Chapter 1314 Reaching the Edge of the Ancient City
Chapter 1314 Reaching the Edge of the Ancient City
Thump~
Remaining in the spot as she observed the giant wolf golem disappear into the fog, Mui dared not move a single muscle as she didn't want to accidentally alert the golem to her presence.
No matter if it had noticed her and the wolf demon beast beside her or not, she didn't want to test if that was the case. After all, if it hadn't decided to ignore them and had just missed them, it would end up with her being forced to use one of the talismans left behind by her master to get out of her current situation.
Of course, after seeing the golem, she also began thinking about a clear problem that she hadn't really thought about before… What if there were more wolf golems roaming around the ancient ruins than just the one, she had encountered?
Remembering the earlier battles that had taken place back when she had first arrived in the ancient city together with the demon beasts, Mui realized that there should have been more than one battle taking place at the same time back then, it was just that she had been too busy trying to hide that she didn't notice it back then.
Only now that she personally encountered the wolf golem, did she think back on what had happened in the past and realized that it wasn't just a single demon beast that they were trying to escape from. Instead, it was an unknown number of golems that roamed the ancient city.
As for why battles as of late had only been in the direction she had been moving in… That should be because the demon beasts heading in any other direction than the same one as her had already perished.
The reason for that should be rather simple, as those demon beasts would have been moving deeper into the ancient city instead of moving towards the way out of the city.
With that in mind, the golems they encountered might be stronger and more numerous compared to the ones located at the outer edges of the ancient city ruins, but-
Hm?
About to continue her train of thought regarding the golems that should be roaming around the ancient city ruins, Mui was suddenly forced out of her thoughts as she felt something gently poking her feet.
Turning to see what was poking her, Mui was surprised to see that it was the fluffy wolf demon beast that was still lying completely still on the ground beside her without moving, as it used a tiny bit of strength to poke one of her feet.
Clearly, it wanted to know if it was safe to start moving again and if the creature outside had disappeared. After all, it had clearly seen how Mui had been daring enough to move up and look out of the crack again. Meaning she would know if it was safe for them to start moving again, or if the creature was still around outside.
Seeing the nervousness and anticipation on the face of the fluffy wolf demon beast, Mui signaled that it was fine for it to start moving again as she glanced out of the small crack where the fog had already started to disperse following the disappearance of the giant wolf golem.
Rustle~
Not wasting a second after seeing Mui signal that it was fine to start moving again, the fluffy wolf wasted no time as it rushed up to the crack in the wall of the small house to look out and confirm the situation for itself… And only when it made sure that the fog outside was gone and there wasn't any scary creature waiting for them around the corner, did it relax and start celebrating that it had managed to survive an encounter with the strange creature roaming the ancient city.
Of course, different from Mui, who had already concluded that it wasn't some strange creature, but instead a golem and that there was more than one of them roaming the ancient city, the wolf demon beast had no idea about this and thought it was only a single powerful demon beast roaming around the ancient city.
For this reason, having survived an encounter and knowing what direction the other party was moving in, the wolf demon beast was confident it would be able to survive by going in the opposite direction.
How unfortunate…
Seeing through the rather simple thoughts of the fluffy wolf demon beast as it got up and got ready to leave the small house, Mui felt a bit regretful letting it go after having personally experienced just how fluffy and soft its fur was.
Roar~
However, there was nothing much she could do as it gave a quick goodbye and started moving back in the direction that the giant wolf golem had come from, deeper into the ancient city ruins.
After all, it was still a wild demon beast that had just formed a cooperative relationship with her due to the fact that fighting would only end up leading to them dying.
Although it was smarter than a normal animal due to its cultivation having reached the Nascent Soul Realm, it wasn't that much smarter. Not having been brought up by specialized beast tamers and having spent its entire life without encountering any humans or other sentient life forms.
In a sense, demon beasts confined to the mystic realm could be considered dumber than the ones outside of the mystic realm due to their limited contact with cultivators and the fact that most of them spent all of their life in a similar looking forest without much change from life to death.
The only difference would be when the demon beasts broke through to the Domain Lord Realm, as demon beasts at this realm would always develop a certain level of intelligence. Even more so for those who broke through to the Soul Ascension Realm.
"Guess I should also get going before another golems shows up…"
Watching as the fluffy wolf demon beast disappeared along the paved streets of the ancient city, Mui regretfully shook her head as she continued moving towards the direction that she thought to be the edge of the city.
Even if part of her wanted to keep the fluffy wolf demon beast by force, she was not strong enough to take it down without being noticed and would inevitably end up catching the attention of any nearby golems.
Whoosh~
So, with that in mind, Mui continued her journey towards what she believed to be the outer edges of the massive ancient city. Making sure to not move too fast, as that might result in her running into the different ancient golems roaming around the ancient city.
After all, now that she had become certain that there was more than just a single golem present roaming around the ancient city, she didn't dare to be as brazen as before, where she had essentially used all of her strength to rush forward whenever she sensed a battle taking place somewhere in the ancient city.
In hindsight, she had been rather lucky that she avoided accidentally running into an ancient golem back then.
At the very least, now that she was smarter, she would be able to prevent something like that from happening, as she steadily moved through the ancient city.
Another thing that greatly helped her was the fact that she also found out about the fog that surrounded the giant wolf golem. Allowing her to understand that if there was fog around, a golem was nearby. The thicker the fog was, the closer it was.
Using this to her advantage, Mui soon found herself reaching the very edge of the ancient city after three days of travel with the lush forests outside of the ancient city coming into view in the distance.
Of course, even though this was something to be happy about, Mui wasn't the slightest bit overjoyed upon seeing this. Instead, she was terrified.
The reason for this was simple, as she could see a thick fog covering everything a few dozen kilometers around the walls of the city. Making it clear that there should be some kind of golems all around the walls of the city. Making it impossible for her to pass through and leave the city without encountering any. 𝒻𝓻𝘦𝑒𝓌𝑒𝓫𝓷𝑜𝓋𝘦𝓵.𝓬𝘰𝓂
Not just that but given how thick the fog was around the city walls, Mui had a feeling that the golems there should be stronger than the ones that she had encountered so far.
Considering how they should have been placed there in the past to defend the ancient city that had now turned into a massive ruin beyond anything she had encountered before, Mui understood that it wouldn't be as simple to leave ancient city as she had first thought.
"…"
In the end, she could not help glancing down at a few of the talismans that her master had left for her. Knowing that they might be the only way for her to get out of her current situation.
