Beastmaster of the Ages

Chapter 2311 - The Cat is Invincible

Chapter 2311 – The Cat is Invincible

Lin Jianxing couldn’t wait to go for the kill. He wasn’t sure whether it was the walnut, but he couldn’t control his urges. It was like his mind was filled with nothing but a madness that drove him to uncontrolled recklessness. “Kill! Kill! Lacerate him with countless blades!” he roared. He turned back and saw that the ebons were just as raving mad. “Lin Feng, I want to skewer you on my sword and take it back to the Infinitum Swordsea for your grandparents and wives to see!”

Lin Jianxing smiled in an evil manner and entered the fog. He was practically invisible within it now that he had stopped giving off a green light. It was like the light had been retracted into his mind instead. The walnut floated in the middle of the astral organ that took the place of his brain. As it spun, the ‘galaxy’ that the organ represented turned green. The greener it was, the more savage the expression on Lin Jianxing’s face grew. He had turned from a silent, refined young man into a wild beast.

“Without those giant warbeasts, it’ll be easier for us to lay low. You guys should hide yourselves. Once that cat passes by, the four of you can use your orders to suppress it and attack it with your cosmic artifacts. Focus on the cat. I’ll deal the finishing blow with the superfiend—we must make sure it’s killed in an instant!”

That tactic would no doubt work on an obvious target like Tianming and the rest. Meow Meow was too fast for them, but it was still possible for it to run across the place they lay in ambush. Even so, as fast as Meow Meow was, they would still be spotted the moment they appeared, so having all of their attacks land wouldn’t be easy. It would still require luck and time.

“Quick, hide!” Qi Xuanzi said. The green glow had also permeated his brain, twisting his expression. He had always been an easygoing guy, yet his fingers were shaking and his brows were furrowed. It seemed that he himself hadn’t even noticed the change in his demeanor. Especially now, when no definite rules had been announced yet, adding another layer of fear and uncertainty to their situation.

“They’re coming!” Qi Xuanzi said in a hushed voice, seeing a green light in the distance approach. He and the other ebons waited, their hearts pounding. The superfiend was laying flat on the ground and had turned entirely white, seemingly in a hibernating state. Its presence had completely vanished. Most nova wildbeasts also had ways to camouflage themselves to catch prey off guard. The five ebons continued staring at the green light, but it swerved away before it was close enough, shooting past them by tens of thousands of meters.

“Dammit!” It was too far away for their attacks to reach it. Having to wait again, the ebons’ rage boiled more and more. They met the gaze of Lin Jianxing, who was still pursuing the cat, and glared at him to express their dissatisfaction. Lin Jianxing glared back! He was the one that was chasing the goose into the cage, but the goose was far too agile and powerful, so the best he could do was bait it in. Had he been powerful enough to lead the goose where he wanted it to go, he wouldn’t have needed to bother leading it into a trap in the first place, and could just kill it.

“One more time!” Qi Xuanzi was so angry that he felt like he was about to vomit all his organs out. He didn’t understand why he felt so mad! His most precious warbeast, the superfiend, was still alive, and he had been wanting to replace the eyebeast and myriadhead hydra long ago, yet even the slightest thought of Tianming caused him to seethe with rage. His black eyes seemed even more sinister without any white parts on them at all. Even the soul eyes on his palms wildly spun from the anger.

“What a bunch of dumbasses.” Tianming found them rather laughable. If the goose analogy was to be more accurately employed, the goose had eyes in all directions and ears everywhere on the battlefield that could pick up on the location of the ebons even though they had stopped glowing green. It could even hear what they had said.

Tianming intentionally wanted to drive them mad, choosing a path that brought him near them before turning away, but only enough that it looked like he hadn’t discovered their location. As for Lin Jianxing, who was on their tail, Tianming had been unhappy about him for a long time and was just waiting for a chance.

“Brother Yi, are you recovered yet? My sword thirsts,” Tianming said, not afraid of Lin Jianxing in the slightest. He was waiting until Yi Zhuojun was ready to hold back Qi Xuanzi for him, as he couldn’t be certain of his chances as long as the superfiend was around. The other four ebons also had some fight left in them.

“Almost done. Since you can last a bit longer, I want to recover just a bit more,” Yi Zhuojun said.

Lin Linglin tightly held Meow Meow’s fur, turning to look between Tianming and the devilish Lin Jianxing. Her mind was a complete mess of confusion. Why does such an upstanding, just man like Brother Jianxing look like a sinister, traitorous demon, while Lin Feng, the son of the sinner, Lin Mu, is so hard to hate?

Meow Meow ran faster and faster. While it didn’t have a huge role to play, it knew where the opponents were at all times and easily avoided them with its speed. Wherever it went, lightning was left in its wake, making it hard to determine its precise location in the field of bolts. “I’m invincible! I’m so fast that nobody can catch me!”

The entire room was soon filled with lightning. Behind Meow Meow, Lin Jianxing was expending so much effort in the chase that he was turning pale. One had to be faster than a goose to chase it down, but he couldn’t even manage that.

“If this goes on, they won’t run into the trap by the time Yi Zhuojun recovers!” Even in his impatient state, he was able to pick up on that problem, yet there was nothing he could do about it.

“How’s he able to swerve away from the location of Qi Xuanzi all the time?” Suddenly, he recalled that Tianming was seemingly able to monitor them the entire time they had been in the Oldgod Domain. That was how he had found the green skeletons! However, there was no way Lin Jianxing would be able to figure out how that had been achieved. The Myriadworld Immortabeast’s abilities were far too esoteric. Putting aside broodmothers with child spawn, not even the warbeasts of the ebons could communicate with their masters to that extent.

At that thought, Lin Jianxing felt a chill in his mind. Wait, why am I so reckless? I don’t seem able to think straight at all! That realization felt like a splash of cold water that completely awakened him. He looked up and saw that Meow Meow was heading straight toward Qi Xuanzi and the rest, like a tiger leaping toward its prey, but it was moving even faster than before! It had been hiding its true speed the entire time!

Meow Meow was completely unlike the last time it had run into Lin Jianxing in the Oldgod Domain. When it started accelerating, it was farther away from Qi Xuanzi than from Lin Jianxing, yet it seemed capable of shaking Lin Jianxing off in almost an instant to charge back toward Qi Xuanzi!

Wait, I was the one being led away this entire time!
