Chapter 230 - The Aurora Knights
The next day came like a flash. Everyone was getting ready, taking Elliot's potions to replenish some of their mana.
A bell sounded from the front door and Midnight got inside, scratching the back of his head and wasn't able to look at them in the eyes.
"I have a lot of problems," Midnight said with a chuckle. "And it seemed like I dragged everyone into one of those problems. I'm so sorry."
"That's fine," Lance smiled at him. "It wasn't that much of a problem. Who's not used to it? Your fill moon morphed form was even scarier than that."
Midnight nodded and smiled. "Galaxia told me there was an injured man. Who was it?"
"A police officer named Ryan," Lance answered. "He was attacked last night by someone. He should be awake by now."
The wooden stairs creaked and a rapid set of footsteps followed, Mary leaned over to them, panting. "He's awake."
–
"It was dark…" Ryan trailed off. "I was walking home from an investigation. It seemed like a normal day, just a normal night for any police officer."
"What were you investigating about?" Elliot asked. "Is it about the Twilight Bless?"
Ryan nodded, "Yes. But more specifically, the guild and organization that was after it."
"They're called the Blast of Darkness," Miranda added. "A dark guild that's as old as the any dark guild and as influencial as Galaxia's guild in the dark end of the kingdom. They're one of the biggest crime guilds to have ever appeared in Avancia."
"And they're after the power of the Twilight Bless," Ryan said. "There are a lot of missing information in the archives, but I think you all know what the Twilight Bless does."
"We have different versions, but they're similar to an extent," Elliot said. "That they would grant the winners of the Championship of the Greats the key to open the power through the Twilight Wings."
"Yes," Ryan nodded. "That's what's gonna happen. But we don't exactly know how it'll happen. Where the keys will be given, or how it'll be given. The ancients had left us with this giant puzzle to solve without the proper clues."
"After this, what'll happen?" Lance asked. "Is the power really that overwhelming? Or everything is just an exaggeration. We were told that the Twilight Bless holds the power to destroy all Realms."
"That is true," Ryan sighed. "But to harness it would be another matter. We couldn't destroy the Twilight Wings. Polschk reached out to me before and we tried. We even tried burying one in hopes to escape it but it ended up spawning back."
"This is such a headache," Ed groaned. "There's so much at stake right now. It's starting to become a burden on us, especially on Elliot."
"It's not a problem for me," Elliot said. "If I could, I'll take everyone's burden. What concerns me right now is the guild that wants this power. And… Ryan, what is it with the curse on your arm?"
Ryan gasped and realized that his arm had a giant mark in it. The mark formed a spiral cloud-like tattoo that had an eye in the middle.
"This prevents me from remembering the enemy. It detects signals in my brain and wouldn't let me associate anything with them," Ryan said. "I think whoever is behind this guild knows you."
"And they might knew that you're acquainted to us," Lance said. "They knew you were going to come for us, so they put that there."
"Braun," Elliot whispered. "It's Braun! H-He's the one we saw who wanted the Twilight Wings back in Alorde. He didn't want to let the police know it's him since he's still in the dungeons, scared that his sentence might get heavier."
"So, you mean he has connections outside?" Ryan asked. "I really can't remember who did this. This is so frustrating."
"Calm down, bud," Miranda said. "We'll get to the bottom of this. But for now, let's focus on the competition first. You can't do anything anymore once you lose."
The old man who was the owner of the inn knocked on the door. Everyone inside jolted in surprise after hearing him, thinking it was an enemy.
"Hello? Someone's in here to see you," the old man said and walked away.
It didn't take a few seconds before the door of the room slammed opened and Florencia walked inside. "Why is it so hot in this city?"
"Florencia, what are you doing?" Viper hurried beside her and tried to pull her back.
Florencia just shrugged and turned to Elliot, "Oh, hey Mr. Mentor. Missed me?"
Elliot quirked his brow up, "Florencia?"
"The one and only," the girl smiled. It was then that she realized that the heavy atmosphere inside the room didn't match her bright and flashy one. "Oh, my heavens. I'm so sorry."
"That's why I told you to stop," Viper said to her. "Come one out first. Everyone, we'll be back."
"Oh, no," Elliot ran towards them. "You're all here already. It'll be a waste if you leave. Let's go sit in the lobby. Excuse me, guys."
They walked downstairs and Elliot was surprised that the lobby was clean. He made sure to thank the old man, or whoever cleaned the mess.
"It was so messy here earlier," Christina said. "But we cleaned it up. I could now do a bit of blood magic."
Elliot turned to them, eyes widened in shock. "Y-You cleaned up? And blood magic?"
"We arrived here just after dawn," Viper scratched his neck. "We thought it would be better if we helped and clean up. After all, you're doing this for us."
Elliot smiled at his students. He was embarrassed but at the same time proud at them. Just by Viper calling Christina's problem their own means that they connected in another level.
Their bond is much stronger now, even when they haven't been with each other for that long.
"I saw the replay of the fight," Florencia said. "That was so amazing, Elliot. I have seen Elizabeth's actual spawn fight before. She can attack, defend, boost, and sustain. That's why she's very dangerous. Yet, you beat her spawn just like that."
"Her spawn is far different from her," Elliot chuckled. "But do you know why the Aurora Knights disbanded? I mean, they were going strong by becoming the top 1 guild. And they suddenly vanished."
Florencia and Christina looked at each other, urging the other to say something. Viper was seemed to be left out of this too, not knowing about what's going on.
"M-Mr. Elliot," Christina called out. "You don't know, don't you?"
Elliot shook his head, "What should I know about?"
"Half of Elizabeth's previous guild was massacred by a random attack."
