Chapter 241 - Stolen Points
They could only stare as the giant squid lift one of its tentacles and slammed it right on the water. Many teams were wiped out because of it, unable to escape the large wave the squid created. Their group was lucky enough to have stable balance through Aquarius's wabes.
"It's a Kraken," Midnight gasped. "Spawns like these must have required tremendous amount of mana."
"They prepared a lot this year," Aquarius chuckled. "As they should. I will gather everyone into pairs. With this, you can move together in the same wave with at least half your normal speed."
"No," Minos yelled. "You'll temporarily disable your senses, are you kidding?"
"Temporarily disable the senses?" Elliot turned to Aquarius. "What does he mean?"
"I'll be in a vegetative state for the duration of this. A small sacrifice for the greater good. Elliot, you won't have any pair, so you don't have to hold back."
Everyone was hesitant. But the gigantic spawn right in front of them poses a great threat. They also needed to defeat this to advance into the final round.
"What shall we do now?" Elliot asked. "Should we do this?"
Aquarius kneeled on one knee, and placed both his palms on the surface of the water. His eyes slowly turned marble blue, his lips slowly parting.
The waves on their feet started to gather. Midnight was paired with Minos, Ed was paired with Connor, and Ethan and George were paired. Elliot had his own little wave while Hope still stood on the water with his skill.
"Everyone," Midnight called out and raised his laced umbrella. He let go of the handle and the shaft that held the umbrella started to vanish. It then spread flatly above him, hovering over him to protect him from the sun. "Let's get this Kraken."
His teammates nodded and they all charged towards the giant spawn. It felt as though they were only ants compared to its size. But then, it was also their advantage.
The Kraken being gigantic meant that its movements would be very slow. It could barely lift a tentacle and shove it through the waters, making it easy for them to dodge the attack.
Their movements were being accurately followed by their stepping stone-like waves perfectly, just like Aquarius said. Elliot turned to the man who was still kneeling on his tall thin wave, focusing himself on supporting his teammates.
"Focus, Elliot!" Minos yelled. "Stop looking back and face your enemy that's right in front of you."
'Use a limiter,' Irus spoke.
Elliot paused, "A what?"Â
Instead of replying, Irus showed him a diagram of how to use the limiter he spoke of. Elliot was now wondering if he wasn't only connected to Irus through The Manual alone, but directly through their minds instead.
"O-Okay," Elliot whispered. He raised his sword and took a deep breathe, focusing his magic around his body as a limiter just like what Irus showed him. He was trying to minimize his speed by half, so he won't fall off Aquarius's wave. He did this by having his aura around him that would send a signal to his body that he's reaching his limit, he could then slow down and let the wave keep up with him.
"That is some complex magic right there," Minos chuckled. "I've only seen Stealth Knights do that. Didn't know you could do it too."
"I didn't even know I could do it," Elliot chuckled. "Shall we go?"
Midnight leaped off of the wave and suspended himself in the air. Even with his speed, he was able to let his cover follow him perfectly. He raised both his palms in front of him and conjured a sphere made of darkness.
"Abyssal Shock!" The sphere blasted itself from Midnight's palms and into the Kraken, making a large hole in one of its tentacles that almost cut it off. "It's not enough."
"Hasty Aspire!" Elliot yelled and ran through the waters with half his speed. Although he wasn't in his maximum, he wasn't as slow as he thought he would be. "I hope the wave would still follow me even when I'm not standing on it."
He leaped off the wave and landed on the tentacle Midnight damaged. He ran on through the tentacle, trailing to where the large hole was and slammed his sword on the thinnest part of flesh. The Kraken raised the tentacle which was the chance Elliot took to fully chop it off.
"Hasty Aspire!"
Leaping one more time and passing through the tentacle, the Kraken roared in pain. The large tentacle fell to the fake seas, oozing blood that attracted the steel sharks.
"This is where the party starts," Minos chickled. "Everyone, prepare. We'll have more than one big momma enemy starting from now on."
"Interesting," Midnight giggled and extended both his arms to his sides. The cover on top of him expanded by twice its size. Midnight started to stretched his muscles after feeling the large range of the shade over him. "Black Morph: Abyss."
His hands became claws and his legs became talons. His pitch black hair slowly lifted itself in the air and scales grew on the sides of his face. Midnight formed a fetal position for one second and extended his limps away from his body, the black wings that seemed to be made of darkness itself grew on his back as he did.
"He upgraded that skill recently," Minos said. "Now it's even more terrifying."
Minos raised his hammer, coiling it back to gain momentum. "I cannot shock the sharks since I'll shock everyone with it so, I'm going melee."
"You can have the wave," Midnight said. His voice had changed to a whisper-like tone with an ethereal echo coming after it. "I'll take the air."
"I'll take the air too," Connor said and conjured flames on his boots. The flames coiled around his metal boots and slowly lifted him from the waters. "Although I might not help much, but I can at least burn some."
Ed nodded and activated his arm with a portion of its power. He figured out that he needed to release the pressure coming from it. If he don't, then the arm would hurt and would make him feel like it was going to cut itself off.
The dark purple mist seeped through the thin gaps of the metal sleeve. Ed held his sword tightly, feeling the pain getting slowly released from the sleeve.
"Are you okay?" Connor asked from above. "You don't look so well."
"I'm fine," Ed sighed. "I just need a bit of time to adjust."
"Only five minutes left on the clock!" Irv boomed throughout the arena. "To add more thrill and excitement, the rankings will be turned off for the remaining time of the event."
"Now, let us see who will reign," Zia cheered. "Five minutes left!"
"Everyone!" Minos yelled. "We have five minutes to defeat this spawn. This is do or die, so we better–"
Out of nowhere, a swarm of swords made of paper passed through the Kraken. Azure Scorch Guild and the other teams' jaws fell as they saw the Kraken explode with the dark blue color right in front of their eyes.
"Silly Kraken," Daniel hovered above them all, stepping on another swarm of paper swords. "Oh, my.. I'm sorry."
