Chapter 280 - The Prince Of Spice Islands
What a small world it was for Elliot and Jameson. The former had expected to move out of the inn and move all his things.
He was also worried about how the Twilight Cocoon would react when he moves it, but it turns out, he didn't have to do anything.
Elliot scoffed and rolled his eyes in disappointment. "Wow."
"What?" Jameson tilted his head. "The old man here is my acquaintance. He's the father of my childhood friend."
"You mean the old caretaker of the inn?" Elliot asked, his jaw falling to the ground. Jameson looked around and nodded. "He had his hands full with us. Please tell him I'm sorry."
"I just arrived about two weeks ago and I moved here from my hotel," Jameson said. "That hotel gave me the creeps, so I asked him if I could move here. But don't worry, I'll tell him about what you said."
"Wait, let me guess…" Elliot trailed off and faked thought. "There was someone looking at you there?"
"More like spying," Jameson said and opened the door. Elliot smelled a familiar scent of burnt feathers. He immediately grabbed the man and pushed him back as he brandished his sword.
Inside the door was pitch darkness. Gaston stood inside with a wide grin on his face, "I think you want this."
He threw a small bag of sack from the doorway to which Elliot didn't touch. He let the bag soggily roll on the ground, grimacing after he saw something red was dripping from it.
"You must know what that is by now," Gaston grinned. "We did you a favor. We don't want to kill. But she wanted to annihilate everyone. Think of this as a peace offering."
"T-This is…" Elliot felt like his eyes were about to pop out of their sockets. He knew what was inside the bag. It was rounded enough for him to exactly know what it was.
"Goodbye, Elliot Max," Gaston grinned and let the darkness from the doorway warp towards him. The door closed with a bang and his aura and the burnt feather smell was gone in an instant. There was no trace of what happened just now except fot the bag that was now on the ground.
"What is this?" Jameson rushed to the bag that made Elliot grabbed him by the arm and pulled the man behind him.
"Don't touch it," Elliot said. "I-I'll call the police department. They will know what to do."
Jameson stood there as he watched the boy shakily accessed his Console. He was going to help Elliot but he opted not to interrupt him.
"Yes, hello Miranda? I have a new lead with the Fallen Angels case," Elliot said. "Could you come here right now? I'm at the inn. Thank you."
The call ended with Elliot hanging up. He gulped and walked around the bag, knocking on the door before he went inside. The lights were on and Ethan and George were at the lobby.
"It's late, Elliot," Ethan said. "Where were you?"
"Call everyone please," Elliot said. "These Fallen Angels are even more ruthless than we thought."
–
Miranda arrived and she grabbed the bag with her bare hands. She took a peek inside, her look says everything about what the content of the bag was.
"This is too gruesome and too fragile to be examined here, but I'll let everyone who wants to see it watch," Miranda said. "You know how powerful she was and they can do this to her. Our enemies aren't something that we should just stay chill around for."
She opened the bag and showed it to the Azure Scorch team. The instant they saw the head inside the bag, their guts twirled and their faces contorted in disgust.
"This is Seville," Miranda said. "The Fallen Angel who was able to breach the Championship."
Ryan walked from an alley and stood beside his colleague, "We will report this to our chief and no doubt she will report this to the judges. For brownie points."
"So, expect the Championship of the Greats to continue sooner than we expected," Miranda said. "The judges will rule out any potential terrorist attack now that the person responsible for the breach has died."
"Can't you just not report this to your head?" Elliot asked. Miranda was just going to show him the head and the man beside him had to puke his guts out. Jameson ran to the side of the inn where he hurled everything inside his stomach out.
"That was my dinner," Jameson said. "The dimsum I ate. All gone."
"Who is this?" Miranda's eyebrows met as she watched over the puking Jameson.
"He's someone I'm guarding," Elliot said. "He said he'll pay me handsomely if I do a good job, and I needed the pay for something."
Miranda could see through Elliot's lie well, but she didn't push it. This man's existence do not threaten anything, so it wasn't a harm for them to keep him.
"Alright, we will go now," Miranda said. "Everyone, be careful around doors. Elliot said that there's going to be an odor of burning feathers when this Gaston guy shows up. Be wary of that smell."
With a nod of understanding, the Azure Scorch team went inside with Jameson. He indeed knew the owner of the inn. Jameson hugged the man and the old man lent him a spare key for a room at the second floor.
"So, there are eleven rooms in here?" Elliot asked the old man. "How come you only allow ten people in?"
"There are twelve rooms in this inn, mister," the old man, who's name was Rob, replied. "I use one and the other one is for a special guest, such as Jameson Jimenez."
"So, he's special?" Elliot pouted. "Because he's a gem collector?"
His friends was listening to his conversation with Rob. They were all holding back their laughter while Elliot was talking to the old man. He sounded like a curios kid as he asked the man all sorts of questions he could ask.
Rob was silent for a moment. Elliot turned to the old man after he became silent. "What's wrong?"
"Mister Elliot, you're with him this whole time and you didn't know?" Rob asked.
Elliot's smile fell once Rob continued his words.
"He's the prince of the Western kingdom, Picante Islands.. Their kingdom holds the biggest export of spices all over the world."
