a Ninth stage Sovereign? Or even a Peak Sovereign?’
The thought of a Peak Sovereign appearing scared him witless. However, he calmed down when he took a glance at the small figure of the Gnome sitting quietly and also watching the sky. This Gnome was a Ninth stage Sovereign, not just that, but he also had a Peak Sovereign puppet with him.
‘Hmph! So what if he’s a Peak Sovereign? He’ll still end up as one of their puppets.’ He thought in contempt. He did not even think about the fact that he was speaking about a fellow human like himself.
This group were not the only ones who had their eyes locked to the sky. With one person taking the first look, every single one of the almost five hundred individuals stared at the figure calmly floating in the sky.
In the sky, Grey stood quietly with both hands behind his back. He was currently putting on a mask to hide his appearance. The reason for this was simple, he knew just how popular he was with the Gnomes, so he did not want to give away his strongest trump card. He wanted to kill this Ninth stage Sovereign from the very first clash to establish dominance, and the best way to do that was by cutting off the Gnome’s connection with his puppet and killing him when he’s incapacitated.
“It sure is lively here.”
