Chapter 188: Only Know a Little Bit

“You… Are you saying that my Bull Potion… Grandma Medi looked at Qian Jin dully as she said, “It’s getting close to a mystic potion?”

“Eh, a little.” Qian Jin shrugged his shoulder as he continued, “In terms of pharmaceuticals, there are potions that could recover a mage’s magic power. It’s like filling an empty pond with water again. To achieve something that is possible, that’s the goal of our pharmaceuticals. However, the Mystic Pharmaceuticals is the subject for madmen; their goal is to achieve something that is not possible. Using the same example, their goal is to make the pond that is fully filled with water to contain more water…”

“It’s impossible to contain more…” Grandma Medi repeatedly shook her hand.

“That why I said that Mystic Pharmaceuticals is only the subject for madmen. Their goal is to realize something that couldn’t be realized.” Qian Jin shrugged his shoulders again.

“You…” Grandma Medi’s eyes got even bigger as he stared at Qian Jin and asked, “You… Could it be that you know Mystic Pharmaceuticals?”

Qian Jin quickly shook his head; he didn’t want her to say that. “Although Endless World was different from the world that I’m living in, if this line got into Endless World and Eulalia heard it, she would probably torture me to death.” he thought.

“I don’t even dare to say that I know Mystic Pharmaceuticals, how dare you say that? Great! Let me learn Mystic Pharmaceuticals from your body!” Qian Jin could almost imagine what Eulalia would say.

Qian Jin raised his hands and swiped away the cold sweat on his forehead and tried to throw away the scene that he was imagining in his head. It would definitely be a tragedy if it actually happened.

“So. you really know Pharmaceuticals?” Grandma Medi still couldn’t believe it; Qian Jin was way too young! If someone became a pharmacist trainee, he or she would be talented already! But what Qian Jin was talking and explaining about was far beyond the level of a pharmacist trainee; it was at the level of a pharmacist.

Qian Jin scratched his head, and some of the rain in his hair fell out. “Saying that I know it is too much. I only know a little bit.”

“Only know a little bit?” Grandma Medi’s eyes were filled with a strange emotion. “Making that prediction from just smelling the air? Only know a little bit? Then what kind of level am I on?” She thought.

“Eh, I learned a little, so I couldn’t say that I know it.” Qian Jin thought about. He could only say that he only learned a little in front of Adams. Knows it? Compared with Adams who self-claimed to be a Pharmacy Grandmaster, Qian Jin felt like he could only say that he was on the entry level since he only knew how to make most of the level 7 medicines.

Grandma Medi’s eyes rolled around as she carefully observed Qian Jin with that strange emotion. “Who is your pharmaceutical master?”

“Adams.”

“I never heard of him.” Grandma Medi raised her eyebrows as she murmured, “I never heard of this name in Zence Empire. Could he be a demon or a barbarian?”

“Not a barbarian nor a demon.” Qian Jin quickly waved his hands as he explained, “He lives in a little village, that’s why no one heard of him.”

“Oh, I see,” Grandma Medi said. However, her expression told Qian Jin that she didn’t believe it. No pharmacist in this world was able to become a master by self-learning. “His master probably used a fake name and didn’t want to expose his real identity. Whatever, I left the Pharmacist Union several years ago out of anger and also hid my identity in this place…” she thought.

“Eh…” Qian Jin pointed at the washroom that was quite far away and said, “Grandma Medi, should we get some medicine for them to stop the laxation?”

“I couldn’t.” Grandma Medi opened her palms and said, “Although Bull Potion turned to a laxative, it is a level 5 potion, after all, right?”

Qian Jin nodded. This strong laxative that was created from a failed experiment wasn’t just any level 5 “potion”, it was a mid-top tier level 5 “potion” and very close to a level 6 “potion”. If Grandma Medi had never made a top-tier level 5 medicine before, then she had just achieved her personal best! The only thing was that this personal record wasn’t that glorious.

“Then you should know that there is almost no pharmacist that knows how to make every single level 5 medicine.” Grandma Medi said with a helpless tone, “This subject, if you become a pharmacist, most people would choose to select one path and continue forward with that, unless you have extraordinary talent. Me, for example, I focus on healing potions and also knows a little about supplementary potions like Bull Potions as well.”

Qian Jin quietly listened. After learning Pharmaceuticals for two years, he actually didn’t know much about this industry. But, from what he heard from his master Adams, it seemed like it was quite different from what Grandma Medi was talking about.

“A real pharmacist would know how to make every potion! Only learning one stream? Then don’t think about making a god-tier potion in your lifetime!”

Adams’ roars sounded in Qian Jin’s brain again. That was Adams’ theory, and that was the education he was getting for the past two years! An education that covered every single branch of Pharmaceuticals.

“Although healing a bad stomach is technically categorized under what I study… but…” Grandma Medi laughed bitterly. Why could a normal pharmacist study laxatives and its cures to a degree where they reach level 5 medicine?

“I can probably make a medicine that could heal a bad stomach, but…” Grandma Medi said after she thought for a while, “I could only make level 2 medicines at best. Also, that medicine isn’t meant for this situation. Although it could cure the symptom, if the root cause isn’t cured, it won’t be very effective.”

Hayen Brianna looked at the washroom that was far. Pity appeared in her eyes that were behind the metal mask as she asked, “So, they just have to stay there and take care of the business for the whole day?”

Embarrassment appeared on Grandma Medi’s wrinkly face again as she said, “From the looks of it, I could only probably make some level 3 potions to help them recover and provide them with some energy. When their bodies are soft and weak tomorrow, they could spend a few days to drink the potions to recover.”

“Uh…” Qian Jin scratched his head and said, “The only thing is that they probably couldn’t last till this time tomorrow… What you gave them was the most powerful potion in the level 5 medicine rank. I’m sure you are aware of its effect… Even if a Demon Warrior used his or her warrior power to resist the effect of the potion, he or she would become completely useless tomorrow and can do nothing except lie on the bed. These four would definitely die from it.”

“Then I will start making some healing potions!” Grandma Medi bit her yellow teeth and said, “This is the only way to help them to last until tomorrow.”

Qian Jin felt a little pity for the bandits as well; it looked they were used as test subjects by Grandma Medi multiple times.

“Cough…” Qian Jin coughed again and said, “How about let me give it a try?”

“You know how to treat it?” Grandma Medi looked at Qian Jin as if she was seeing a undead. There was a phrase in the pharmaceuticals that everyone agreed: “It’s a lot harder to make an antidote than making a poison!” Although this laxative wasn’t really a poison, it required an antidote to cure it! Since no one really studied laxatives, it was very hard for someone to provide a level 5 antidote.

“I see that you have a Thousand-Petal Garlic and a Five-Colored Gecko.” Qian Jin walked towards Grandma Medi’s pharmacy. The howling and crying of the four bandits in the washroom sounded in his ears, and he also recalled his tragic experience when facing Eulalia the Mystic Pharmacist.

“Thousand-Petal Garlic? And Five-Color Gecko?” Grandma Medi squinted her eyes. “Are these ingredients used to cure rheumatism and bone-related diseases? I never heard that they are effective in terms of curing a bad stomach,” she thought.

Qian Jin found a small pot in the pharmacy, and put a few ingredients that didn’t seem to work together into the pot and started to stir with a glass stick carefully.

Grandma Medi was shocked right away by Qian Jin’s techniques! “Leaving out the question of whether he knows the theories of pharmaceuticals, his smooth and experienced technique of potion creation along is shocking! Many pharmacists and Pharmacy Masters don’t have this level of mechanical techniques!

“Add 3 grams of Grey Rock…”

A cloud of white vapor rushed out of the pot as the Gray Stone was added. Qian Jin carefully stirred the potion in the pot. Although Mystic Potions might result in explosions eight out of ten times when it failed, it didn’t mean that normal potion wouldn’t explode. The potion that he was making wasn’t technically a normal potion nor a mystic potion, but it did have a low chance of explosion.

Pharmacist and Mystic Pharmacist both had the word pharmacist in their names, but they viewed each other as enemies. They could never communicate with each other proactively. People like Qian Jin who studied both subjects were very rare, and he sometimes couldn’t figure out which theory from which subject he was using; as long as it worked, he had no reasons not to.

The only thing was that he would be punished by both of his masters in the endless world, but he didn’t need to worry about it in the ruins.

“Add 6 grams of Eggshells…”

Qian Jin threw the eggshells into the pot as both of his legs pushed against the ground and thrust his body away. A layer of dust was sent into the air as his level 9 Demon Fighter strength got him out of the pharmacy instantly. The potion in the iron pot started to bubble violently as if it was going to erupt like a volcano.

A light flashed through Hayen Brianna’s eyes as she held Grandma Medi into her arms and left a dash of red light in the air. When Qian Jin’s feet landed on the ground outside of the pharmacy, she already appeared beside him with Grandma Medi in her arms.

“Bloodline Warrior!” Qian Jin looked at the woman who was still wearing the iron mask beside him. He first thought she was only a powerful female warrior, but he had never thought that her strength wasn’t any weaker compared to Nila who was a Two Stars soldier at the Dark Group after activating her bloodline! Qian Jin even felt like… she was a bit more powerful than Nila.

“Next time, please notify me,” Hayen Brianna said as she patted her chest. She looked at the iron pot that was bubbling and shaking from left and right on the stove and asked, “Is it really rare for potions to explode in the process of making?”

“Rare doesn’t mean that it is impossible.” Qian Jin shrugged his shoulders as he answered. “When I make potions, the chance of it exploding is about thirty times greater than other pharmacists.”

Grandma Medi stared at Qian Jin and asked, “You are a Mystic Pharmacist, right?”

Qian Jin shook his head and answered, “I’m really just a pharmacist.”

Grandma Medi light nodded. “So it’s true! A pharmacist at such a young age! He said he only knows a little, but now he exposed himself. A pharmacist for real! A Demon Fighter and a pharmacist in one? Where did he come from? Even bloodline warriors have to be jealous of this talent,” she thought.

“Brianna.” Grandma Medi looked at Hayen Brianna with a gentle smile and said, “You foresight is great. This boy does match up to you.”

The boiling and bubbling potion didn’t end up exploding after all. After the potion shook violently for a while, it quieted down.

Qian Jin stood by the door of the pharmacy and looked at the pot of potion. He had encountered this kind of situations before. There had been incidents where he thought everything was okay, but the cooled potion suddenly exploded when he walked up to it.

Qian Jin patiently waited for ten minutes, then walked into the pharmacy as he activates his Wind and Cloud Golden Body with his level 9 Demon Fighter warrior power. He took the pot of potion off of the stove and said to Brianna, “Take this to those poor guys. They would be cured after a few minutes after drinking this.”

Hayen Brianna took the pot and turned around as she thanked Qian Jin. She had to go and save those poor bandits who were in sitting on the toilets in pain.

Qian Jin walked into the pharmacy again and found another clean iron pot. He took out all the herbs and ingredients that he found in the rain. He chopped them down and ground them into fine powders. He then turned on the heat and added these ingredients individually into the pot at different times as he lightly stirred the mixture in the pot with a clean glass stick.

Grandma Medi had long lost her pride of a pharmacist. She sat quietly beside Qian Jin as if she was a student who was observing her masters’ techniques.

She watched Qian Jin’s stirring technique and thought, “It looks similar to Master Cromwell’s technique, but they are different.” The longer Grandma Med observed Qian Jin’s movement, the more she was shocked. “This! This stirring technique involved a lot of practical knowledge!

Stirring! It wasn’t just for the purpose of controlling the temperature; it was also meant to make all the ingredients break down evenly in the pot. But was completely distributing the ingredients in the pot possible?

No! Grandma Medi was sure that even Pharmacy Masters wouldn’t stir the potion evenly. However, Pharmacy Master’s stirring technique was better and could mix the ingredients more evenly, and the effect of these potions would be a lot better.

So potions and ingredients really couldn’t be mixed properly? Grandma Medi thought as she looked at Qian Jin’s wrist and watched him stir. The stirring technique that looked the same was quite different in terms of speed and power. “Maybe this technique could really mix everything evenly….”

After two hours, Qian Jin walked away with a pull pot of level 7 medicine and left Grandma Medi stunned while sitting on her chair.

“Level 7! Level 7 Potion!” Grandma Medi held her fists as she thought, “He made one of the top medicine that a pharmacist could make! Level 7 bone healing potion! I couldn’t be wrong! Although I couldn’t make it myself, I can identify it from just the smell!”

“Only know a little when you can make level 7 medicine?” Grandma Medi thought. She had the impulse of beating Qian Jin’s ass. “A guy that could make level 7 potions say that he only knows a little about pharmaceuticals? You can’t be this humble; you must be trying to show off! What is wrong with all the young people today? All trying to act low-key. Do you feel joy shocking people?”

“Only made level 7 potions after using this much ingredient.” Qian Jin thought as he walked fast with the pot of potion in his hands. “If Master Adams know about this, he would shout at me with all of his spit. He would say that I know nothing about pharmaceuticals; he would say that I need to spend more time and be more humble to actually pass the threshold of understanding pharmaceuticals.”

Qian Jin pushed open the door, and the three wounded personnel all looked at him. Duren Burg instantly frowned; he looked at the potion in the pot that looked strange and smelled strange as he said, “Hey man, what do you have there? Why does it smell that bad? You are going to let us drink that, right?”

Fanta Kunge also looked very uncomfortable as he moved his body backward a little.

Qian Jin looked down at the potion in the pot. The green potion was bubbling and had a nose-piercing smell. Although it looked very bad, Qian Jin remembered that his master looked down at the potions that tasted good; that was quite similar to the belief of Mystic Pharmacists.

“Medicines are used to save people, why does the taste matter? Only chefs need to worry about the taste! Pharmacists only need to worry about making the medicine that is actually effective.”

The screen where Adams lectured him appeared in Qian Jin’s head. He shook his head as he smiled bitterly. “Looks like I’m affected by what Adams told me and made this crap-looking potion. But this is the Frontier, and I don’t have the tools; it’s impressive that I made this already,” he thought.

“Hey, comrade-in-arms… I just smoked and don’t feel much pain anymore…” Duren Burg opened his eyes wide as he said to Qian Jin who was coming close to him, “Cech Flet is our guest, we should treat him…”

Duren Burg quickly shut his mouth and stared at Qian Jin; Qian Jin could tell that Duren Burg wasn’t going to compromise when he heard Duren Burg biting his teeth together forcefully.

Qian Jin put down the pot of potion and squeezed Duren Burg’s nose; his other hand put a spoonful of potion beside Duren Burg’s mouth and waited.

One minute… Two minutes… Three minutes… Duren Burg was holding his breath so much that his face turned all red. After all that, he couldn’t bear it anymore and opened his mouth to inhale fresh air; as soon as his mouth opened, the green nasty potion was stuffed into his mouth.

“Ouw…” Duren Burg’s red face quickly turned green. He lied back onto his bed and looked like he was at the verge of death again.

A light surprise and confusion appeared in Fanta Kunge’s eyes as he thought, “Does it taste that bad? No it shouldn’t ve! Duren Burg always liked joking around…”

Cech Flet’s stared at Duren Burg coldly as a sense of proudness flashed in his eyes.

Gulp… Gulp…

Two mouthfuls. After that, Fanta Kunge’s body softened and lied back down again. His yellow face turned green as well; the potion did taste that bad.

Cech Flet’s eyes still looked cold; his expression was calm and didn’t change at all when Qian Jin walked towards him with the potion.

The potion slowly flowed into Cech Flet’s mouth, and Duren Burg who was watching all this pointed out his thumb despite the pain and said, “Damn! I admire you! You can drink this nasty potion!” When he said that, the muscles around his eyes twitched as if he was the one who was drinking it.

Qian Jin nodded as well. “Cech Flet is the one who is more mature! He knows that he is the one injured the most and is going to drink more…” He thought.

Suddenly, Cech Flet shut his mouth and blocked the spoon outside of his pretty lips. He lightly said as he saw Qian Jin’s confused expression. “I drank one more sip than Burg, so I win.”

“What?” Qian Jin was stunned. Cech Flet got back onto his bed, and the muscles on his handsome face instantly started to twitch. Duren Burg couldn’t hold anymore and laughed out loud. “I thought you don’t have more expressions, but you were just trying to bare it and hold it back,” he said.

Cech Felt looked at Duren Burg and earnestly said, “It tastes really bad.”

“Same!” Duren Burg instantly felt like the gap between them shortened due to this nasty potion!

“Comrade-in-arm, come! I can take two more sips!” Duren Burg said with a “ferocious” expression on his face. People who didn’t listen to the full conversations would believe that he was going in a life or death duel with someone.
